@@nicestrat Well, they are a well known band obviously, but to be fair their music should be played on the radio and TV more often. How often do we hear Pink Floyd and Metallica on the radio? They certainly don't give Cheap Trick half the attention they give those other bands I mentioned.

I always loved Bun E's look and demeanor: a depressed, chain-smoking insurance salesman who could also play the drums like there was no tomorrow. His drumming on "Budokan" is amazing.

The song works because the hook is so strong that, even during the unconventional chord changes of the verses/bridges, you're just anticipating that hook returning. When it finally does, you're like "Aaaaaaahhhh". Great song!!!

Still hard to believe this stalled at #41 in the US. It was played a lot on the radio in the Indianapolis area when I was a kid and on MTV. Great song. Underrated band!
@@larrycoker8093 That and a hell of a lot of competition. Cheap Trick in their prime yrs were basically ignored outside their fanbase. They wrote their own songs, played great LIVE performances had videos but still wasnt a household name. Again, the competition was really fierce. @FooBar Maximus never cracked the top 40 in the US... Record label didn't get behind this song at all. Radio wasn't playing it, at all. Cheap Trick tried to sue their label over royalties and lost badly. It set their entire career back, almost ruined them. Mtv played it because at that time in 1982, they would play anything to fill up 24 hours of video content. Thankfully, they did because if not, no one would know this song ever existed.
Yet in Australia it was a massive hit in 1982. It ruled the airwaves. Cheap Trick were very popular here. Surprised to hear their record company and radio in America didn’t support this song
Cheap Trick was my first unofficial concert back in June of 1984. I was celebrating my 14th birthday at Water World and they were performing at the Southern Star Ampitheatre next door at Astroworld. There was a ridiculous little three foot high cable fence separating the parks that you can simply walk over and security was pretty lax. Once we got into the crowds it was super easy to not get caught. Too bad we didn't get to stay til the end cause my mom was coming to pick us up!
I had this on vinyl... I loved it. But on MTV at my friends place at 3 AM this took on special meaning. I never saw this video until then. .. It blew my mind. I saw these guys four times.. What a band man. . Seriously..... thank you.
❤This Song!Saw them on that 82 Summer Tour, cause of MtV,back in da day, now!Good Times! With Aldo Nova as an Open act!Just a Fantasy!Cant ya See,what that Crazy life does to me!Yeah!Ha!
I'm so proud of my Midwestern brothers! Saw them many times in the mid-70s during my college days in Michigan. I graduated from college in 1979; Cheap Trick graduated to the stratosphere that same year. Will always love you guys! You're the best American band ever! xxooxx
Always loved this song. Sounds like The Beatles on steroids. 0:57 reminds me of a John Lennon type vocal. Song should have been a bigger hit than it was.
My friend and I saw Robin Zander sitting alone at a restaurant in Studio City. We were too freaked out to ‘bother’ him. God I wish we would have! That man is a Rock God! Gorgeous and that voice! One of the best in Rock.
One intriguing thing about Cheap Trick.... Early 1980's...MTV allowed us to actually see our favorite bands live besides going to a concert. So here you have the drummer, Bun E.,who looked like he could be my dad(at the time), lead guitar Rick with his whacky clothes and a million guitars, Robin king of front men, and the bass player Peterson. What an eclectic group of guys who can bang out killer tunes, Thumbs up CT!!
OdyBeRidin The shame is that if you put together a band like this today and tried to break into the pop music scene, the A and R guys at the label would immediately demand that Rick and Bun be replaced because they are not marketable and would not sell posters and lunchboxes because they are not "good-looking". Then, they would make over Robin and run his voice through an auto-tuner. Then, they would force feed them "formula" pop songs for an extremely narrow demographic and dump them after their second album. God I miss these days.
+Bob Kidd yea basically the truth be cause in the industry today you have writers and owners of musicthey need somebody to sell why all songs sound same musicaly
I'm with you! Same with me💗 I always felt like Cheap Trick was rock 'n roll's best kept secret Finally they were inducted into the Rock ',n Roll Hall of Fame I can't think of a more deserving band. Actually, Cheap Trick has transcended the definition of a "band. " They're an institution!!! Long live Cheap Trick #Lifetime fan💗
"Lonely is a place, you don't know what it's like...... there's a hole in my heart....". Oh, the pain of knowing the future. Really praying hard for you folks. Godspeed to Cheap Trick and all artists and what they go through to protect us all, and above all, thank you!
Brings back many memories from the 80's I remember back in High School. Instead of hearing the school bell to tells us when class starts/ends. They played music from the Scorpions, Ratt, Cheap Tricks, etc for 5 minutes through out the halls. How cool was that !!!!!!. There will never be other era like the 1980's . For the younger generations that listen to our music. A million thanks. Now go and buy the music. Please anyone build me a time machine, so I can go back and yes it will be a one way trip.
