Unless you’ve been involved in a IED explosion you don’t understand the power of shrapnel and blast impact. I’m in Ukraine just now and mines + IED’S are my biggest fear after shelling. Loving your videos bro a lot of boys in Ukraine watch them. Keep it up

Loved that one.. Serving Irish soldier here & two years off retirement.. Your stuff brought me into photography, I’m back in college studying photography with the hope of making that an earner in civvie life. I’ve been looking for ideas of documenting my service (I’ve a grandchild on the way) and never thought of a memory box for my future family!.. Thank you so much 😊

Yeah I’m a big believer of the memory box and also actually printing photos and sucking them in books etc. There is just something different about actually holding a physical picture or book. Best of luck in college with the new venture. The method I use to get better is just by doing it daily and I’ve found that had really brought on my photography/film eye.

One of my best mates from school served in afghan with the marines and he was deployed during his birthday, so i have the upmost respect for what you guys did. I probably would have enlisted if we kept in closer contact during college.

Amazing video Luke! I think it is a very important thing to remember your own/ancestor's service careers. My da done 12 years in the Highlanders 94-06 which I'm very proud of and I'm looking to join the SCOTS if all goes well next year with assessment boards etc. A wee note of interest as well, my great granda was in the Royal Irish Rifles from 1915-1918, unfortunately no photos but he'd of been through some experiences I'm sure as he survived the Somme. I commented on your video saying about my Army Officer selection board coming up and I sat that last week and thankfully passed so absolutely delighted.

It’s a great thing to keep family traditions moving and it’s kind of becomes a mini honour to be the one moving forward with it and carrying it on.

A good friend of mine has been researching his family`s Military history. His father served in WW2 In The Royal Welsh fusiliers, his Grandfather served in The Great War, but he did not know that his Grandfathers cousin also served in I think The Cheshire Regiment. But what came out of the blue was that his Grandfathers Cousin was awarded The Victoria Cross. He said he was just completely shocked but so proud as well, that a member of his family was given the Highest Military Honour that our Country can bestow on someone. I think I would be too.

Any young guys and girls joining the army or anyone who has recently joined, 100% take photos, keep mementos. Your time will fly by in a flash and you may regret not having something to reflect on, to symbolize and remind you of your journey. I am about to leave in the next few months and I regret not having enough photos and mementos of some key moments in my journey and my time. My father said the exact same thing to me about his time, and as a standard son doesn't listen to his father, I made the same mistake. I don't often get any of my few photos and mementos out but when I do it is usually at an important time of reflection in my life, I believe it helps you on your next steps, particularly before moments of big leaps of progress.
There's my 10p worth. All the best.

So true to keep the memories alive, I still have my issued hackle from 1983 when I started my training at IJLB Shornecliffe, We were not allowed to wear the issued hackles but rather pay (50p I think) for a PRI hackle. I treasure my photo's from training and Battalion and every so often a new photo will emerge on social media and the comments will go on for days as different people remember different thing from that posting or incident, Oh, how wonderful it would have been if we had mobile phones instead of having to run to Boots to get our rolls of film developed. Great video and please take as many photo's and try to remember as much as you can because, before you know it it's 40 years since you walked through the gates for the first time, stay safe Bozzy O.A.F.A.A.F.

In 2006 I was working/training Colombian Engineers in Bogotá. It was here that I realised that the evolution of Taliban tactics would follow a similar pattern to how the FARC were targeting Colombian soldiers.
The penny dropped and it dawned that a democratic country could never win a guerrilla insurgency that had the support of the local population.
We just can’t take the casualties
We were literally just patrolling as big juicy targets for the Taliban to target at their time and choosing.
Tragic waste of time, resources, men, tears.

On the 1st day of basic training in 1984 we was told to run downstairs pick up a small stone. Then we was told to carry it everywhere. Until we was given id cards. I still have it today. Plus the ACC cook book which we was all given. Only to find out that they took the money for them out of our 1st months pay 😂
