    Common error is that most people think the FC3 Jets have a simpler flight model than the big ticket modules! They don't! They only thing is they don;t have clickable cockpits and the 3d modelling of these planes is of lower quality as they were the original planes available in the game when it launched as Lockon Modern Air Combat in 2004! But the flight models have been updated and are of professional standard.

I don't make videos anymore but this is definitely something I realized a while back, because I feel like I could've succeeded pretty well if I picked a category and stuck to it.

    I have tried out both steam and standalone and ngl I prefer steam then it comes to out of game stuff like downloading, on SA it can take a couple of hours to a day before I can download a update bc I live in a different continent vs steam where the update is downloaded in 2 hours of it announcement.
    I have a low end pc & I dont have alot of hard drive space so I delete some maps/modules for SA I wait 2 min to get into the game go to the mod manager then select what I want to delete then exist vs steam less then 30 seconds of selecting and 'updating' your game.
    Probably not important to some but tracking how long you have been playing, I know there is a logbook in game but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't it only record flight hours not in-game hours.
    But of course this really applies to people that has low end pc's and live in countrys that are far away from popular continents but if you have THE pc plus you live in north America/the EU SA is the way to go but for others probably want to consider steam also you get a 50% off as a new player for your first purchase on the website/standalone.
    By a steam user.
    Also if you play on 1080p don't up grade your monitor for DCS, in multi/single-player if you go max fov you can hunt for black pixels(jets) in the sky from 50+ nautical miles or 92km+ and in dogfights if you lost sight of your enemy just max out your fov and start searching for black pixels plus good news your eye can easily detect something moving.

      Hey, I'm sorry it took me so long to see this comment.
      I think it's definitely worth trying out with your current setup and seeing if it's good enough for you for the time being. It's free so it can't hurt to try it out. If it doesn't run well, you can either figure out what parts of your pc are lacking and replace them with newer ones or just get a whole new setup.
      Eagle Dynamics added a "multithreading" launch option to DCS which makes it use your CPU way more efficiently and can give you way better performance.
      This guy has a tutorial showing how to do it on the standalone version: ruclips.net/user/shorts9iSplDshRgM?feature=share

    Helo mister!
    I've played with FC3 for some time now and I like the manual aspect of su-25 on cold war servers
    What do you recommend in terms of maps? Also I'm looking into air to air jets, f-5, mig-21 mirage (dont know which one yet) for cold war server. Any recommendations there as well?

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug  Год назад +1

      Hi!
      If you're looking for cold war servers, I recommend the Syria map, as that's the one Enigma's Cold War Server runs (and Enigma's Cold War server is the best one I've seen). The server has a dynamic campaign with PvP and PvE, and there's an Overlord bot, so you can use your mic ingame and talk to the AWACS and get accurate callouts (which is vital in a cold war server because most onboard radars only work short range).
      I haven't used the F-5, but I've used the MiG-21 and the Mirage F-1 a little bit. I can't remember how exactly it works, but I think Enigma's server is set up where you have to earn points by destroying stuff before you can spawn in a Mirage, but the MiG-21 and F-5 can be used right away, so for that reason I'd suggest the MiG-21 or F-5. If you think the Mirage seems cool, you should definitely check it out too, but I'm not sure if it would be the best first A2A aircraft for cold war servers.
      The MiG-21 is pretty difficult to learn, but once you figure it out it's super satisfying to use, and it even has two nukes you can use (most servers ban players for it, but some don't and you can use them offline too). I've had the most fun with the MiG, but I also haven't used the Mirage that much yet so I can't really give a good recommendation there.
      You can do multiple free trials at the same time, so if you wanted you could try Syria and all three aircraft at the same time and decide which you'd like more.
      I hope this was helpful, and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

    Are the low ones the ai only planes? (B52H, TU-22M3, SU-24, and so on)

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug  Год назад

      I think medium fidelity is definitely a more accurate way of describing FC3 aircraft since they have good flight models but non-clickable cockpits, so that's my bad with calling them low fidelity.
      As for the AI ones, I'm not sure what they'd be considered. I think they could be described as low fidelity as you said just because they flight models are pretty far from realistic on them and they can't be controlled by players, but I think people generally don't refer to them as that and just call them AI-only modules or something along those lines

    • @ChickentNug

    How important is head tracking? Been looking at some of the head tracking equipment and its a bit out of my budget.