I became a fan of this band when I was only 4 years old, because of this song. It was the first song I heard of Cheap Trick, I think it's still such a beautiful song.
NinaFrancisca I was 10 it was Aug 16th 1977, night Elvis died, Cheap Trick opened for Kiss at SF Cow Palace I became an instant fan and have seen them many times over the years...food for my soul.
OMG, the set has a poltergeist! That song is so full of Rock vocalist Impersonations! Rick had to be listening to Slade when he wrote that chorus, and Zander at @2:25 is recreating Lennon & McCartney, not to mention the Choru8s vocal SCREAMS Noddy Holder all thru it! THAT TRACK SHOULD HAVE BEEN A No. 1 BILLBOARD HIT FOR THEM; NOT #40??!..
Have always loved Cheap Trick. I used to have an 8 track of their album Heaven Tonight, my very first by them. I had a huge crush on Robin back then, too. Great memories!
I've liked these dudes for sooo many years. This one has roots in Harrison's "As my guitar gently weeps"...i like the influence. I just miss Peterson..
Cheap Trick is in my Top 15 Bands I LOVE! I have seen them more in concert than anyone else & they R well worth it.... but miss drummer Bun-E Carlos. Missing you Bun-E
I've seen more cheap trick concerts than any other band, in the80's it seemed like they played every outdoor venue in south Florida. They always put on a great show.
I’m a teenager right now and man, you guys were lucky. There is nothing like the stories some of y’all are telling in the comments. I’d give anything to have something like that. Much love friends❤
I saw Cheap Trick on this tour. Considering where I lived in West Texas, Cheap Trick always performed there on tour, as they always drew such great crowds. And they always put on such great shows. Being a young but professional musician, through channels, hung out with them and their opening act, L.A. Guns, at their hotel bar after the show. Doing chemicals and things I shouldn't have been, but hell...it was the EIGHTIES! Just talking guitars with Rick Nielsen made it all worth it. Still cherish their music to this day, and will until the day I die.
I was born in "72 but I LOVE these guys! Something about hearing them as I was growing up just touches the soul.I heard them with their new music in the late 80's with "The Flame" and stuff but nothing compares to this here. This is just freakin rockin, chillin music!
Probably my all time favorite song. When I first saw it on MTV, I was utterly bewitched. I'd spend hours listening to Cheap Trick on vinyl with headphones on and the volume WAY up. I'd stare at Robin on the album cover and lose myself in the music. My youth would not have been the same without Cheap Trick bringing me so much joy with their phenomenal music! I used to watch MTV nonstop waiting for them to play, "If You Want My Love," again and again and again I love you Robin💗
This is my first time hearing this track. (Don't think they were as huge in the UK) It's epic... also has elements of the Beatles and ELO in it too, in my humble opinion. :)
I'm forever thankful to MTV for exposing me to a group like Cheap Trick. Growing up in Los Angeles it was literally RnB 24/7, then we moved to the Bay Area, and not knowing any of the radio stations I would listen to what my friends (Or the stoners at the park) listened to and discovered Cheap Trick. Everyone knew The Dream Police, I Want You To Want Me, and The Flame, but this song just woke me up and made me pay attention. Robin had a very unique and distinctive voice, the pitch and change in the course were brilliant, something a lot of singers would not be able to pull off. I would stay up all night waiting for MTV to play this video, more so because the damn radio stations in California weren't playing it...fucking disgrace. I had a radio DJ from KOME tell me it wasn't a national hit so they weren't playing it yet...
Robin Zander was and is a world-class, top tier vocalist. Hell of a powerful voice and grinding it out for 40 years now.
I have seen at least 50 performances Best vocalist ever.45 years.Better than ever. She Coming home Sgt Pepper

I adore Cheap Trick, especially this song!
I had this on vinyl... I loved it. But on MTV at my friends place at 3 AM this took on special meaning. I never saw this video until then. .. It blew my mind. I saw these guys four times.. What a band man. . Seriously..... thank you.
Fabulous!!!! What a wonderful voice!!! Magnificent band!!!!
Cheap trick, y'all made so many magical songs, we love your music always!!
My friend and I saw Robin Zander sitting alone at a restaurant in Studio City. We were too freaked out to ‘bother’ him. God I wish we would have! That man is a Rock God! Gorgeous and that voice! One of the best in Rock.
Looking so forward to seeing the boys in Sydney soon...love you Bernice xx
+Damon Briggs they to old to sell them self and fit the pop image
+Damon Briggs to sell it
That ain't Petersson.
Gawd I love him all over again. Darcy & Robin sitting in a tree! mwah!
Right!!!😀 That's how I feel!!
I've loved cheap trick since the first time I heard them.
