Just a little paramedic trick - put a couple pairs of gloves on at once. When one pair gets dirty slip then off and you already have a clean pair on. 🍻
When i first moved into my house the yard was pretty much dead and nothing but dirt patches all 16,988 sq ft. Once i fixed the sprinkler system and started watering... weeds began popping up everywhere. The dormant st. augustine finally came back and i basically hand pulled weeds every weekend getting a walmart bag size of bull thistles each time. After doing this for about two years the yard is weed free and looks awesome.
Perfect timing. I just got some glyphosate and am getting ready to start nuking some quackgrass that has been creeping in. I had no idea what that was until I saw one of your vids. Wish me luck!
I'm thinking of using a sod cutter to get rid of the weeds and grass; then adding a mix of starter fertilizer and top soil and planting plugs. Would this approach work in lieu of chemicals to get rid of the a salad bar?
I just spot sprayed a bunch of my crap yard to start fresh. I tried to dig out all the weeds, but it would of taken months. So I crop dusted them with round up! So long suckers!!! Hello awesome grass...
Just to add to this and because I have brought many a horrible, tired, bentgrass infected lawn to its death in preparation for new, lush, highly refined, genetics. I would recommend a fan tip nozzle and spike the mix with a generous amount of food coloring. Enough that you can get a color change on the sprayed grass so you can see exactly where you are spraying. I buy professional turf dyes myself but enough food coloring will work also. After 4-5 days of sunny weather the affected grass will show signs of discoloring. Anything that doesn't should be sprayed again. Getting the first app as uniform as possible will save time down the road in the case of missed areas. I also recommend watering the lawn well for two days after 24 hours to get the chemical moved throughout the plant quickly for complete and undeniable death to old, tired, weed infested, antique genetics. Allyn, you are the best! I know cause I'm a lawn care nut myself!
I'm a new(ER) home owner. 3 seasons ago we bought a house and the yard was a mess and I did my 3/4 step and it looked ok toward the end. The second season the same and the results maybe a little worse due to a bad new neighbor imo. This season. Bad!!! I'd say I'm almost 50% weeds ( mostly dandelion) so I'm asking when do I quit and start over? I've wasted hundred maybe thousands in spreads and treatments and aerating and even dethatching but still very very very bad(can send pic) do I tear it out?
you can also use a method not quite sure the specific name but I call it microwaving where you take black mylar plastic and you cover the entire thing then you take clear plastic and you want to keep it a good four inches above the black plastic which will create a microwave affect and trap the heat in there causing it to cook anything underneath the black tarp love your Channel my yard looks awesome because of you thank you and all the hard work I do
+Thirty Two yes that is a very good, clean method. It's just not one that I have the time to accomplish. It's also labor intensive. I've not seen any vids on that method either, let me know if you run across one. thank you!
Allyn- I just built a house and they only sodded the front, and the back was a wild field, full of everything you don't want on your lawn, so I think I need to kill it and start fresh. How far do I need to keep this spray from trees? They planted 3 new trees, about 10' tall and I don't want to harm them in this process.
Dan Weese bring in free mulch from local arborist and let it compost on top of all the Vegetation and it will cook all the seeds and vegetation underneath it and you will get rich healthy to once it decays over about a year. Remove the top layer of big chunky mulch in a year or so and you will have a rich healthy top soil with carbon and minerals. Don't go with a typical landscape, look to Mother Nature and try to replicate her. Mulch like a forest floor!
Allyn, what are your thoughts on watering a lawn. I know they say less frequent and deep watering is best for root development, but I have had success with more frequent waterings.
Hey Allyn, now that you are using St. Augustin palmetto, would you still be using Milorganite? because I called the company yesterday and the rep. said it is safe and good to use here in florida.
Good video I’ve just got a couple questions. After the lawn and weeds are killed do I have to rip up all the dead grass before replanting? Or can I bring in new dirt and cover it?
When phosphate ore is refined into elemental phosphorous, it leaves a radioactive by-product known as slag. Monsanto’s elemental phosphorous facility, situated just a few miles from its phosphate mines, produces prodigious quantities of slag that contains elevated concentrations of radioactive material. For years, this slag was actually sold to the town of Soda Springs and nearby Pocatello, and people built their homes and roadways out it. In the 1980s, however, the EPA conducted a radiological survey of the community and warned that citizens might be at risk from elevated gamma ray exposure. The study concluded that if business continued as usual in Soda Springs, within four decades “the probability of contracting cancer due to exposure from elemental phosphorous slag” would “be about one chance in 2,500 in Pocatello and one chance in 700 in Soda Springs.”
