So nice of Kristy to offer to help with identifying the plants. Make a chart and write it down for next spring. It will be great info. Sounds like it’s a garden that will constantly have something blooming which will be very pretty.

In my experience, I've found that just having a good tidy up first then standing back to think about what you want to keep and what needs to go helps. Tidying makes things look better and makes any future project less overwhelming Jenn. And you can't get it all done at once so try to enjoy the process, you'll have a great time pottering around your garden 🌻

Crocus are the white and purple ones. You can try eating/using local honey for allergies. I think because the bees use the pollen in the local area, it helps you acculmate to the pollen in that area.

Hey Jenn! What a great video! I love experiencing Spring in NC with you!
I just want to let you know, hanging baskets are overfilled with plants so that they look full and beautiful. But they're isntvenough room in there for all of the roots to extend and grow so that they can thrive. So the fact that you haven't had much luck with hanging baskets doesn't reflect your gardening skill! You are going to be great at it!

  • @EsmeGrubb
    @EsmeGrubb 6 месяцев назад +7

Jen, if there is a nursery near there, the plants they have will be the ones that grow in that area. So go there. They'll be able to answer questions for you.
Annuals are plants that only grow a short time. Perennials are plants that continue to grow all the time. Some plants lose their leaves (. ). and some won't. I imagine there will be a lot of pine type trees and shrubs available there. They are super easy to maintain.
You may need to provide a source of water for the plants. If you can afford it, get automatic sprinklers. They save a lot of work. But I had just a hose with various sprayers on it for many years. They are cheaper and work fine.
Gardening is one of the most fun things you can do in life. It gives one exercise and calms the soul.

I live in Pennsylvania and I have allergies all year round. I like perennials. My shrubs and trees loose their leaves but come back the next year. I love the beauty of my yard but not the work. Hanging baskets are beautiful to put around or hang. Good luck! Have a wonderful day! Also mulching makes the yard very pretty. We do mulch. ❤❤

I grew up in Denver but I moved south of Houston 4 years ago, and I'm still AMAZED by spring down here, so I totally understand your enthusiasm! This year, I'm in a different apartment complex with even more plant life than my last place, and everything got green SO FAST it blew my mind!

You are good with graphics so draw the garden out on paper like I did and then you can divide up the garden to do sections at a time. You can then decide on entertaining areas and flower beds. Ornamental grasses are good low maintenance! Enjoy its good therapy.

  • @rubydoo2694
    @rubydoo2694 6 месяцев назад +4

    Hey, first time commenting here.
That darker green jaggedy looking thing you asked if its a weed, its a dandelion. To get rid of it good, you need to fully dig the root out or kill the root at least, as they will keep coming back and the puffball they produce spread seeds very easily.
The one after this that you asked if it was also a weed with the lighter long green leaves, it isn't, so save that. The white flowers and the barney flowers are crocus from what I see. You can get them in lots of different colours, and they look like they grow well where you are, so maybe plant some more bulbs of those to come up next year! Maybe try some tulip bulbs and some more daffodil bulbs also.
If you're looking to try growing any veggies, try the square foot gardening method...there's tons of info online and its pretty cheap and easy to do, plus free healthy food lol
Or just start off with a little herb garden! I bought "living herbs" from the supermarket on clearance and replanted them and they flourished. I've also bought the cut fresh ones from aldi super cheap and put them in a bottle of water to root out, then planted them and they did really good.
    Hope this helps x

If you are wanting to garden but have knee trouble you can look into raised gardens I have a knee issue as well and took up raised gardening. I got storage bins , drilled some drainage holes and set the up on concrete blocks to give them some height then filled with raised garden soil and got some vegetable plsnts. I ve grown corn, tomatoes, zucchini just to name a few including potatoes in buckets. So try raised gardening

So happy you get to enjoy spring "down south". I had some crocus (little white ones) in the yard last week and was so excited (I'm in Buffalo) BUT they got covered in snow over the weekend!! I laughed when you talked about the "are you a plant or a weed" game I thought I was the only one :) I always have to ask my neighbor. He just looks at me with a side eye and says WEED.

