I'd just like to point out in case it wasn't clear in the video that I was playing the PC version of the game via Steam, before it launched... so I can't really comment on any of the other versions, or on any fixes that may have been made with a day one patch.
It's all new to me cause I usually review old games 😅

Do you have any thoughts on the abundance of physics issues and janky animations on the PC version? I was surprised to not hear them mentioned, along with the slow camera and lack of input customization.

    • @Petronious
      @Petronious  Год назад +3

@@spencerbryan8819 Can't really say physics objects or the camera caused me any major issues. If they'd caused me a big problem I'd have definitely brought it up!
Lack of input customisation may be an oversight on my part as I generally review console games, so I just plugged my Xbox controller in... and what controls were presented to me worked fine enough really!

Always enjoy it when 3D platformers use purples in their hues, it's just so pleasing on the eyes and this game is no exception! The movement looks smooth and satisfying too. My good fellow, you have sold me so hard on this game. It's going on my Steam wishlist right now. I'm intrigued to really give it a go, since I normally don't go near new games as of late, but this is also speaking my lingo. 😁That and a game that opens with the main characters asleep on a couch gets a thumbs up from me.
Looking at the hover mechanic, I actually think that's meant to be like Crystal Dynamic's _Whiplash,_ in which Spanx the Weasel can hover by whirling Redmond the Rabbit over his head with the chain that tethers them.
*Also, fun fact:* The time-travelling fridge concept is probably another sneaky nod to _Back To The Future._ In one of the earliest drafts, Marty was supposed to use a Coca-Cola-powered time chamber Doc Brown built out of a refrigerator.

I love how much airtime this game has been getting. Clive 'n' Wrench looks freaking awesome, from menu to movement, and you're completely right that very few games nowadays don't sprinkle the odd mini-game or deviation into the gameplay loop, especially in 3D. Even the triple A titles have one or two pace breakers.
Also one of the PSone boxes is titled: "Spiral 2: Trouble with the Trolley, Eh?" FREAKING HILARIOUS! Great review dude.

This game looks decent to me, especially given it was made by one person. But I think this is literally the _only_ positive review I've seen on RUclips for it. Seems to be getting 5/10 on average, though some reviews are even 1/10 or 2/5! Many seem to really hate it. So I'm not sure what to think.
If it has bugs and technical issues, sure, that is a genuine issue. But people expecting the visuals to be on-par with Yooka-Laylee or Odyssey is silly, given they had larger teams, and millions spent on them. Or for people to say "it's just like Banjo-Kazooie", well, aren't most 3D platformers in the past 20 years just large, sandbox style levels where you do missions or freely explore? How-else can you really do it different?

NintendoLife just released a review of this game, and they gave this a 3/10? Honestly, NLife's reviews are pretty terrible (don't get me started on the idiot who reviewed the Snow Bros Remastered), and actually reading it for myself, I feel the user was pretty harsh on a lot of stuff. Although now I'm looking at it, I think they have just grabbed a random user to review this......
Anyway, after watching this video, I'm actually curious in checking it out for myself. I think if you're expecting Mario Odyssey quality, then you're going to be disappointed. The fact this looks like it was made by a small team, it really doesn't look that bad and looks fun.
Maybe this is just me, but the main characters remind me of Crash Bandicoot, Coco Bandicoot, and Neo Cortex in design. I could be wrong on this, but it feels like they were too inspired by those characters I mentioned.
The reference to the PlayStation games is funny, I feel the one referencing Spyro 2 (Spiral 2: Trouble with the trolley, eh?), kind of ruins the funny moment. I personally didn't have an issue with that part, so maybe's that why the joke just rubs me the wrong way. It would be like if I named a fake game "Speedy the Porcupine: Just Hold Right". Something that isn't true in Sonic games, and would feel like I'm taking the piss out of a franchise.
As I said, I'm curious in checking this out, but maybe later on down the line.

Yeah this in something I intend to address is a channel update if I ever sit down and make one of those...
DAH is kinda the perfect example though, as originally I made those two videos before swapping to my newer, less whacky video style and didn't know what to do with the series as I didn't like the idea of it being split across two separate styles of video.
Time went on and I've grown even more detached from all of my older content so I've just hidden it away.
There's a LOT of stuff I'd be happy to redo now though, as I'm happier with my video format these days. Things like Pac-Man, Split Second, Dead Head Fred and DAH are all candidates.
I've played through and recorded footage of the DAH1 remake, but haven't gotten very far with the second remake. I played it for a bit, but it just felt pretty buggy and rushed in comparison so I turned it off 😅
      I'll finish it some day.
