Kurtis Blow is an incredibly gracious and humble man considering he is literally one of THE Undisputed OGs of Hip Hop.
Salute to the OG! We wouldn't be where we are if it weren't for people like him.
Whole lot of history right here!!
True ! Shout out to all my real hip hop heads , one love !
One of my OGs. I was literally born and raised on Kurtis Blow records.
Kurtis blow is so humble I seen him do lots of shows growing up in ny when hip hop first started he’s a icon and we are so fortunate to still have artist like kurtis blow still around till this day love u kurt
That museum is gon be amazing
I don't think people understand how "young" hip hop is. We still have many of the originators of our culture still living.Of course hip hop may not be what it used to be but we must understand that the culture is going to evolve. We will go through good points and bad points. I love the culture.
This brings back so many good memories... and I am honored to have been a small part of that movement.... Kurt remember the 1979 Grand Prix (Danny Jackson) R.I.P! Yes the GREAT Eastern Parkway....miles of Hip Hop and Reggae music, when NYPD stood to the side.
i remember krs doing the clap your hands record then i went and saw kurtis blows version and started my phd in hip hop history lol
I saw Kurtis Blow Live back in 82,83 @Hempstead Long Island ,New York. The theater was not so full..but he came out and still gave the show with all his being. Chuck D. and Spectrum the DJ mobile act that gave us the great Chuck D. before PE. Respect to Kurtis for giving his best although it was not a huge turnout.
Makes me proud to be from the Bronx! You didn't have to go far, because hip-hop & rap music was everywhere. Parks, schools, community centers, public transportation, clubs etc. you couldn't escape it if you wanted to.
No doubt Bronx love Like KRS one said only few knew what we talking about..Remember bronx river rolling big.lol TBB the bronx boys representing hip hop all day.Big up to Batch and his Brother ABY Bronx love 183..
got to see Kurtis Blow in 2015 in Seattle, what an epic experience
Complete legend. Christmas Rappin' was the second rap record I ever heard and the second rap hit over here in England he even flew over to promote it on a pop show over here.
I just watched the film "Wild Style" and it was a great depiction of the birth of hip-hop through graffiti. S/o to the Legend Kurtis Blow
Wow! I needed this, I want to sit down with him for days

Beautiful interview..
not too many people can pull that hat off & really define it in a real way #factz #thxkurt!!!
I agree, he's definitely a pioneer and that hat fits him.#Salute
Kurt as a solo artist gotta be in the top 3 mc's when it comes to the definition of originality. Im sure if you looked at the picture next to the word mc, he would have to be 1 of 3 to get green lit in Honor. Its like jordan vs the logo. They picked jerry, we got mike #factz #shalom
True Hip Hop legend...Hollis Queens 215street. Davy D, Keith Satler, Jamaica Park, Lincoln Park, Disco Kids.... Grand Master and so many more. Those were the days. Block Party NYC!
Seems like a really cool dude, love from the uk

History. Legendary!
Man...I enjoyed this interview.
I loved him.
Ye …
That Basket Ball track is still D.O.P.E
Being the 1st rapper signed to major label , nigga mustve had the worst deal known to mankind.
+S Kay PROLLY getting pennies from those hits smh
Kurt and Russell got a decent deal probably had the best deal of the early days
MrWARBUCKS24 kurtis probably got advance of $50,000 but zero royalties and 10% of album and single sales loool
+S Kay even if that was the deal it was 1980 niggas was getting that in the 90's movies tours sprite endorsement and producing he made pretty good money did alot better then ppl that signed with enjoy or sugar hill records them niggas was getting their money in brown paper bags Sylvia and Joe Robinson took all that publishing
+S Kay LMAOOOO I laughed way to hard at that
That's an OG right there.
Clap your hands everybody if you got what it takes...
This guy is soooo cool.
They need to get Kool Herc on
For real tho
and Caz
+pimpmastaa101 I would love to see all the legends on the show. That would be a great series.
Great to hear from one of the pioneers of Hip-Hop.
I'm always saying that there should be a type of "Hip-Hop Council" to kinda oversee and share their knowledge to help preserve the culture. They wouldn't make the rules for the culture but just more like wise men. Other genres like Country & Rock music have it, why can't we?

