- Russ Augustin (AU Capital Management) joins Charles Morgan to talk about Morgan and Peace dollars and how the current hot market is impacting prices.
My Father-In-Law introduced me to coins. Gave us a half-complete book of American Silver Eagles. When he passed away I finished the book, and started buying rolls of 20 ASE's. Love them. I also collect Morgans, Peace dollars, and rounds. Also junk silver and some numistmatics. Love them all. Thanks dad, we love you and thank you for the introduction to coins.
I learn something new about coins every single day . It’s a great day to love coins .
What a great show! I've learned sooo much. I feel like I've been to college, which I guess I have. Thank you
both so much.
Perfect watch before bed thanks for the upload eagerly clicked to watch. Fantastic topics and detailed information. 👍😊
Why before bed?
Been buying Morgan's and Peace dollars since the 80's and never sold one. Most are nothing special but I've acquired thousands over the years. Mostly grabbed from pawn shops for decent prices, with a few real gems plucked from the pile. I probably only have 20 in slabs if that. I just love the loose coins.
Called and talked to Russell to purchase a couple Morgans. Great guy. Very helpful, coins showed up next day and a nice little touch, each slab was in a presentation case.
I've just started collecting coins again this year. It's something I liked as a kid but did not continue (to my regret). I'm getting a pretty good collection going and it is very fun
such a great show I've been Clinton coins and for a three and a half years now and I'm continuously learning and watching y'all shows and I just have one question I do have some probably I think 67 maybe 68 maybe 69 pennies that are never been touched still in there a little rappers my question is from 1960 to 1968 if I had one in immaculate condition what is the best year from 60 to 68 that I should look at
@@shannonlee4066 Clinton eh , lol splains the need to all our collection needs and have you a relative in banking system? 😂 JK/?
I'd say you have more then the price of copper price per lb in today's market of scrap material and less then that of the red cents or wheat cents the wheat if I'm correct is roughly $8-12.00 USD!
If I had to guess at what the 60-68's uncirc worth maybe few bucks but maybe less who knows ,it's worth the most to some one who NEEDS it to finish a book or series.
Thanx for doing this - useful information for collectors.
Crushed the like button! Excellent video and thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks very much for the video.
Very informative. I learned a lot from this, becoming a subscriber. Keep them coming!
Charles and Russ, Thanks for this candid conversation on the coins presented along with insight of current market. One tid bit keyword that stood out was Charles referring to a PCGS holder as "BLUE FADER". Keep pushing this term. Maybe it'll catch on. lol. Take care.
I've been calling it a blue fader for years. Reminds me of the 1990 Topps Baseball card border and I'm not a fan.

Who would have ever thought that 64 would be between 63&65?
PURE GENIUS 👍
I miss being able to buy rolls of silver $'s for $20. They quickly disapeared 1962-4. I never found a key date, but many nice BU commons, and some better such as: 91cc fine,27P XF, 86s AU. It was so much fun for a kid to be able to search the rolls.
This is awesome - thanks for taking the time
Good pm sir thanks for sharing god bless
THANG YOU .
Thank you for doing this video. I learned a lot about what to look for in Unc. Morgan and Peace dollars.
Great show gentlemen I would enjoy hearing you two beat up the Lincoln cent grading. The peace dollars don't get the love from the market that the Morgans enjoy. Thank you for going into the detail of the differences of two coins with the same grade and how they can vary vastly.
Amazing discussion. Thank you!
Very interesting update info is very important in this time of War. Thank U Guys
Thanks guys !! Very informative for me..
Charles makes a fair point that grades are sometimes a case of date by date and mint by mint. I remember the NGC or PCGS guy reasoned with him why the correct grade was one lower than he thought, was because it was a common date and mint Morgan. It was an eye popping moment for me that the guy was basically admitting that they will discriminate against a common coin, at least if it's right on the fence between a lower and higher grade.
20:14 I was looking at a 1880 CC Morgan Ms-64 pl CAC green bean that was up for auction in a Pcgs I believe it's a gen. 2.1 holder with no Vam designation, I started to look close and noticed it is a Vam 5 Die gouge Arrow feather, 8/7high
It wa s the first time I was able to identify a vam. I have only been collecting Morgan's for about 1.5 years now. And yes I won the auction. 😉. Great video gentlemen!
❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️
I had some Waite Raymond holder Morgan that were incredibly toned in IGC holders (who gave credit for 🌈 double sided toning long ago). A MS-64 legit IMHO correct grade went for $60.
Bot much? Lmao
Very long video, but so full of info. Had to watch again and still learning something.
Excellent talk, guys.
Started one coin per year in 1986 eventually added a few extras per year for birthday, graduations, marriages
Retirements etc. These days pre-order tube of coins. Interesting transition.
