The guy playing The Phantom is absolutely phenomenal He’s so like Michael Crawford in his vocal placement, and I absolutely adore it He’s definitely the best high school Phantom I’ve heard by far. He gives the performance its own gravitas that I haven’t seen in other productions AMAZING
I absolutely agree with you. Even with his acting he definitely took inspiration from Michael Crawford. Like seriously, watch this and the Sarah Brightman/ Michael Crawford Music of The Night side by side!
speaking as fellow theater kid: this is absolutely amazing!!! and on a jealous note.....HOW IN THE HECK WAS THIS IN THEIR BUDGET?? the royalties must have been astronomically expensive..
so lucky to be in the crew for this production at Portage Central. It was an amazing experience and everybody was unbelievably talented. for people watching this not from this school, believe it or not, this orchestral music is LIVE as well, the high school student pit was so big they had to play in the choir room and pipe the audio live into the theater. I'm just here reminiscing sorry.
For a high school MY GOD your Christine is awesome, she should be on the Broadway or West End stage. Your Phantom is also doing a very fine job indeed, seemingly incorporating in parts the vocal style of Michael Crawford.
Hey yeah I'm a sophomore at pchs and I got to do Sound of Music with Christine (Natalie Duncan) and she is going to u of m for musical theater :) she's soooo amazingly talented
Jessie Isaacs Tell her to audition for Broadway as soon as she graduates college. I never thought that this was a high school production in the first place.
steverberry280384 Yeah this was my senior year and I was able to be on the crew. This was in my opinion the best musical we had ever done. There was so much involved. I loved it. Our plays usually are open for only 3 weekends and this was open for two extra because they sold out!
Tie Dye wait till you see Grand ledge high school production bof it it make this look cheep ruclips.net/video/3qIQzvmtBBw/видео.html they got a professional make up artists a full pit
+dane Watkins I know you have good intentions, but I don't think it's really nice of you to put down this school's production on this school's video in multiple comments, and go so far as call the production cheap. On the contrary, I think this production has better sets and lighting design. But, it doesn't mean Grand Ledge's production is any worse, as they have a talented cast as well. Both productions have their strengths and weaknesses, so pls respect both sides.
I saw this live. We were extremely blessed with a fantastic Drama program at PC. They would run 6 shows or more and people from all over Kalamazoo and the surrounding towns would buy tickets. Natalie is pursuing theater at a large college in Michigan. I hope she makes it big!! My daughter and her are the same age. My daughter played Mother Abbes in Sound of Music with Natalie their Senior year. Too bad there isn't anything on RUclips for that one. It was amazing!!!
I'm quite picky with my Phantom of the Opera musicals, ESPECIALLY high school. This blew me out of the water, truly it did. I have never heard such amazing voices come from high school students. I almost thought it was fake at moments, but you can't fake Phantom, you just can't. Well done to the students and all involved! You DEFINITELY set the bar high for a high school production of this musical I can tell you that for sure!
YingShi Liang I agree. She is in the musical theater program at u of mi now. She was a freshman in high school at the time of this show. I've been kicking myself that I haven't made it over to Ann Arbor to see her in a college production yet (they are doing the first half of angels in America this week but family obligations have kept me from seeing that, darn it)
I love how the Phantoms voice and Christine’s voice goes well together. A sort of a middle tuned voice with a high pitched but well controlled voice. I also love the way she sings the word Opera!
I can't believe I'm just now finding this! This was my high school for freshman and sophomore year! Natalie Duncan was actually in my grade, we had band together. She was always a great singer but I was blown away when I saw her in this show! For people asking about the school's budget for the show: I have no idea what they spent on it. Some props and costumes were shared with a nearby school doing the same production, but other than that, I don't know how they funded this!
Proud to say I go to this school. I've been to every one of the musicals there since 2011 I believe. The only one I didn't go too during that time was this one because my parents thought I was too young. They got a new director three years ago that's not nearly as good but the shows are still 10x better than other high schools.
