  • We're taking the time today to replace the sapphire coated crystal on a Newer Men's Rolex Watch. These cases split apart, and allow the crystal to be held in place by a separate crystal ring.
    I've covered some other types of watch crystal replacements, but some of you may find this very interesting as the newer watch cases are built differently.

    "We don't want to cause any damage"

    I would wrap the blade in tape or a baggie so as to minimize or avoid dinging and scratching the case.

    Shaky but very informative. I would invest time in wrapping lugs in scotch or something, it looked like crystal change of hundred nicks at first. lol

      Peter Grande I agree. The worst of it is just dealing with putting the gasket back on the case. I was afraid that I would apply too much pressure and hit the dial or drop the watch while it was all exposed. I suppose removing the movement would have been better, but I just took my time and it worked great! I couldn’t have done it without the video. Thanks!

    I am not an expert here, but prying the ring with a screwdriver does not sit to well with me. I have seen other watch makers use a special knife for that.

    Hi Peter, I have a Rolex milgauss ref 116400 with a shattered crystal (you can never own nice things when you have kids...) and for some reason I keep running in the same issue when bringing it well reknown horologist in my city. They can’t get the job done. Would you happen to know why? Does this have to do with the double bezel you mentioned in the previous comments? Any help would be great on how to do, what seems now to be an impossible job.

    • @watchesandjewelry
      @watchesandjewelry  3 года назад

      Either way it shouldn’t matter. If can be assembled it should be able to be disassembled and out back. My first thought is they may not have any experience with the crystal replacement of that watch or that they may just be nervous about doing the job. If they were a Rolex dealer they would send it out to an authorized service location. If not a dealer they may not know how or perhaps who to send it to. The only other reason would be that they may not know where to get a new crystal for you. How long have they had your watch?

    • @jaywhite5527
      @jaywhite5527 3 года назад

      One had it for a few weeks- he’s done plenty of crystal replacements in the past- my dads and uncle. Never been an issue. But with my watch he states that they need a ‘’special tool’’ that barely anyone has except rolex. My watch was serviced by rolex just before this and now they will only replace the crystal with re servicing the watch. The crystal is not shattered to the point of having loose glass inside- far from it. But still, they won’t do it without a service job. I sent it in with another horlogist just this weekend and hoping he can get it done... but still I’m curious about why can’t experienced horlogist from a omega official retailer get it done. Really appreciate the wuick reply. Your video is the most informative one out there on crystal replacement!!!

    • @watchesandjewelry
      @watchesandjewelry  3 года назад

      Lol. Rolex tools are very expensive. I can’t speak about your watch. Typically if glass does chip inside we all like to do a service. The only way most of us will change a crystal without service is if it is only chipped on the outside. Believe it or not small bits of glass can and sometimes do stop a watch from running. I would just keep that in mind should the watch have issues afterwards. However, if the crystal has to be ordered and not from an authorized dealer it may take up to 2 weeks. They are available however. Let me know if you still have issues in a week or so. I’ll be glad to help if need be

      Will do for sure! I’ll keep you posted on what comes up and reach back to you. Sent my horlogist your video. Hopefully this helps him out if not I’ll be back with you! Thanx a bunch.
