These early X300 XJRs are absolutely superb and a personal dream car. I’d like to point out that the specification of this car is NOT common. The interior came as standard with a black / dark grey upper contrast on the door cards, dash & centre console. As far as I’m aware, not many were optioned as yours is. Additionally, the ‘XJR Supercharged’ text on the veneer was DEFINITELY not standard and an extra I’ve never seen. Safe to say this car is special, increasingly with the HK sound & the wood / leather wheel.
Please do take care of it (as I’m sure you will) there are virtually none of these early S/C 6 cars left.

It's specced more like a US XJR with the walnut trim option, wood etd. You are right about the XJR Supercharged script. Must've been a special order. Usually these Sport interiors are shot by 80,000 miles so I wonder if it had a switch out at some point. Carnival Red is a fantastic colour for it. Easily worth 6-7k in the classic classifieds. More if it had sub 80k mileage. GReat car though and hopingit doesn't get ruined. I've got the XJ12 of that era.
I don't want to be a party ruiner, but this branch of comments reveals more and more bets on... how you lot say, "yanked from the Nicks". Or a Japan job, if the steering wasn't thrown over.

I'm amazed how cheap this was for the condition and even the full tool box... The wheels, suspension and tyres would be close to 2k maybe 3k alone
I have to say, this channel is easily one of my fav cars channel on youtube. I was skeptical on how alex would do on a separate channel but boy has he delivered and even surpassed other channels in my list.

I love this rivalry. Good fun guys and what a solid buy Alex. That is a lovely old lady who while appearing sedate and stately will jump you in a dark alley and steal your pocket money! Now, just get her on a diet and shed a thousand pounds and put in a manual transmission.

yeah, esp compared to the XKR at the wheels horsepower; I figure the transmission used on the older straight six (I assume a 4 speed?) was actually a lot less lossy than the mercedes 5 speed on the x100 xkr.

Car throttles in the bin I think Alex made those with his character and the boss of car throttle wasn’t having it that’s why they toned him down in those but he can’t be tamed so made his own channel which will take over that crap in time 🎉

Loving the channel Alex and Taylor. My Dad used to have a XJR6 in navy with cream leather. Wasnt the biggest fan at first but my option changed when he took me on our first road trip from the Scottish Borders to the Glen's of Antrim. Travelling in absolute comfort, whisking the miles away but best of all, the old man flicking the switch to sports mode and over taking everything in its path. Thirsty old brut but definitely worth the smiles per gallon. Seeing the bonnet lift up when accelerating, hearing the whine of that supercharger and me grinning at every car we over took. I wished my dad kept it but unfortunate circumstances he had to let it go. Hope yous have as much fun as I have great memories of the XJR6. Real villains cars but that's why I love it!
Taylor, Alex and Rory are my favorite set of triplets! I love, love, love the dynamic, and I hope it continues for ages! :)

Hi Alex great show! I've been the proud owner of one of the non-supercharged versions for about 16 years now, it's interesting they appeared to have bottomed out and are on the rise as the X300 was only available for 3 or so years and is proving exceptionally reliable. When it comes to heat, it was a coolant sensor on mine about a $30 AUD part so nothing really, it has a different sensor for the gauge, which is nearly adjacent to it and also cheap to change. We swapped my radiator for a double fan one and the car runs cold most of the time now with no dramas at all. If you are keen to tune it there are verified stories of over 570 bhp and 700 nm coming out the engine, there is also a cheap easy very quick upgrade originally designed by the man who helped create the motor which really helps the car come alive. In Australia the rust issue is non-existent so the only issue we have is the fact that Jaguar clearly saved money on the wiring, its not insulated anywhere near as well as it should be, I've slowly started replacing it and the car feels better than it ever did. A V70R for 1500 is absolutely amazing. During my 3 year EVO V build I drove the hell out of a lightly modded one and it absolutely loved it. The guy I sold it to still daily drives it and hasn’t had any issues
I went to a car auction with my two young sons. People were bidding on a car that came through the doors. My son asked me where the loos were so I pointed at the bogs and put a £2500 bid on a Citroen picasso. I promptly waved like mad at the auctioneer who then stopped the auction and put the bid back to the previous winner. Close call! 🙈
We were only after a small £100 car to use around a field! 😂
Alex, I really enjoyed how you fell under the spell that the XJR6 has on certain people like me, even down the the thing I always say: LOOOK AT THE BIG RED LETTERS XJR6 SUPERCHARGED ON THE ENGINE. I'm now on my 8th XJR6 and maintain the statement these are a very special Jaguar. There is more to the story though, the holy grail, the XJR6 with a manual gearbox. I have one of these myself now and it's a completely different animal. I know Drivetribe are already doing a manual swap on the XKR which is amazing, but I urge you to consider converting your car to manual. It's clearly a solid and well looked-after example so would be a good candidate for changing the drivetrain. I have a feeling your would absolutely love the thug of a car the X306 becomes when the slushbox auto is removed in favour of the racing GT tractor Getrag 290 manual with it's industrial grade gearchange and clutch!

