    Death was a band that kept evolving and pushing heavy music into uncharted waters like no other band before or since.

      @bkce you know that would be a great episode of AA ..a round table discussion on who influenced more musicians..Bathory or Death?
      Hey Alan wink, wink , nudge, nudge!

      @bronagh666 2 года назад +2

      @bkce nothing against Bathory at all I luv them and your argument is a great one..for the sake of argument and good friendly discussion I would say that Death influenced more musicians. Death Metal, the more extreme side of Prog Metal and was a important step leading to Black Metal and pushing excellent musicianship into all kinds of metal just to point out a few reasons. So to say they only influenced one type of metal I would have to disagree with that. Both bands are so important to the evolution of our beloved music I honestly can't fault anyone for choosing either side..but I'll stand by my original statement.

    I remember buying Leprosy when it came out and having it in my Walkman at school. We were doing a class called audio visual where we broke into groups and made a radio ad over background music. Teacher needed a tape so Leprosy was the backing track for all the ads that day.

    Great podcast Sir and especially love the Call from the grave series. It inspires to go back and relisten to the older classic extreme metal bands and rediscover how innovating and inspiring these artists were. Truly ahead of their time.

    Great video!
    Max Phelps is the guy fronting Death To All and he is doing an amazing job. I saw them in Stockholm a few years ago and even if its a tribute-thing it is one of the best gigs I have seen actually. Tomas Haake was there too in the crowd and looked really impressed and happy. :)
    I saw them again at Copenhell a few weeks ago, its just amazing music and they are very humble and clear about the whole thing being a tribute to Chuck. At Copenhell Max actually stepped back and turned around between the songs to let Steve take the cheers and applause from the crowd and handle the interaction. Really classy.

      yep, no doubt he does an amazing job. I remember seeing Thin Lizzy at Hellfest a few years ago, and sure....no Phil Lynott of course, but it was pretty good and really heart warming to hear 'the cowboy song' rolling across the field and people singing along, better to keep the songs alive somehow than let them die entirely. Pun intended!

    What can you say? The man is a metal legend, and his vocals were insane. His cover of Painkiller is almost like power death metal. Great episode Alan! Recently discovered this podcast and never listened to Primordial before, so I grabbed a copy of To The Nameless Dead and liked it a lot. Cheers!

    Let's not forget "Death Metal" was actually used before Possessed. It was the title of a track on Onslaught's Power From Hell album released Feb 85. The UK wins again!

      At risk of coming across as a douche, I take issue with you saying UK, just say England. To hell with whatever the UK is. Onslaught are from England. England is a grand old nation that is not synonymous with the fucking UK. My little rant is now over.

    One question though: at the end you recommend listening to related references, 1st is Autopsy, but the 2nd I don‘t understand: sounds like „Artificial Reinhard“ / „Pea Gion Rhino“ or something like that? Please let me know!

    Imo all Death records are great except The Sound of Perseverance. Not that it is a bad record, on the contrary it is very good, but it is not really a Death record. Was supposed to be a Control Denied album. Besides that, good idea for next Call from the Grave would be Bolt Thrower.

  • @karlhaikara1629

    I only like the first 2 albums, never liked anything after those but the first two are truly great, however I actively hate the last couple ones they really dont do anything for me. Death probably wouldn't sound like they did without Possessed, Chuck even went and spent a lot of time with Jeff Beccera back in the day. However if we take lyrics as the definition you could potentially argue that Possessed were more black metal and Death was defining Death metal.

    Wait, there was actual controversy over Chuck's sexuality? I was literally a middle schooler on dial-up still getting into the underground, and as far as I recall, it was mostly just weird slander from the neckbeards at ANUS claiming he was gay and died of AIDS... literally all because the inverted cross creeped upwards?

    • @AlanAverillNemtheanga
      @AlanAverillNemtheanga  2 года назад

      it's not really relevant whatever Chuck's sexuality was, but there was certainly 'rumours'.....no big deal, look into it yourself if it's important to you!

      @@AlanAverillNemtheanga Yeah. I remember when I first discovered Death, I listened to all their albums in order on the same day. I was completely blown away and loved them all, especially TSOP (maybe because it was the last idk). With time, my favourite kept shifting but I guess the contrast between Chuck's and Andy's playing is what really gets me on ITP, along with the clarity and elasticity of Steve's bass. But I have to say that lyrically, Symbolic is the one for me. It's as angry and assertive as the others but it is so philosophically charged that I can't help but feel inspired by it.

      ITP was the first album of Death's that I heard and Overactive Imagination is my favourite song by them. Don't know what's my favourite album cos I thing they're all brilliant in their own way. Unbelievable discography! A Megadeth review would be great, so much to talk about.