Why are the 1880 Morgans not mentioned? I was hoping to learn a little more about my 1880 O. Thank you both for the video. There's no such thing as too much information, and there's always something to learn from another's point of view. Especially in a hobby where values are based on subjective opinions.
Ahh coffee cup... Damn lazies in Nah-lins.
'80-Os were typically weakly struck like other New Orleans Morgans, they are harder to find in the higher grades, I've got a ~MS60/61 example. If yours is higher than that it's worth a decent bit.
In 2018 I purchased some bulk Indian half and quarter eagles as they were so near the price of melt value. I remember the gold and silver investors were depressed. Kinda like now.
Do one of these annually so that the prices are up to dat - wouldn't that be a pretty good idea? With some variability on which Morgans you look at!
Hello, is it better in value to leave an uncirculated roll of 1880 Morgan cc silver dollars whole or open it and grade each individual coin?
Great Show Gentlemen!
I learned alot, wow thanks. I'd like to hear more about Sms and the actual frosty cameo look like on our most recent Kennedy's vs what is available on 64-70...I had no idea they were on the 64-71 coins. But they have them for 65-1000.00 on eBay..And I've seen some pop up and figured it was just hype. Due to my confusion on what Sms really is. Maybe that is not discussion worthy and can be explained in a few minutes. But I'm new and cant seem to simply read up on it..Has to be more to it.
For somebody new into Morgan's what's a better price guide the red book or the gray sheet at this point I would only care to do one
Wondering if the toning on the 1902 -O in MS64, could've been cause by heat from a fire?
This was great. Can you set up the same format with half dollars?
Love the peace dollars, getting pricey but 💵💵💵💵. I Have a nice golden toned 1925-p, 👍
That was a fire 🔥🔥
I once took a Ben Franklin half dollar to a dirty Santa party. It was worth about $5 or $6 at the time. They all fought over that coin and there were some nice more expensive gifts given up for it. They all thought it was worth a ton of money because it was silver and old. I never told them what it was really worth.
Where do you go to get the first box of coins, order them or get them from you bank?
very conditions and thanks
supply and demand has a MAJOR factor so there is no set price for any one coin its kind of like the lottery when you market the coin...and keeping track of the coin market. As far as saying that people who want advise on a "kitchen drawer" coin I am sure there are a lot of those but there are those that have saved their change for years and those coins haven't been circulated or circulated very little. I have coins that I have been saving for over 25 years and are in mint condition
That NGC High Relief Peace Dollar is nice MS-64. The other one looks MS-62.
Thank you, for example, a fun episode that talks about everything. Could you sell some rare silver coins? US dollar morgan Tank you
I have a 2020 salt river bay quarter with no limbs or roots on the tree. Was wondering if I could send a pic and maybe you could fill me in on any info about it? Ty
I get a lot of 1921 Morgans , They are 90 Percent Silver and Some get up into the 40.00 range or More . It's a Great time for youngsters to Learn Numismatics , Thanks very much for the video. :) QC
Love it
He said the factory that makes money
Constitution says Congress shall mint coin
The only legal money FYI
53:30 I do not know what you meant "struck by an earlier die strike." Is that supposed to be a stronger strike? More polish? Sorry, I'm a new collector.
not worn out dies naturally yield prettier stamped coins. It's easily understandable.
Excellent Video...But you Skipped the 1880 "S" Morgan Dollar....I'm Curious Why?....
I’m like the people who call
you. I have a collection of coins that was passed down. I offered to find someone to buy them. Now I don’t know what to do. LoL
I have a 1921 solid silver dollar I wonder how much it is worth in premium condition
1:01:00 I hear you skipping 1880 S??
At 36:25 he says, "Move over 'Mex Mel'" - what?
We had a firm and some of our silver dollars got damaged . Some black. What should we do with them??
A fire 🔥
I want to start, do people go to the bank to get some?
I like th pcgs 1881cc as it's prooflike with slight Cameo...
I am new to the stock market. Every stock that I bought so far, I was out of luck because I bought them when they were expensive. I feel I missed out on all the stock opportunities so far for the tech stocks.I believe having 75K yearly income would be a good investment so I want to plug all my savings into the stock market. I know this sounds a bit dull but I would like to know if I should learn investing or let somebody else (more capable like a FA) do it for me? Please share your thoughts. I am kind of tired of searching for a good stock to buy and losing all the good opportunities
Buy low, sell high. That's the basic rule. You need to sit patiently and wait. Never push it. Now the stock market is still low, but its 20% off the bottom. Not bad. Plenty of stocks have room to double and triple. Isn't that good enough profit? Don't worry about missing the exact bottom.
