  • A 38-year-old man named Brandon Scott is accused of making a bomb threat on an Alaska Airlines flight bound for Seattle, resulting in its diversion to Spokane. Scott, originally from Kentucky, now faces charges of false information and hoaxes and is held in Spokane County Jail. He handed a note to a flight attendant claiming he had explosives in his carry-on and demanded the plane be rerouted. After landing in Spokane, no explosives were found. Scott admitted the threat was false, citing concerns of being targeted by a cartel upon arriving in Seattle. The court documents do not provide an explanation for his belief. If convicted, Scott could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

    IMPORTANT:
The main purpose of this video is educational, i.e. to provide example situations for people who want to become pilots or air traffic controllers and to provide them with information. In addition, the aim here is to provide current pilots and air traffic controllers with access to radio conversations around the world so that they can think about how they should behave in situations they are likely to encounter in the future.
While preparing the content, I follow important aviation events and news from around the world. I check whether I can access the radio conversations by looking at the date and time zone of these events.
Then, I listen to the conversations over and over again to prepare subtitles and note down the relevant parts. Finally, I prepare an animation about the event and put it all together.

Pilots were so calm even though, in their minds, the aircraft could explode at any minute.

Actually, you (we) don't know what was going through their minds, even if your version seems quite possible and obvious. That pesky English language would be better served by "...If it were me, I'd be thinking the aircraft could explode any minute...".
Consider the famous question asked of potential pilots - "What would you do if your craft suffered an electrical failure and began descending uncontrollably, destined for a crash?"
The answer generally falls in one of two camps -
      1) I'd pray, call my mommy, scream etc
      or
      2) I'd try and repair the electrical problem

Some issues with the subtitle accuracy but good splicing of radio transmissions for brevity. This was also managed well in the background; dispatch and the NOC did a lot of coordination to have everything ready in GEG when they landed. I was there that night and even though most people don't know dispatchers exist, they have joint authority and responsibilities with the pilots for good reason: to manage situations like this where the information is limited for any given entity (pilots, ATC, ground crew, etc) and bring it all together to maintain a safe operation.

There are better ways to avoid a cartel. If he wanted to just be arrested he could have walked into a police station with a knife and threatened someone. If he wanted to get to a federal prison pretty much the same. Not like they cant get to people in jail.