I'm with you! Same with me💗
I always felt like Cheap Trick was rock 'n roll's best kept secret
Finally they were inducted into the Rock ',n Roll Hall of Fame
I can't think of a more deserving
band. Actually, Cheap Trick has transcended the definition of a "band. " They're an institution!!!
Long live Cheap Trick
#Lifetime fan💗
Yup after 43 years still great.
Wish I could find a woman that loves this great music like I do
Lol... i think they have to be trained...seriously
Me too.
MrSpawnlord I think I found a video about a part of this moment, sounds amazing! This moment must have been overwhelming.
今時のイケメンなんてメじゃないくらいの美青年達ですね。😮
こんなに素敵な人ばかりのグループは見た事ない。
My mom was Robin Zander’s biggest fan. Because of her I love them 😍.
Robin Zander is a rock legend.
I still love this band, 40 years later! Robin is my lifetime crush :)
You and me both, Leandra!
I love you Robin just as much as when I first saw you 39 years ago when I was 14!!!!💗
There is just something so innocent and sexy about him.
one of the best rock n roll voices all time...so underrated...takes me back to my childhood...love it
OMG, the set has a poltergeist!
Real rock'n'roll GEM and...nice tribute to the Beatles with the ooooooooooh (I saw Her Standing There)
The drummer has more swag than everyone that ever existed.
This is the Greatest Beatles Homage Ever !!!!!
Yeah but have you heard of ELO and Mr Blue Sky?
Many of you may roll your eyes at this but I will always be indebted to Joe Dirt for showing me this song
It had some absolute bangers on that film
I literally just finished the movie and here I am
@mattthomas3207 😅 me too I had to hear this after watching 👀 that masterpiece
It was literally the only and best song to end that movie. There was no better choice
🙄
Have always loved Cheap Trick. I used to have an 8 track of their album Heaven Tonight, my very first by them. I had a huge crush on Robin back then, too. Great memories!
What a beautiful song. And I never knew about it! Crazy..Thnx Joe Dirt for letting me in on this great music.
I’m nearly 21 and this song is so nostalgic to my childhood. Thank god for my family having good music taste
I've liked these dudes for sooo many years. This one has roots in Harrison's "As my guitar gently weeps"...i like the influence. I just miss Peterson..
very true about the song roots.
Cheap Trick is in my Top 15 Bands I LOVE! I have seen them more in concert than anyone else & they R well worth it.... but miss drummer Bun-E Carlos. Missing you Bun-E
Weird that this wasn’t a huge chart hit. It’s tremendous.
Me and my wife got married too this song in the year of 2000 March 25 and we love this group Big Time and I'm 54 and my wife is 56 okay
I've seen more cheap trick concerts than any other band, in the80's it seemed like they played every outdoor venue in south Florida. They always put on a great show.
Awesome song. Brings back so many memories.
Lennon would approve.
Oh hell yeah!!!!! Saaaavvvvyy baby! Cheers to all my fellow CHEAP TRICK fans out in the interweb
❤️❤️
I like that: Saaaaavvvvvy baby!
😀
@@classnsass2740 😁😁😁😁
I've always got a Beatles vibe from this song.....what a fantastic tune. This video makes me feel good even in this crazy world.
Yep
Yep and the verses have an ELO vibe. Lots of their deep tracks have a Beatles sound in them ,just love it
Thats exactly what I was thinking. Very Beatles influenced, which makes it a great song.
Listen to "While my guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles.
Yeah, I think it's the organ...I'm hearing a little of the 'I am the Walrus' when it plays
I'm crazy about this beautiful track! It's so amazing. Sending love to all who read this♥️
Denise 1982 smash hit
I want to go back to 1982
ted ritola yes, love Cheap Trick along with The Cars another epic band !
❤️❤️❤️
Probably my all time favorite song. When I first saw it on MTV, I was utterly bewitched. I'd spend hours listening to Cheap Trick on vinyl with headphones on and the volume WAY up. I'd stare at Robin on the album cover and lose myself in the music.
My youth would not have been the same without Cheap Trick bringing me so much joy with their phenomenal music!
I used to watch MTV nonstop waiting for them to play,
"If You Want My Love," again and again and again
I love you Robin💗
Great Beatlelike melodies.
While my guitar gently weeps...
The lead vocals are amazing!
the opening lazy guitar grabs you and then it's full throttle ... brilliant track
One of Cheap Tricks' Best Tunes. Thanks for this oldie upload.
The line starting “lonely is only a place...” is SO Beatlesque.
It echoes "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
This is my first time hearing this track. (Don't think they were as huge in the UK) It's epic... also has elements of the Beatles and ELO in it too, in my humble opinion. :)
Wonder where the nov20five is in this song 👊
最高!
産まれてきてよかった!!!
너무 멋진 곡.
이 노래로 cheap Trick과 더욱 사랑에 빠졌다.
뻔하지 않아서 늘 신선한 음악.
Robin의 목소리는 더욱 독보적이고..