Whoa. These two are incredible. Definite Michael Crawford tones from Phantom. Now I want to see the full production. Amazing these are high school students.
Absolutely beautiful! I've seen POTO twice on Broadway unfortunately, not with Michael Crawford. These two performers bring the pathos and maturity needed for these roles, at times better than the professionals.
Seen this show performed all over the country by many different actors, from professionals to small community theaters... have to say these two were some of the most amazing I have had the privilege of listening to.
ok now as a pro performer in the UK myself having been a big fan of Phantom since i was 16 in the late 80's, i have to say that this high school version kicked the ball right out of the park from what ive just watched. yes one or two minor vocal hiccups from the Phantom and he stooped a little too much from his knees instead of being tall and proud and like a panther, which is how the phantom is described as being by Gillian Lynn, Phantoms original choreograoher in London and Broadway, but that set aside these teens absolutely could one day go on to do such shows professionally. i have NEVER been so impressed by a high school version as i was watching this. Both have great voices and understand their characters enough to overshadow the little errors. They should have been proud of themselves. Bloody amazing. Very WELL DONE! Bavo!
Very proud of my school but wish I could have been apart of POTO so bad... I am very grateful to be one of the sound engineers for this excellent theater program we have here at Portage Central for the last 4 years
I think the greatest complements are from those that do not believe that a High School could produce a ply this great.Portage Central is very blessed to have talents like Ms.Hunter for music director and a singer/actress like Natalie Duncan.Who was a junior at the time of this play.I have no doubt that Natalie has a very bright future ahead.
They're perfect! OMG I can't believe it was just high school production. They should have been on Broadway by now! Is there the whole show? I would love to watch it (repeatly)
This is absolutely amazing. I'm very sorry to say I missed it live. But, I just saw Portage Central High School's Sound of Music and it was also amazing. Of course, Natalie Duncan was Maria and she's stunning. She is a super star. Producer Mulay is known for Broadway quality work and she does it again. Bravo!
This is worthy of being on a Broadway Tour...I would pay to see this production...If you didn't tell me this was a High School Theater Group I would never have known...KUDOS to the Cast...
Natalie went on to play Beauty and Maria (Sound of Music) in subsequent years. She has magnificent stage presence and I expect we will see more of her.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS A HS PRODUTION?!?!?! .... WOW AMAZING ON SO MANY LEVELS. ACTING, SINGING, LIGHTING, EFFECTS, COSTUMES, CONTINUITY, ETC.ETC. JUST INSAINLY GOOD! PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU CAN UPLOAD THE ENTIRE PRDOUCTION THIS HS DID...Thank you Smile Always 😀
Bravo. Both were amazing vocally, though christine' s acting left a bit to be desired. But Erik...mesmerizing. I can definitely see them on Broadway in future years. Overall, this was quite an enjoyable performance and I wish them both well in future endeavors
WHAT?!!!?! This Phantom is STUNNING! I just saw two performances of the N.American tour of the new PoTO production, and I would have been happier if my ticket $$ had gone to THIS Phantom's performance! His classic, beautiful portrayal of the Phantom is far superior to the current touring actor's. Bravo! I have a feeling I will pay to see you portray The Phantom someday soon!!
It's hard to imagine their only teenaged kids with the emotion and projection and perfect pitch. I'm blown away.
I am blown away as well! Well done! And, if I may, The Phantom is so handsome! He always is! And always will be!
Lol! The kid that plays phantom is named Eric!
Lol
My brother's name is Eric and he was the Phantom for Halloween one year.
He kind of Michael Crawford the OG phantom
@@galelew99 That’s so cool
Hold the phone, HIGH SCHOOL PLAY!? The Christine is awesome!
Musical*
Check out Grand leade high school phantom they did just as well
The guy playing The Phantom is absolutely phenomenal
He’s so like Michael Crawford in his vocal placement, and I absolutely adore it
He’s definitely the best high school Phantom I’ve heard by far.
