    I am only about 5 hours into the game and this was all spot on to my first impressions. I personally find the central movement very fun and that sense of speed coupled with being able to cover a lot of ground very quickly has really made the collecting go down smoothly. The swimming is very janky as you noted. You can use sprint to swim faster which definitely makes it much more bareable but still clunky. I also played on PC on a rig that has no trouble playing modern releases on the highest settings and for some reason the max setting in particular here ran very poorly with constant stuttering and did not look good imo, adding a weird mushy layer to the character models that I think is supposed to be fur (sort of like Conker in Live and Reloaded but much worse lol). Lowering to high proved a MUCH smoother performance and the game even looked better to me but there was still some stutters. I feel like this game would be better if there were more ingame options to tailor things better like the mentioned camera speed being strangley slow. Despite the jankiness though, I've been having a good time! Nice review ❤

    A much fairer review than Nintendo Life's.

      @@Tim-007 I'm not saying that Nintendo Life don't make some valid concerns in their review, but 3/10 does seem overly harsh, and to call the game a "broken mess", when they gave both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet 7/10, and the framerate dips, pop-in and bugs on launch were so bad in those that Nintendo gave a public apology for them!

      @TimLegdeur The fact that you had to watch another review after Nintendo Life's shows you didn't trust it either, so there is no need to be upset with the comment.

  • @FlowerAngelRave
    @FlowerAngelRave Год назад +6

    It does seem to have some good things about it, like you said. But it's a shame that the bugs and frame rate dips really bring it down, especially given that you played the PC version. It might be worth picking up on a deep sale, but for the moment, I might just play A Hat in Time or Banjo Kazooie. Hopefully it can be fixed as well, because the potential is certainly there. Thanks for the review.

    This game reminded me the most of Gex. Mostly due to the costumes and a lot of shared level themes. I’d probably give it a 6/10, it would probably be a 7 if it was more polished.

    I had that glitch of hanging and just being stuck and unable to move too and I had to exit the level.
    I also had a glitch in the LondoN level where I ran out of the way of the carriage that is constantly going around, and somehow managed to clip completely out of bounds. I was left running on an invisible ceiling for a while and could run all the way over to where the sewer area was tucked under the map before I veered off completely and finally fell to my death.

      @@IDreamofIndie Tell me about it, got it on day one and played it to "completion", missed out on the 100% because one item didn't register (one of the bugs in the forest area)
      That being said, I adore those kinds of game. Platformers with a cozy artstyle and interesting movement tech. Eventhough this clive n wrench game has been on my wishlist for a while it might stay there a little bit longer.

      This game has bugs and performance issues (which are worse on some platforms than others), but so do many big-budget releases.
      Remember, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were so-bad on launch, Nintendo issued a public apology. Yet I still see reviews as high as 8.5/10 for them. For this game, I've seen scores as low as 1/10!

    New 3D platformers I'm all in. 3D platformers that just keep trying to be 90's callbacks over and over and over and over... yeah not so much especially when those games end up repeating the same mistakes as 30 year old games. Try being more original indies.

  • @AlgaeEater09

    So it's a banjo Kazooie knock off.

    • @dftfire
      @dftfire Год назад +3

      To be fair though, you could argue that of literally most 3D platformers now: how else can you do it differently? Even BK was just doing what Super Mario 64 did, but with the major-difference of not getting booted-out of a level after finding the highest-tier collectable (Jiggy Vs Star).
      The only other style would be smaller levels, but more of them (e.g. Spyro), or levels that comprise of a series of many small rooms (e.g. Croc), or a totally linear level, where you only go in one direction (e.g. classic Crash Bandicoot).
      There's only so-many ways you can do a 3D platform game, and it seems most people now prefer the "large-level, open-sandbox" style.

    • @brianvaira486
      @brianvaira486 Год назад

      I wish it was more similar to Banjo. Banjo had an interesting hub, new moves and power ups to learn, charming characters, and great music… and this does not. It feels more like a forgotten ps1 platformer, on par with something like Jersey Devil.

    • @dftfire
      @dftfire Год назад

      @@brianvaira486 If you want a game that feels exactly like Banjo then it already exists: it's called "Banjo-Kazooie", and has a sequel, "Banjo-Tooie" (and a GBA version).
      If you want Banjo, why not just play Banjo? The Xbox Live Arcade version offers sharper textures and a solid framerate; or use an emulator. I don't see the point of releasing new games that just entirely mimic one that already exists?

    • @brianvaira486
      @brianvaira486 Год назад

      "If you want Banjo, why not just play banjo" because I've played them both dozens of times already, and Microsoft isn't ever making a follow up. So people will naturally look to indie games to make up for it. I don't want a platformer that's exactly like Banjo, but at least one that's on par quality wise.

    • @dftfire
      @dftfire Год назад

      @@brianvaira486 Okay, but still... did the developer of Clive n Wrench say it was supposed to be a tribute to only BK? I think they said 90s platformers generally, so it would be odd to look to this game as some sort of spiritual follow-on. That's what Yooka-Laylee was for, given it was actual ex-Rare employees who made it. This game is not trying to be that, but just a simple collectathon, similar to the first Spyro.
      Quality-wise, yes the game undeniably has bugs that need to be sorted. But so do even many big-budget releases thesedays, and this game was made by one person! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were so bad on-launch Nintendo even issued a public apology, yet I can still find reviews as high as 8.5/10 for them.
