Thanks, Ash, for explaining centre tensioning. That price is very reasonable for what really is a hand-made precision tool. If you want anything hand-made, whether it's shoes, a suit, a bookshelf or an instrument, you have to expect a premium price. There are many hours of work behind the designing and making of this pick, and 'The workman deserves his wages.' is a statement which we should all remember.

There's an old saying... Buy once, cry once. I have experience working with stainless steel and it can be a real pain in the ass to work with, at least most of the stainless you would make tools from that is. The price is well justified for what you're getting. Thanks for sharing this with us, it's a cool piece of kit!

  • @alger8181

Beautiful bit of equipment. I'd say it's well worth the expense, given the make, material, and accessories. Is it better than the LPL&BB pick? Well, yeah. It is. Hence, the price. LPL&BB designed a pick that works well within its parameters, is of quality make, and *affordable* (Which it is, all of that). Not the end all be all of disc detainer picks. You put in a lot of hours with locks, and the videos that help us all, so definitely not something you should feel any guilt over purchasing. Thanks for showing it off.

This pick has always been either #1 or #2 on my wish list. It’s very versatile and I wish “the pick that Bosnian Bill and I made” offered a few different pieces that would allow it to rear tension. And made the rear tensioner longer to go deep when needed. I’m sure they are going to offer a expansion pack. If they don’t they are slipping. Oh well enough of me complaining. Great tool, but given the price and features it's rather something for the dedicated DD lockpicker. I mean, sure, the Sparrows pick doesn't have all of the same feature, but then again it's $45 while this (version of it) is nearly 9 times that. I think the Sparrows tool is great for when you're trying to get the hang of DD locks and when you know that you're into it it's time to add the Silver Bullet to your arsenal.

@Hell's favorite NPC #69OU812 . exe I paid 407 USD, I believe. If you get on the website (just Google "Silver Bullet Disc Detainer lock pick") there is an option in the top right of the webpage to change the price to a handful of different currency. There are two websites that sell similar (but still different) products. They are both affiliated with each other. Lockfall Laboratories has a 3D printer variant that sells for about 150 USD. The pick that Lock Noob has in this video is from the actual Silver Bullet website and is the more pricey one.
Depending on what you are attempting to accomplish and what your budget looks like right now, one may be better than the other.
      Hope this helps!

If this is of limited run or not enough coming out of the factory each year for that price then its a pass for me. Why buy a tool that's hard to get that costs a fortune. What will happen eventually is the same tool made with similar or better materials being sold for less and in large numbers. I've seen this with lots of products in the past. It just takes time. If money wasn't an issue then sure I'd get this but I'd still be concerned about the availability of replacement heads and the tool itself. Another issue is if the manufacturer just flopped leaving you with a tool that you can't maintain unless you machined the parts yourself. Is this their only product? I also notice its currently sold out. Do new ones eventually come in stock? I feel sceptical about this. I think Sparrows had the right idea with the price point on their product, plus its backed by LPL and BosnianBill. I could also buy replacement heads for cheap as well as more of those tools if needed without breaking the bank.