I sprayed round up on my lawn 3 weeks ago and now im actually scalping it to dirt, filling low spots and filling in mole tunnels. I have sections with pretty thick thatch, should i remove all that as well or will the new seed be ok?
i notice you have very nice pavers, about 2 yrs ago i did a home DIY addition with a nation and pavers but have weeds and other stuff growing thru the cracks, what is the best chemical to use to hinder this problem, currently i use roundup and find myself having to do it 2-3 times annually, but round up makes super-weeds now...
I was told to do kill off my lawn. It's a bermuda lawn that's never been maintained. I bought the house a year ago. So If I kill it off will it' be okay next season? Will the bermuda come back. I'll continue to work on the weeds like your videos. I'm not plugging or using sod. Hope the bermuda comes back an spreads. Will it?
How long to reseed the grass I put Roundup on my grass and then I turned over all the dirt a month later how long should I wait to put the grass seeds .
Love the videos..please keep making them. The sharpies/markers on the paper sound is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Can you just use a pen possibly? Maybe something not so scratchy?
I have learned a sweet way to restart ot just start a new garden.. Over the area, cover it all with about 8 or 10 layers of newspaper, wet it down to stay... make it overlap.. even over weeds and grasses.. the area you want for a new garden.. It can be all around the whole yard..No need to dig it up.. Cover all and water, then I added some layers of cabbage leaves..I got them form the ladies making cabbage rolls, and they gave me all the outer leaves they throw away.. this prevents the growth of weeds.. so I added a second layer of paper over this.. and some mulch and soil.. to hide it..lol Over winter, they all fell apart, and it was the greatest soil. if you want to plant right away, then add more soil and plant the seeds.. or cover with mulch..or compost, for veggies and flowers.. and you do not need the cabbage,, The cabbage helped to break down the very hard soil. Just start with the soil or compost over the papers. I did save papers and rolled them up 10 pieces in a roll. using the larger newspaper is best.. an elastic, and into a box in the shed so it was ready for use. The cabbage is helpful if doing it to hard soil, over winter..it will be the best soil in spring. This also works for walk ways .. covered with paper and top with wood chips. .. (over grass or weeds etc.). x0x
Question: everything makes sense in calculating the the amount of product needed, mix rates against total surface area of your lawn. But you are doing this one hand can at a time, which would cover approx. 600 sq. ft. before you run out of the can. Do you mark off or know approximately how much is 600 sq ft to know you are putting enough down at each run?
+grapeice925 good observation! I know what 600 square ft "looks" and "feels" like because I measure my lawn in the video before this one. That's why I step the lawn off physically with a tape measure instead of using internet mapping tools to figure my lawn size. The act of measuring helps you visualize various sizes.
Is it possible to use glyphosate in an area that's surrounded by healthy lawn? Meaning, will this leach to other areas of the lawn or stay put once dried?
+The Lawn Care Nut thanks, as always, for the comment. The lawn is really coming along. We're supposed to get some nice rain this weekend. Hoping for some nice growth in the next few weeks.
The Lawn Care Nut , I just laid Zeon Zoysia sod in half of my back yard, now just sprayed the other half to kill off everything before the next batch of sod, I'm concerned about cross contamination from futue walking through the sprayed area to the new sod area, when is it safe, after the sprayed area is dry? Thanks in advance!
Can I lay new turf on top of my old crap patch lawn because it’s not worth pulling it up because it’s crappie and patchy of is there a way to kill the grass so I can lay the new lawn on top 👍
Great video thank you just need some advice I have Bermuda Turf last fall I put down some perennial rye I love the way it looks and want to keep I looked year What can I do
Also, I heard from a landscaper that if you mix the glyphosate with water, you need to apply the mix promptly. Water will hasten the breakdown of the glyphosate, within one or two days.
+Vytas Rauckis I've never heard that before, but as a rule, I wouldn't leave anything in mixed state for more than a couple days anyway as I don't want to store it.
I enjoy glyphosate. Also, the concentration of the concentrate doesn't matter. It just changes the ratio that you mix it. Nothing wrong with glyphosate.