That XJR is just beautiful. Lovely condition and colour. Although it shows that it is a 90s luxobarge, it's just really lovely and a perfect easy going car to cruise around in.

I did a mot check on the jag (as I'm sure you did alex) and it's not only had near to no miles for years but only ever failed on minor things like washer fluid and the actual big problems it had have all been fixed. The coils as mentioned by taylor must have all been replaced as was 1 of the issues
Only other similar large straight six I can think of is the Barra. They considered a supercharger, but went with turbo's.

I've had a 3.2 and a 4.0 XJ, lived them dearly. I could never stretch to the XJR and now, with fuel prices, I probably never will. Can't wait to see more of this.
Also, they're the easiest cars in the world to replace head gaskets on 👌

My brother in England, get yourself to Australia and drive a cuttla falcons. 4L i6 since the 70s, with the only changes being reverse flow to crossflow, then SOHC and then a final change to DOHC. We also added a turbo for fun. Drive yourself an OHC AU, an NA DOHC BA-FG and then a turbo DOHC BA-FG, and you'll be blown away by the drivability.
Back in Australia the last FG 4 litre straight six Ford Falcon turbos made just shy of 500hp. Plenty of old turbo Falcons around with hundreds of thousands of kilometers and thrashed for years and lived through it all.

With regards to the Drivetribe XKR, they should check the slack on the throttle cable. Over time they stretch and the result is that when you floor it, you’re only getting like 80 or 70% of throttle instead of 100% at WOT. Which would explain the 90 escaped horses.

I have to put this out there, the Jaguar XJR X306 is probably the best XJ they ever made. Just the view under the bonnet is glorious, and it is in my top 3 dream car garage because I am a sad old woman who fell in love with a car that stopped being made when I was ten years old.
Oh that is awesome. I have a manual 1995 XJR and yours is much cleaner than mine was when I first picked it up. You are missing a front undertray, but that seems to be typical once these cars reach this age.

i had one of these in BRG sitting on 19inch BBS wheels. It was epic until the head gasket went in a tunnel in Switzerland and i was stranded. I fixed it at great expense and sold it within a month. Massive regrets. Wish I still had it, best car I've ever owned. Good luck with yours.

Love the Jaguar XJ 300. One of the best looking 4 door saloons of all time.
From a styling perspective I actually prefer the X306 over the updated X308. I personally think the more squared off bumper and interior trim fits the overall design of the car better than the more rounded bumpers and interior trim. Same goes for the factory wheels on the XJRs, the X306 monoblock styled wheels suit the car better than the X308's multispoke wheels. Overall the updated X308 just looks cheaper to me. Unfortunately here in the States the X306 XJRs are harder to find than the X308 XJRs.

In case you wanted to know of another 4L straight six, Australian Ford Falcons, the later ones had a Gt3582rl hanging off the side for all the turbo noises. Barra turbo swaps have gone in everything over here ever since they were released.
I’m pretty certain that that jag is the best car Alex has ever bought and probably the best car he’s ever owned too. What a beautiful car. I wouldn’t be surprised if the car was sold by a disgruntled ex in auction for the value their spouse told them they spent on it. Or if the original owner unfortunately wasn’t the one who sold it but someone unfamiliar with cars. If it didn’t have a ding and no thermostat and gauge issues, it could’ve possibly even be listed at 3x the price where jag enthusiasts and other old luxury car enthusiasts would bite.
Since the guy owns a *body shop,* you're looking for faults in the wrong place. VIN plates (and welding of the panels, holding them) is the key location for solving the "how come we got it so cheap?" case.
But paranoics aside, if you really like the sound of the intake, you should run a hose from the filter box, to one of the heater outlets (preferrably one, that closes) and have yourself a live orchestra on demand, without losing the tranquility outside ;)

that jag is an utter bargin buy, what a gem bet he got fed up of listing it or lost his unit so no place to keep it. My uncle had a pal met light blue one from new as a company car (went into jag alot for repairs) fast as fudge when you were 14

Alex what can I say, I thought you made a mistake at first going on your own, boy was I wrong, hands down this is the best RUclips car channel by far, I love how the cars you're into are attainable by the normal person and not million pound supercars, my daily driver is a 21 year old Volkswagen Golf V5 that I bought for £500, I love cars of this era and its a pleasure to drive, i would much rather have something like this than a £400 pound a month financed soulless machine.
