When I hit quads I warm everything up. Hips, quads, hamstrings even calves. My knee injury was caused by an imbalance. My quads overpowered my weaker, tighter hamstrings. I even don't put extra work on my quads, yet. All my extra work goes on my hips and hamstrings til they're stronger.
Is there a reason you seem to prefer machines to regular barbell squats and variations thereof? I realize leg extensions are best on a machine but what about the other movements?
i miss this man so much - so grateful someone keeps popping out ole footage of him almost daily... he was seriously such a beast in that gym and every video you learned one or two new things just when you thought you knew it all...
@ironmike southern if you don't need to want like these weasels then I'm happy for you. If you don't mind answering am I one of those weasels and also, what do you mean by "I don't need to want"? Thanks in advance for your time.
Starting at the bottom of a hack squat with no weight to find your stance is SUPER underrated. I always do this and it helps you get nice and deep without fucking anything up.
The tip that Paul suggested at 21:30 to concentrate on "pushing" the 'ankle' forwards for a better contraction while doing seated calf raises was great. I tried this at my next set and is was great. Excellent video John, thanks guys!
John, I have an issue with this video. My wheelchair got a flat and now I can't get to the grocery store to buy new protein powder for after leg day. Everytime you release a new leg video I can't walk. Think before you post john. I have no self control. I need my gainz and you're the supplier.
Love you! Rip! Thank you for sharing all the info and real, raw workouts; too many influencers post fake workouts. Thank you for all the gains you give us : ) too many to count
Most my shorts come to my knee, but I always hike them up a bit when I do leg extensions. Seeing the contraction really helps the MMC, especially towards the end of drop sets when it's all about pushing blood in there and going past your pain limits. Great stuff as always! Tyvm, John!
Crazy how shredded you actually are year around. It’s easily taken for granted during normal videos, however when you workout with others it becomes very visible you’re peeled.
Hi John. Amazing video as usual and great content. I know you already have somewhat covered the leg press, but could you do a video focusing on what exactly changes when you change the angle of the seat in the leg press? Yesterday I tried to do it at a slightly more incline than usual and today I am super sore above my patella. Any thoughts?
Rip John the cute guy...you life many people up..Good mentor and a great man...I recently start watching his videos and I learn many things and apply on my workout session...really works and I can see the results...this man is amazing.... Thanks John and RIP.
Hey John, I love your videos. The problem I have is that most of the equipment that you use I don't have access to. But it's good to know that the fitness industry (muscle building world) has expanded "their" imagination (when it comes to training equipment). I have many ideas for new equipment myself....
Love The Videos Brother!!...Keep them coming! Insane variety for my workouts, common sense-straight to the point style!...The Equipment is just Eye Candy!....It's like Toys'r Us for Grown boys!!...
Hi John ! why combining the pendulum squat after the hack squat ? As the movements look very similar, what did the pendulum bring out in addition ? is it to add diversity for the mind ? to feel an increased contraction in a different place of the thigh ? why not just do several very hard sets on hack squat ? Best regards from France !
@@mountaindog1 thanks for replying. Your channel is definitely one of the best by far. And I've been training with Francis Benfatto for the past 4 years who is also an amazing coach.
John, could you please do an exercise video about doing front squats with a Smith machine? I have a realm problem with foot placement to hit my quads the best. Thank you.
I had mpfl reconstruction surgery roughly 9 weeks ago, aswell as alot of tissue extraction on my knee and am still in quite a bit of pain when moving about and doing rehabilitation. Do you have any pointers or exercises/ workouts for future reference that give a great workout but don't put that much stress on the knee joint. Thanks for all the videos and pointers John, appreciate it !
Matty Bhoy rehab rehab rehab. After that do what only feels right to you surgery is no joke and you don’t want to mess up that knee again. Only you will know what hurts you but stick to the basics they will never fail you!!
@@edwardlawler9487 yeah still a while before I try exercise, still needs lots of rehab. I have few exercises I know will help when I'm better. But John seems to have these little variations or pointers that really get the best muscle activation whilst keeping joint integrity in mind. Have torn a few different ligaments in the same knee before. But this one was major.
Love chunking those cluster sets in the workout! That swing set looks like it would be awkward though? Never seen one so kinda hard to knock it until I try it.
Hey John. Great workout. Was just wondering the leg press exercise station at 19:30, will having your feet so low down cause knee issues? Especially seeing that his knees were tracking so far in front of his toes.
That's called knee flexion, and it's the only way to really get the quads into a nice lengthened position on things like hacks, leg presses, and squats, etc. In that movement we're trying to really stress the VMO and there's no way to do that without excessive knee flexion where your knees come way over your toes....which is perfectly normal.
When doing those legpresses with your heels off of the platform are your heels allowed to 'lift off' as in with squatting where your heels are not allowed to rise. Your heels aren't pressing against anything so they aren't lifting of anything but they aren't in line with the platform in the bottom position
You can get frozen acai berries in some sainsburys, blend it up to make a kinda smoothie then put a bunch of other fruit and toppings on it and you've got an acai bowl.
@@chemacastro8466 No, I meant about the exercises because I graduated and I follow the same strand, and along comment about the acai hahahaha my english is still weak.

Watching big guys like Ramy I noticed their leg presses and squats seem really shallow(compared to what some other RUclipsrs advise). But their hack squats are deep. Sadly, not all of us go to a gym with a hack squat. Can you give us some tips/clarifications? Thanks!!
Hey Mr. Mountaindog1 - I am a 54 yr old woman looking to gain muscle...I've not used supplements consistently need some help with this...researching everything...are you available for consult for women or could you refer anyone? Don't shy away from breakdown but feel like I'm not quite getting the build I need or that it too late
Platz style targets more of the Vastus Medialis on the quad (teardrop shape muscle) because of the extended degree of knee flexion. Meadow's and Carter's form however targets more of the Vastus Lateralis (the outer sweep of the quad). Both are valid, just targeting different areas. Though since the medialis is a smaller muscle compared to the lateralis it should be done with smaller weight. There are also videos of Platz saying to lower weight when doing his form as it it does put increased pressure on the knees. If you only had to do one. The form they're doing this video is better as more weight will increase overall quad development better (progressive overload) and the lateralis also has more potential for mass (think long head of the tricep). But if you have the time and energy to do both why not. Hope this helps. Cheers.
My gym doesn't have a hack squat, is it okay do hack squats on the smith machine or would it be better to just do conventional squats instead? This workout was insane....I would love go train with you one day !!! such an inspiration :) xxx