Hey man I know you probably busy. I went on vacation and my neighbor Thought it was a good idea to spray Roundup all over my property there isn't a straight line around any of my beds It's torched! Any idea how I can fix this. Should I till it all up get rid of the soil? Or can i just get away with overseed? It's about 4 foot of the area in all my Corners about two and a half feet staggered down my driveway Any advice man I could really use last time this happened it took me 3 years to fix I'll be honest with you I'm a little tipped off . He also sprayed and then when to mowing Which was on a way too low of a setting and scalp my lawn so my whole Lawns burned now. One other thing should I be nice to him or tell him how he fked up my lawn That I work so hard so had for.
Hey Allyn, another great video. I can't wait for you to have your green carpet going. Quick tip on the gloves, I detail cars and I use these gloves called Venom Steel. Lowes has them. Pretty darn good.
I cant have st augustine but I do. Its growing in patches and high foot traffic is killing my st augustine. So, Can I kill my st augustine like you did in this video and then plant yukon Bermuda?
Hey Allyn, with this video being a bit outdated and since you're no longer living in this area, can you recommend another product that I could order on eBay or Amazon? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for all the info Allyn. I am extremely stoked that you chose St. Augustine & that you're going to plug vs. sod. After retiring from the Air Force, I moved back to my house in Northwest Florida (was gone for three years) only to find that the renters scalped what used to be a lush green, St. Augustine carpet. I came back to a weed farm. I can't blame the renters though...I should have not been a cheap skate & hired a professional to maintain the lawn while I was gone. Fortunately I can salvage the front yard with plugging about 300 to 500 plugs. The back yard is another story. It's going to need the Erasure Glyphosate method. Does it kill vines as well?
+Patrick G at least you will have fun in your retirement bro!! and yes, gly will kill that vine no prob. But make sure you get all of it! or it will creep back.
I love your videos and I’m about ready to do this to a good portion of my lawn. Do you have pictures/videos of how everything looked 10 days after the application? Also, how did you reseed the sprayed area?
The WHO did not classify glyphosate a "probable carcinogen", the IARC of the WHO did that in 2015. The WHO itself in 2016 at the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues said that glyphosate does not cause cancer along with every regulator and health agency in the world.
The official classification of glyphosate is group 2A, probable human carcinogen. Which for reference is a lower classification than that of beer which is group 1, known carcinogen.
Glyphosate, all by it's Lonesome, might not be Carcinogenic. It is when you add the other Ingredients, in Roundup and similar Toxic Crap, is when it becomes Carcinogenic. Roundup has more than one Ingredient. You know the dark, gooey, burnt mess you are left with, in your Home Shopping Network "Sea, for Tea", Sea Monkey Tea Bag Boiling Apparatus, after you Boil one too many "Sea, for Tea" Tea Bags, for you and your "Sea"blings Morning Tea? It has that, in it. "Sea" you, at Recess, Monkeys.
Does glyphosate cause cancer? You should do a video on it. Is it only dangerous to farmers? Is it only dangerous when applied to the food we eat? Or it’s dangerous to an average homeowner? Round up getting sued left and right.
I always see you struggling with those latex gloves, my tip is spay a little water in them and then slide your hands in and squeeze the water out. Thanks for the tips, will be looking for the next video.
Leighton Thigpen Better than water, you can just use a little dry soil or dirt and rub your hands to coat and the gloves will slide on easily. Or if you don’t like a little dirt on your hands go with a little cornstarch or talcum powder. Gloves slide on and off easily!
he has a few videos if you click on them. "never buy name brand products". use the home depot brand , hdx instead of round up and just follow the directions and add 1oz baby shampoo to the mix
Ok, thanks, I 'll try it. I been doing some more research since i posted this question, but, what are your thoughts of Triclopyr 4 at a higher concentrate than the Ortho Weed B Gon gone version? Thanks!!!
Triclopyr is very useful. It does not kills grasses however. In my state it is no longer labeled for turf. Used to use it in combo with a 3-way broadleaf herbicide. In this combo I used a very low rate, and it was tremendously effective against difficult weeds. I use triclopyr for some brush areas where glyphosate is not so effective. I also use it for brush areas where I want to preserve native grasses.
+The Lawn Care Nut thank you im in maryland I'll prepare myself next spring, I'll wait till you finish your yard. my backyard is perfect but the front yard is not that appealing.
would you not have mixed the glyphosate( designed to kill narrow leaf plants) with a 2-4D or damine ( broadleaf weed killer/ lawn weedkiller) to get a total kill on everything.