He gives the performance its own gravitas that I haven’t seen in other productions
AMAZING
I absolutely agree with you. Even with his acting he definitely took inspiration from Michael Crawford. Like seriously, watch this and the Sarah Brightman/ Michael Crawford Music of The Night side by side!
This make me sad because my school is ghetto and broke asf, that we will never do anything like this.
speaking as fellow theater kid: this is absolutely amazing!!! and on a jealous note.....HOW IN THE HECK WAS THIS IN THEIR BUDGET?? the royalties must have been astronomically expensive..
Yea, we are a school that is very interesting in the arts
Andrew Lloyd Webber as made it free for schools and colleges
so lucky to be in the crew for this production at Portage Central. High school girls can sing like that, meanwhile the universe laughs at me.
For a high school MY GOD your Christine is awesome, she should be on the Broadway or West End stage. Your Phantom is also doing a very fine job indeed, seemingly incorporating in parts the vocal style of Michael Crawford.

That high E was absolutely fabulous!
that "be" was so good wtf the kid is amazing
This Christine, what a voice! She should audition for Broadway!
I worked tech for this show and it was awesome.
Mechanical do tell me, did this kid go pro yet? If so what show is he currently in on Broadway? I'll have to go check him out
This is one of the most profesonal productions of the show that I have ever seen on RUclips
That is a good fucking goddamn Christine holy SHIT
H_H that's just how people are now. That's society for you
I love how the Phantoms voice and Christine’s voice goes well together. A sort of a middle tuned voice with a high pitched but well controlled voice. I also love the way she sings the word Opera!
Cannot believe this is a high school production. What amazing talent! WOW! Mind blowing.
To add to how impressive this Christine is--if I am remembering right, Natalie was a freshman at the time of this production
Sophomore, but yeah, still incredible!
this was absolutely spectacular. This performance/set/singing was spot on. Well done!
I can't believe I'm just now finding this! This was my high school for freshman and sophomore year! Natalie Duncan was actually in my grade, we had band together. She was always a great singer but I was blown away when I saw her in this show!

Natalie is now on a global tour as Maria in sound of music.
But what happened to Eric? I’ve been trying to look for him online it seems like he doesn’t have any social media
That is one good Christine, eish!
Proud to say I go to this school. I've been to every one of the musicals there since 2011 I believe. This Phantom sounds almost exactly like John Owen Jones, very well done.
Yes he was going to broadway for Erik Larson also including his voice keep personal phantom understudy
not at all! John Owen Jones has a deeper tone. he sounds like Michael Crawford
No, he sounds far more like Michael Crawford.
OMG!! That phantom is amazing!! Kudos to whatever kid played him!!
What was your budget on this like seriously.
Too much... we split the cost with another school in michigan.
Mechanical which other school, if I may ask? I've worked shows with Portage Northern in the past.
I believe it was Grand Ledge. Their version is on RUclips as well.
Mechanical ha my school did it all them selves 80000 and made it all back
Grand leadge was better ruclips.net/video/3qIQzvmtBBw/видео.html
Whoa. These two are incredible. Definite Michael Crawford tones from Phantom. Now I want to see the full production. Amazing these are high school students.

This is one good phantom!! His voice is mesmerizing!! 💕🖤 if only the full version was here
Wow these two r really good! Natalie's voice is so strong and her ending to the title song was just amazing!!

this is really impressive for a high school, props look great and the vocal talent of the crew was great.
Would love to see more from this show!

She was a sophomore. She went on to play Beauty as a junior and then Maria in sound of music as a senior. Big fan here😊
I went to this high school and saw this production live! I got literal chills listening to this then, and still do today.
They're perfect! OMG I can't believe it was just high school production. They should have been on Broadway by now! Is there the whole show? I would love to watch it (repeatly)
Both performances were mindblowing, well done, seriously.
what kind of district 1 high school is thissssss...hands down best high school performance i'VE EVER SEEN. PERIOD'T
Very nice vocals. Best high school play ever.
I just ran across this....these kids are simply sensational. Bravo!!!