Why are the 2 silver dollars different colors
i just received uncirculated 2023 coins should i open the rolls
You guys talk about the amount of coins graded in a certain year and mint let’s not forget about the guys that get grades that wanted a higher graded and cracked them out I know quite a few dealers who’ve don’t that some times 6 times so those numbers are inflated if you really think about it
You know the difference between patanation from toning ,about 100 dollers 🥴
1977 quarter has double stamp on the front and no mint mark
On the contrary, speaking to what Charles said about the 1879-S, why even distinguish between 64 and 65 if the grading narrative changes when mentioning graded pop? Charles asks, does a coin become less gemmy do to the large number of graded specimen? My answer would be, why even grade coins? The desirability certainly goes down which is reflected by the price however, grading a coin is a strict indication of value. You can't change a grade because of a large pop these grading rules are in place to give people undeniable certainty, not to be minced by a skewed narrative. The grade is the grade.
I tried to ask a nuanced question. Maybe I can better explain it. The market for certified coins depends heavily on scarcity and condition. On the condition side, we agree that in theory we are trying to carry over the same or a very similar standard from issue to issue. The reality is some dates and mints are struck at a quality far better or far worse than others. An MS65 New Orleans issue that comes dull and flatly struck will not hold a candle to a MS65 1879-S Morgan- in most cases. If you review enough of these two types of coins you will see what I'm talking about. In the case of an issue that is struck at a high quality level, what happens when tens of thousands of coins grade MS66, MS67, and a few hundred at MS68. Does the MS65 feel "gemmy" to the buyer? That is what I'm asking.
@@coinweek I see now what you are saying. Yes, the strike quality that varies among different years and the separation of MS-65 to a 66 or 67 grade. I may have been quick to judge and took what you said out of context, I apologize and thanks for clarifying.
It's no problem. I saw your comment as a genuine point and I thank you for making it.
Hello I have alot of coin with errors such as Susan B Anthony dollar
Have some coins
Think they are valuable but not sure how do I find out
Hi a have a 1885 Morgan with the O mint mark
Jerry Garcia interviews Bill Belichick!
About 1898 Morgan dollar how much this year
Like a teenagers face, horrible. When Russ said this a bit of coffee shot out my nose. I might just steal that line.
Price is what you pay -- value is what you get. If you pay a premium over the fair value, then you're playing from behind. Doesn't matter if we're talking about culls or MS-69 with CAC. Saying the price "doesn't matter" is what I'd *EXPECT* to hear from a dealer. smh Shout out to Coinhelpyou on RUclips for posting a hit piece video about me saying buyers should do their own research so they don't get scammed buying types of coins they do not have the knowledge to understand their true value. Dealers always want you to be in the dark and rely on them to set the price. To heck with that. Do your own research. Never rely on someone else to set the price and tell you what you should buy with YOUR money.
I have no money but I used a credit card to pay for 3 notes and 12 coins they are not worth anything and to spend them. I have a Morgan silver dollar I have had for 64 years in a locked box. I never took it out till last year.PCGS said it had been cleaned. I swear to God it was not touched for 64 years. My stepdad gave it to me when I was 13 I am now 77 it’s a very nice coin no wear on it. But they said cleaned and a low grade like all of them but a couple. The silver dollar is a 1921.They are all displayed on eBay.
Come on boys u can see from a mile away that pcgs coin has been dipped and doesn’t deserve that grade. This is the frustrating thing with “grading”
What is this dipping he keeps referring to? Dipping in what? And i thought cleaning a coin was a BIG NO NO! So if the 5-6 coins he says were dipped then how did they end up in holders if they have been cleaned?
1878CC... you mention the broken toning on the cheek but you don't even mention the giant black burn mark on the right side? How can that not be relevant? That stuff confuses me so much. You are worried about the minor and you ignore the major? So confusing.
I went to a new lcs for the first time and the dealers wife tended to me. I think she gave me the prices that they pay customers but I didn’t say anything. I picked up 41, pre 21 Morgan dollars for $500
I have two like dollars 1971 s they are silver
whaa
Dontcha just hate when people clean or polish coins and then deny that they did any7thing to the coin? The brush marks are there for anyone to see... or the chemical smell is still on the coin... jeez, why can't people leave the darned things alone? I wonder how many thousands of dollars damage people have done to priceless coins doing that? Old brass or bronze art is the same way... leave it alone. Just saying,.
Most simply don't know any better. It's not like numismatics are a massive hobby. I cleaned my first dollars as a kid in the 80's. 🤷♂️
I heave 1 dollar 1883cc for sale.
the O mints are falling 6 months later
Ola soy celina ramos colección por fabor espanol tengo diferentes de esas monedas me estan robando por fabor alluda tengo un ijo adictibo y me esta rbando aluda por favor gracias
the grading of the coins. has killed the fun in collecting. people want to keep the big money for themselves. So I am going to quit. people have a stroy of the coins. but now its all about how nice the coin is. the coin is the same. but the old timers . well some of them got the money and they keep it. greed has destroyed the circle of money that made it fun. sad now
