The Open Beta version of Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) 2.5 is a free-to-play digital battlefield game. The “release” version will be available shortly after Open Beta testing is complete. The Open Beta is an optional version of DCS World that we use to first test new content and technologies before moving them to our release version.
Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional 25 aircraft are available for purchase.
The download comes with one of the most powerful mission editors ever designed, full network play and more than 156 AI weapons systems, 105 ground vehicles and trains, 50 air defense systems, 19 ships and 84 AI aircraft permitting you to plan and play highly sophisticated missions. DCS World is massively extensible through additional DCS modules as well as user-made add-ons and mods which you can purchase and download from our site.
DCS is a true "sandbox" simulation that is also designed to cover multiple time periods of interest such as WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War and others. Current regions to battle include the Caucasus, Nevada Test and Training Range, and Normandy 1944. New maps in development include the Persian Gulf, Syria, Afghanistan, and others.
DCS World is fundamentally a deep, authentic and realistic simulation game designed also to offer a more relaxed gameplay to suit the user and his particular level of experience and training. The ambition is to hand hold users from novice pilot all the way to the most advanced and sophisticated operator of such complex weapons systems as the A-10C Warthog or the F/A-18C Hornet. The only next step is the real thing!

su-27 flanker was the first. Vector graphics....I still have original box and CD with huge red star on it.
This video almost brought a tear to my eye. I've been flying with Eagle Dynamics since Lock On: Modern Air Combat. The first sim to really get me up into the virtual air. Since then DCS has truly become a world of many wonderfully integrated simulations. Thank you Eagle Dynamics! You have brought us the best combat flight sim. Ever.

This video really is something special, it moved me. The music choice, the production, the edition, the visuals, everything. Consider doing trailers for future DCS products with more videos like this in the future, grand music like this really does help make otherwise standard-looking simulator footage become inspiring and thrilling, and connect better with the viewer. It has worked wonders for Ace Combat (an entirely different genre, I know) for years and works amazingly for DCS.
Thank you ED for reuniting the community and making the greatest flightsim of all time. I've been with you since Lomac and ill hope to still be here 20 years from now. Heres to many many many more great years of ED!❤

Eagle Dynamics: Digital Combat Simulator grippen please. Lockheed and skunk will never give you avionics fully. You'll have to fudge. Saab don't care. Same with BAE. Typhoon and gripen could happen. Hoop jump for next 30 years to get the skunk jets .
Been playing ED games since Flanker 2.0 and this video just proves how professional and dedicated the staff and developers are to their fans and playerbase since 1996. Rock on ED, you guys are without a doubt the best air combat simulator creators to date!

I remember playing the Flanker 2.5 simulator. Years have passed and now DCS World 2.5 is the best simulator of the battlefield in the air and on the ground.

It's insane to think how far flight simulators have come. I remember playing all the way back to Flanker 2.5 back in the day, then LO:MAC, LO:FC (1,2 & 3).... Black Shark, the A-10C and many modules since then. Very well done ED, you guys are really knocking it out the park, and with the F-18 it's only going to get better. Looks absolutely STUNNING. Those new ground impact effects make the ground pounder in me more than a little giddy :).
My first flight sim was MiG Ally Ace on the Mac; amazing how far the genre has advanced
My very first flight sim, was an old DOS game called Sturmovik. You actually flew a Su-25, I was about 6 and didn't even know what to do but I enjoyed taking off and blowing up my own airbase lol.

I first played a flight sim on the ZX spectrum in about 1987. Mountains didn't display, you just died under the minimum altitude. The only ground features were lakes and the runways. I played the 16-bit classics like F-19, then onto F-22 and Falcon 3, 4.0 and the realism mods. I haven't played a proper flight sim for years, but what I just watched blew me away. The progress that has been made in 30 years. Wow, just wow. I'm going and buying a flightstick.
Really looking forward to join the simulation DCS! Nice work done with the video, it feels much more than a game ...it's an emotion...Respect and kudos to all the brilliant pilots and fighters out there...waiting to join u guys in the air..! Don't take off till I get there brothers! 😊

Safety Steve if it's GA you desire, you're in luck. The first module is already in development, the Christen Eagle. I like fast and dangerous aircraft myself, but I'm more than happy to see more variety in DCS if it allows more people to get involved and enjoy this wonderful sim.

The L-39 is already purchasable, I appreciate it's a military trainer primarily, but it's also incredibly common in private hands and can be flown as such in DCS.
I'm hoping that we'll see some GA aircraft at some point, however I'd really love to see a good C-130 simulation in DCS or a mule-crew bomber.
A B1b would be awesomer-er. As for GA... General aviation. I:E civilian aircraft.
Well done! My mates, and I started with MS Combat Flight Simulator 1 in 1998. Our group currently is using IL-2 1946. Seeing this excellent video, has jump started my curious side, and made me realize how far it's come! Fantastic! We're going to continue watching this closely as it develops! Cheers!