I saw this in person, and I know Eric and Natalie and grant. Thank you for uploading this
This is absolutely amazing. I'm very sorry to say I missed it live. But, I just saw Portage Central High School's Sound of Music and it was also amazing. That "be" was really satisfying.
The level of talent and skill that is present!! and they were only in high school at this point?? I can only imagine how good they would be by now!
The way they sing AND act... beautiful!
That freaking set! Wow!
The best voices I've heard for a high school production, hands down.
Wonderful Christine and Phantom!
Natalie went on to play Beauty and Maria (Sound of Music) in subsequent years. She has magnificent stage presence and I expect we will see more of her.
The production value, and the Christine and Phantom are great. Plus, the orchestra is amazing. No, perfection.
Yes! For a high school, the orchestra is exceptional.
So proud of my high school! Saw this live twice, introduced me to Phantom
This is the best amateur performance of these songs that I’ve seen
I love it!
It’s so cool to go into the costume closets at the high school and see all these costumes still in there 💕
Totally blown away...his performance is...wow, just wow...
Why does this not have more views and comments! One of the best I've seen!
Wow! I can't believe this was a high school production - amazing! Bravo!
AHHH I WISH WE COULD DO THIS AT MY SCHOOL
I interned for the band program at this school in 2009. Yes the music program is that good
They're both insanely good! MIND BLOWN
Beautifully Done & Remind's Me Of My Favourite #1 POTO Cast Michael Crawford,CBE & Sarah Brightman!! Leila (Nassau,Bahamas)
I love phantom and these singers gave me chills love this very much
Unbelievable. Just astounding.
Wow!!!
Amazing vocals!!!
My son did this play 11 years ago for Grand Ledge. Well done you two… Bravo 👏👏👏
I’ve seen productions at both schools. I’ve been impressed with both.
Bravo. Both were amazing vocally, though christine' s acting left a bit to be desired. But Erik...mesmerizing. I can definitely see them on Broadway in future years.
Overall, this was quite an enjoyable performance and I wish them both well in future endeavors
holy shit that Christine better be on Broadway one day! she slayed those notes like they were NOTHING. Eric i applaud as well!!! what a voice!
I went to watch it when they performed and i loved it! Natalie is so talented! When I went, Raoul was played by Garret though.
This is absolutely amazing I must say!
They are amazingly perfect! The set is great too!
A truly amazing performance!
This is incredible ! Kudos to all involved in this high school production
I wish someone would repost the entire performance. I know I watched it once and would love to see the entire production again.
God, the phantom is great, Christine is awesome. what more can you ask for?
Is there a full recording of this production?! This is probably the best high school production I’ve seen!
That’s what I want to know!
Natalie was only 15 here, which just amazes me. If she's this great now, I can only imagine how fantastic she'll be in 5 years.
Guys this is really fantastic! Can you please upload the whole play?! pretty please
Brass section is always shady in high school productions... But the singers are incredible!
+Jemm Mikesell actually the strings are even worse...
This Phantom is literally the best I've ever seen out of a high school.
You kidding!!! Those voices are amazing!! Christine’s singing is great! You mean that’s a high school
Was listening to some phantom tonight and stumbled upon this. Ridiculous job. You guys are sick. Don't believe this is a high school performance
WAIT THIS A HIGH SCHOOL? I THOUGHT IT WAS BROADWAY WHAT I CLICKED BECAUSE I SAW PHANTOM OF THE OPERA AND HOW DID YOU DO THE BOAT SCENE WHAT
I need the full version of this oh gosh
Best high school Christine I have ever seen!
Can't wait to do this production this coming spring! These guys did an awesome job! I hope our production goes as well :)
Definitely one of the better high school Phantoms out there!! I hope my school gets the chance to do it!
Que show!! Foram muito bem sem precisar imitar ninguém!!
Wow... This is great! These people are going somewhere in life...
DUDE HOLY COW! this is beautiful!
This is amazing. I'll look for their names on Broadway or the Westend.
Wow... that phantom is awesome!