classic
Ebro the realist
hiphop lives.
True. Icon. Kb
YYYYYAAAAAASSSSS!!
How tf can you dislike this?
Why did she ask Ebro "why were they mad" instead of asking Kurtis Blow himself!?
+kooliebakedfrog i know right loooool i think ebro hitting that
+John Smith Lmaoo! He must be low key!
17:03 Rosenberg some real shit lols people love to act like being cocky and rapping about your style/material wealth didnt exist in those days! haha NOPE! Them dudes in the 70s and Early 80s were wearing mink coats and lookin fly waaaay back then! And they was bragging about it too!
And this is something that i think spiraled out of control when the 2000s hit and as a result the convenient scapegoat is that all hip hop talks about is money, sex, and material shit. Here's the thing:
There is nothing wrong with talkin about sex, jewelry, and the streets but its HOW AND HOW FREQUENTLY an artist discusses those topics! 90s artists knew how to discuss OTHER TOPICS unlike these new skool clowns!!
A solid 90s hip hop album gave you a COMPLETE MEAL! A solid artist back then gave you party tracks, gangsta tracks, soulful tracks, social commentary tracks, etc
These new artists for the most part lack that SUBSTANCE!!! And even sadder is seeing some of the OGs DUMB DOWN and LOSE that substance they once had in the 90s! I understand that artists gotta keep working and gotta eat, but damn it sucks!!
+AQUAPHREESH193 You're right, hip-hop has always had its flash, as does gorillas beat on their chests and as male peacocks strut for the female or to show alpha male dominance. Although, as Lord Jamar stated some time ago, the men started wearing more diamonds and fur than the women. Yes guys wore minks in the 70's, but go from that to Young Thug and Lil wayne???
Haha its funny you say that because although dudes like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five wore some "questionable" clothes haha even that shit doesnt look weirder than this new fashion! Lols plus it was said they just wore those clothes on stage
You speak the truth my brotha from anotha motha. Hahaha I love using that line, sorry. Seriously though, nowadays 90% of a rapper's catalog is just bragging and I can't relate to them at all. I'm broke, without a job, I'm humble, I like sharing, I don't like having expensive unnecessary shit even though I rarely get to say I got something expensive, I live in Spain with a shitty financial situation to this day, millions unemployed, etc. How can I feel what they are feeling when they talk about mollies, popping bottles, having easy women around, cars, money to throw away, jewelry? But I do love hearing someone tell me their story and through words describe that ghetto they came from and the moments they will ways remember, good and bad. Vince Stapples is one good example but obviously there are bigger names out there. I do love silly songs too. Tyler The Creator like to create ridiculous songs and fun ones too. Funny guy. But he knows how to also speak the truth, to tell his point of view coming from a single mom, being black yet not identifying as the stereotypical African American. Earl says: "Searching for a big brother, Tyler was that
Plus he liked how I rap, the blunted mice in the trap
Too Black for the White kids and too White for the Blacks
From honor roll to cracking locks up off them bicycle racks." which sums it up pretty much. Point is I can't find anything in that music nowadays and I'm only 23. I just find it annoying after a certain point. That point was a couple years ago already. I stopped listening all together. I stick to what I like and rarely start listening to someone new.
you definitely just said some real shit
Preach!
"I'm Chillin!!!"
this was a great interview
-Nobody under 70
my uncle use to tell me about those block parties in the BX they were crazy they don't do that shit anymore.. u don't see Jay Z or Kanye doing a block party lol just rapping songs from there albums Hip Hop is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy to commercial now
Spoony G! Also, don't forget the Last Poets who were Revolutionaries and those Eastern Parkway DJ's were influenced by Garvey. Hip Hop comes from Revolutionaries.
alright alright alright alright
Wow
Hip Hop.
I remember when that song came out i swore in was Caz Grandmaster Caz i always wish he would sign that contract he deserved that ..But like everything when its getting started lots of Artist get jerk.It happend with the salsa stars early rock and rock with black folks.ect......We also have to watch out for the snakes..But the women that had the vision god bless her....Bronx love 183..I use to look for jams from the west bronx to the south bronx...Love the battle at Roosevelt high school with fantastic romantic 5 vs The Cold Crush Brothers..JDL hu hu..
Not enough research has been dedicated to the history of Hip Hop pre capitalism. Like from 1971-1979.
+FriendsWit DaDealer This is correct. I would be interested in learning about that period.
FriendsWit DaDealer Well I guess you can say the foundation was due to James Brown
yes cuz there are many tapes made during that period...also we can't forget that besides Kurtis Blow there was Starski, Busy Bee, Joe Bataan (rap o clap), King Tim III, Furious Five crew....etc
Yes b/c The Lost Poets established this but if you look back at old race movies like Stormy Weather, you will see a scene where musicians say "watch you gon do? Try somethin' new!" , then compare it to GrandMaster Flash on Freedom "gonna try sonething new! Watch you gon do?! Now that you know my zodiac sign, put yo sign into this rhyme!"
I think who introduce the capitalism in Hip-Hop was Too $hort and LL Cool J, their rivalry in 1985, 86, 87, 88 was absolutely useless.
#SHOUTOUT2YAMAHA4HIP-HOP!!!
Damn look he jumped out of the bushes lol. Looking good Kurtis.
Breaks on the stove breaks on the couch, Breaks that make me feel like a mouse
Kurtis Blow was a producer too. Look at I fail to see the logic by Twice as Nice.
Kurtis Blow
Harlem all day !
People REALLY dont give Disco King MARIO his respect!
not too many people can ROCK that hat!!
1st hip-hop solo artist to ever be decorated with any plaque #gold2bexact #factz #shalom
the crash crew
theres no great stories like this anymore like it was in kurtis blow and other rappers from that time all stories now are boring like drake, tyga, wiz khalifa, all great artist too but it just aint the same struggle and fame like it was back then a humbleness that cared more about the passion of rap than money
GOT FUCKING GRANDPA OVERHERE LOL
These stories of history from Kurtis Blow is the reason why I refuse to call most of this trash they put out now Hip Hop. It just isn't Hip Hop. It has nothing to do with anything he said.
a million subscribers but most of these interviews barely got a half a million views on them
+Proof Yang There are advanced ways to weigh the value of a video other than views. As the Marketing/Social Media Manager, I would take into consideration the quality of the comments (engagement). as well as shares. So while on the surface it might not seem like there is that much activity, there might be far more going on than we are aware of.
+ortem000 thanks for the info. I need some of that on my channels too lol
+Proof Yang You are off to a good start. Check out the message I sent you. :-)