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug  Год назад

      Sorry for the late reply, I saw this comment last week and thought I replied already but I guess not.
      It isn't SUPER important if you're learning the basics of how to fly the aircraft ingame and stuff, so I honestly don't think you would need to get it up front unless you know for sure you want to get into DCS.
      If you like the game and start doing full missions and stuff, it is really useful for dogfighting and BVR and is pretty useful for ground attack as well since you can keep your eyes on the area you're orbiting/passing and stuff.
      So I guess if you like DCS enough that you're alright with spending the money on head tracking stuff, I think you should go for it. TrackIR is awesome and adds a ton to the game.
      If you aren't really sure if it's just going to be one of the games that you check out a few times and never pick up again, it might not be worth it, since I think TrackIR can be between $100-200.
      It was definitely worth it for me since I'm a nerd and really like DCS, but I don't think it's necessarily worth it for everyone. The absolute most important thing is to get a hotas or at least an xbox controller because keyboard and mouse is ass in DCS. It is extremely difficult to make just that work for controlling the aircraft, and it's a lot more manageable to reach over to use the mouse to look around. Definitely inconvenient but it works if you don't really want to drop a couple hundred bucks on head tracking stuff

    Downloaded the Heli free trial , can't lift the bloody thing off the ground 😵‍💫

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug  Год назад +1

      It takes a lot of time to figure out, so don't give up.
      Just making sure, what plane are you starting? You need to make sure you press *right shift* and L, not left shift. If you are using the SU-25T, this should start the electrical power. It has been a while since I have flown it so I can't remember for sure, but I think you need to start both engines individually with right ctrl + home and right shift + home (could be right alt + home).
      If none of that helps, try pressing left Windows key + home, and that should make the game do an "autostart sequence" that'll take the steps necessary to make the aircraft flyable. Make sure you give it enough time to power up and not move right away.
      I strongly suggest starting out using the SU-25T and not helicopters (yet) or the TF-51, since they are modeled way more complexly than the frogfoot is. You can't click any cockpit buttons with the cursor in the frogfoot, but there are preset keybinds that make it possible to do everything you need to. You can either check the keybinds out in the settings or look up some more in-depth tutorials on youtube that should show exactly what you need to press and in what order.
      Just don't give up and ask any questions you have. I might not have the best answers always, but I'm more than happy to help haha

    • @ChickentNug
      @ChickentNug  Год назад

      I forgot to mention, you absolutely can start with the helicopters, but it will give you a much harder time to figure out how everything works in the sim. Even if you just spend an hour or two flying the frogfoot and you get to the point where you feel like you're ready to move on to something more interesting or complex, then you can move on to the helis. They are very difficult to learn even for people who have a lot of time in DCS, though, so don't be disappointed if you blow up a few dozen times before you leave the ground haha

      To get a terrain for free it's the same as the free trials for aircraft on Eagle Dynamics' website. Pretty big, depending on how many dlc you download. Steam recommends having 140gb of free space on your hard drive to download it

    so disappointed you missed the opportunity to say "once you feel comfortable head over to multiplayer and the perfect server to join would be the growling sidewinder server"

      I've actually never tried the GS server. I still spend most of my time offline so I don't really know the best ones for beginners haha
      Thanks for the feedback though, and I'll be sure to check that one out myself

      @@ChickentNug lol gs is rough definitely not a good place for beginners but at the same time there’s lots of people doing funny stuff that’s why I said that but it’s a lot of pvp and it’s almost always full so it can definitely be pretty fun but it’s kinda just a cluster most of the time