+The Lawn Care Nut . Yeah Allyn I always do this when spraying an area that has been left to grow wild. You get a more effective control of all the weeds. Glyphosate is a very effective broad-spectrum weed killer, being particularly strong on grass weeds, however the addition of other herbicides can help the product control more difficult to kill broadleaf weeds or make the overall spray job more efficacious and economical.
Personally I use metric for the calculation. So if you want a 2% solution it is simple, for 10 liters of water you add 0.2 liters of Roundup, or 200 milliliters. No more remembering how many ounces are in a gallon.
Sweet, bought me a bottle of agent orange today (HDX 41% Glyphosate, you know the one LoL ). Time to thrower down. Let's hope the rabbits don't decide to come back in the next week.
Anyone who is buying "Round-up" brand herbicide in 2019 has never heard of Imitator Plus its the same chemical only difference is 2 quarts of Round-up is $94....2.5 gallons of imitator plus is $34.... 1 quart per acre is definitely more than enough to kill off everything. 2.5 gallons is enough to spray my 47 acres so the savings are huge
Here's my lawn program: Spring #1 Clean the lawn and mow the lawn #2 Put grass seeds #3 Put Milorganite fertilizer #4 Water the grass in the morning, when the days are hot Summer #1 Mow the grass #2 Put Milorganite fertilizer #3 Water the grass Fall #1 Mow the grass #2 Put Milorganite fertilizer #3 Clean the lawn My lawn size is 80 square feet, so I don't put weed killer, it's just not Environmentally friendly and expensive so I just pull them out, because there's not allot of them. Tell me in the comments if this is good for a small lawn program.
Here's a math question for you, what is the percent of glyphosate if you add 5 oz into 2 gallons of water, (5 oz plus 251 oz of water = 2 gallons). Roundup shows only 1% listed on the label. If my math is right I think it turns out to 5%
does this work on high grass about 2 feet tall? i need to kill 6ft x 500ft.. This shit is dangerous AF.. it's in the air you know. dye is a great idea cause I'm going to hire a home depot street guy.
This clumping fescue has to go!!!! I sprayed the clumps and taller leafy weeds with Roundup. Should I lay down weed&feed for the smaller weeds pests and grass seed? I'm unclear on my plan of attack from this point
+Shaka Farrier use Milorganite as your fert and spot spray weeds with a hand can - make sure to get a weed control that is made for weeds and won't harm your turf (a "selective" herbicide)
+The Lawn Care Nut Thanks for giving back to the community and for your quick response. Clumping fescue is my biggest problem here. Is Glyphosate my only hope in killing the clumps? Im assuming its best to dig them up after they die. I'm still trying to figure out what type of grass I have so that I can grab some grass seed and fert (Norfolk, VA). Sorry this is so long, the store employees haven't been helpful.
Just a little paramedic trick - put a couple pairs of gloves on at once. When one pair gets dirty slip then off and you already have a clean pair on. 🍻
I do that with my underwear!
Works with condoms too
Great tip !

Yea cause it takes no brains lol
It’s definitely came along way!
Good video I’ve just got a couple questions. After the lawn and weeds are killed do I have to rip up all the dead grass before replanting? Or can I bring in new dirt and cover it?

Some of the best explained lawn video's. Thanks
thank you John!

+Bill Meacham not likely unless you really soak it. Be careful in those areas and go lighter if possible.
What about big trees i dont want to harm, but have garbage growing underneath the canopy?
Hey Allyn, another great video. I can't wait for you to have your green carpet going. Quick tip on the gloves, I detail cars and I use these gloves called Venom Steel. Lowes has them. Pretty darn good.
+envieddesigns thank you for the reco! I will check those out for sure!!!
Waiting on the 7 day update!
Chris Medelez - covered in cancerous tumours. And the neighbours.
Laziness.
Love your videos. Very helpful and well done.
Thoughts on the World Health Organization labeling Glyphosate as a "probable carcinogen"?
+Pipebomb it's not my first choice at all. It's my only option at this point and I practice Integrated Pest Management as my approach.
Pipebomb IARC used high exposures no one ever sees. alcohol was rated a definite carcinogen by the same organization, and we're all still drinking.
How long should one wait before planting new grass?
Just what I needed - thanks Mr. Hane!
you gotta be the coolest lawn guy i dont know lol
Does glyphosate cause cancer? You should do a video on it. Is it only dangerous to farmers? Is it only dangerous when applied to the food we eat? Or it’s dangerous to an average homeowner? Round up getting sued left and right.
LCN any sugestions for killing dallisgrass in a bermuda lawn
I always see you struggling with those latex gloves, my tip is spay a little water in them and then slide your hands in and squeeze the water out. Thanks for the tips, will be looking for the next video.
+Leighton Thigpen good idea I will try that! or just get better gloves ;)
The Lawn Care Nut or try some lube
Leighton Thigpen Better than water, you can just use a little dry soil or dirt and rub your hands to coat and the gloves will slide on easily. Or if you don’t like a little dirt on your hands go with a little cornstarch or talcum powder. Gloves slide on and off easily!
Where's the link to the next step? Interested to see the tilling/seeding process or whatever it entails.
I just used this product in my backyard I hope it will work :)
I used ground cler and it didnt work and i mixed like it said im about to go do it again so we will see
Is it safe?
Vwry helpful and quick vid
What is the video before this one?
How do I kill a 1/2 acre of small weeds before I put down sod? Do I just use Round up
he has a few videos if you click on them. "never buy name brand products". use the home depot brand , hdx instead of round up and just follow the directions and add 1oz baby shampoo to the mix
Thanks LCN!
What do you recommend for killing off wild violets?
+Aaron Warner this same method you see in this playlist ruclips.net/video/SQcqr0pi-yc/видео.html
I also use it for brush areas where I want to preserve native grasses.
can you also do this technique in the fall or does it have to be spring?
fall is the best time for cool season lawns, there will be less weed pressure while the grass sprouts.
+alpha robins it would not work here in Florida with plugs. You have to start in spring so the plugs have time to fill in before winter.
+The Lawn Care Nut thank you im in maryland I'll prepare myself next spring, I'll wait till you finish your yard. my backyard is perfect but the front yard is not that appealing.
What are the results????
Where in Florida are you located? I need something like this for my lawn
Do you think you will ever do another round of LCN stickers. I never received mine.
+magnum960 yes I will be. sorrry you didn't get it, I mailed them all out
+The Lawn Care Nut I must have screwed up on the order form. I'll catch the next round. I was just hoping for some LCN decal for the Honda.
How do I get rid of moss.
I advise you people make a little search on YT about why lawns are awful for the environment. How about leaving those "weeds" alone?
band product from usa ,keep ctizen healthy
very thorough. thank you.
would you not have mixed the glyphosate( designed to kill narrow leaf plants) with a 2-4D or damine ( broadleaf weed killer/ lawn weedkiller) to get a total kill on everything.
+Des Wheelock I've never heard that before. Glyphosate, from my experience, kills anything and everything green.
+The Lawn Care Nut . Yeah Allyn I always do this when spraying an area that has been left to grow wild. You get a more effective control of all the weeds. Glyphosate is a very effective broad-spectrum weed killer, being particularly strong on grass
weeds, however the addition
of other herbicides can help the product control more difficult to kill broadleaf weeds or make the overall spray job more efficacious
and economical.
Will baby shampoo work as a surfactant with this too?
How's the yard looking?
+Brett Davis pretty dead! :)
Thanks!
Dude your an awesome utuber
Thanks for sharing Allyn. Very imformative.
+Top Notch Lawn Care you're welcome bro!
Here's my lawn program:
Spring
#1 Clean the lawn and mow the lawn
#2 Put grass seeds
#3 Put Milorganite fertilizer
#4 Water the grass in the morning, when the days are hot
Summer
#1 Mow the grass
#2 Put Milorganite fertilizer
#3 Water the grass
Fall
#1 Mow the grass
#2 Put Milorganite fertilizer
#3 Clean the lawn
My lawn size is 80 square feet, so I don't put weed killer, it's just not Environmentally friendly and expensive so I just pull them out, because there's not allot of them. Tell me in the comments if this is good for a small lawn program.
80 square feet? Sir. You can do whatever you want with that yard
Here's a math question for you, what is the percent of glyphosate if you add 5 oz into 2 gallons of water, (5 oz plus 251 oz of water = 2 gallons). Roundup shows only 1% listed on the label. If my math is right I think it turns out to 5%
How close should I get to the neighbor’s lawn without damaging any of his good grass?
Nice video
1:08 almost crapped my pants!
+john pierce :)
"close enough for government work anyway"
does this work on high grass about 2 feet tall? i need to kill 6ft x 500ft.. This shit is dangerous AF.. it's in the air you know. dye is a great idea cause I'm going to hire a home depot street guy.
🤘
Prom nights video was very creepy