I'm excited for you! I never gardened until moving to my house 30 years ago as we always lived in apartments. I loved it and had a beautiful garden for years. It was before the days of internet, so I bought books and magazines. Living in CA, Sunset magazine was the best for me. I also turned into a bird watcher and put birdfeeders and fountains in my back year. Now that I'm in my 60s with bad arthritis, I want to move back into a condo or apartment where someone else takes care of the garden LOL.

Best advice I can give with gardening is to get a good watering routine going and try and keep weeds and other plants from competing with the plants you're keeping by pulling them out of the ground. Gardening can be very fulfilling.

Great video Jenny was going to suggest my yard is full of solar lights everywhere. Unfortunately I take them all in in the fall but really there is no fuss with them and transforms your yard into a wonderland at night. After a little clean up with a rake you will be able to tell better what is weeds. Enjoy but add solar lights back there you will love it .sending hugs 🫂

Happy Spring! You are a breath of fresh air today! ❤. Eat some honey that is local to your area, it helps allergies. I like how you name flowers. Oh I got a knee bench that you can flip to use as a seat. I love mine, it helps me get up too. 😂. March showers just bring MUD. 😮. Hanging baskets die because the soil is wrong, it doesn’t hold water, they dry out. I’m going to start replacing the soil in mine this year with real dirt. That’s a pretty creek, how pleasant. Enjoy your swing time. ❤

Glad your happy jenn but has with here in the uk you will be hit with allergies 😅 . That definitely was a Rhododendron they look amazing when flowering but give off so much pollen 🤧. Has for the white flower and the barney flowers there crocus plants and has with daffodils they only flower for a short period sadly. Has for leaves is normally good to leave some on the grounds for bird nests and foid for the plsnts etc . Id recommended getting a long handle spring rake and making a pile in the corner. Has for sticks also make a pile so nature can use them . Not sure on animals but maybe be careful of snakes when raking also some bees species sleep under leaves during cold weather .
The yellow flower ones are really heavy in pollen so be careful. Has for your knees you can get long handle tools i have some

I think the white marshmallow flowers are crocuses. And the purple ones may be freesia. (Edit: they are also crocuses. Freesia look like little purple bunches of grapes, I think.) I love those, they smell soooo good. (Both come from little bulbs and only bloom once, but they come back every year.) Good luck with the gardening. It will keep you busy. My husband was always dismayed, when he moved from Michigan to California, that he would have to mow the lawn all year.

Hi Jen, go to a local nursery in your area, even a building center. They will have plants and answer simple questions. If you see seed catalogues grab one. They hold all information and you can take your time to see and digest info. Perennials come up year to year and annuals are great for filling in empty spots and flash of colour. Enjoy this new adventure.

If I were you I'd do a fusion; a few containers, some ground stuff (but not too much) so you don't get too tired on your knees. Definitely get the bench *thumbs* And get a bleeding heart bush! Easy and sooooooo pretty. Vlog idea: Garden center shopping :D

Yes, that was a rhododendron, it is the state flower of West Virginia. The white and purple flowers are both crocuses. My aunt grew up in Buffalo so I've heard about the tulips. The plant at time stamp 8:35 is a dandelion. Many people consider them weeds but they are a very beneficial herb as well as being very important to honey bees. The greens can be eaten, and making dandelion wine is very popular. The root has some health benefits. The plant after the dandelion could be a lily or an ornamental grass. At time stamo 9:53 the yellow flowers on the bushes are forsythia. The blooms will die and drop and then the bushes will fill out with green leaves. March showers bring mud. At least in WV, lol. I love to swing. It brings a smile to my face to see you swinging and smiling. I love your intro and outro just the way it is.

Hi Jenn! I think your knee bench will probably work well, buy you may want to add gardening knee pads. They're great for when you have to move around and don't want to move the pad/bench. I use them for cleaning floors as well because my kneecap moves when on a hard surface. I'm great with indoor plants but the outside ones not so much. When I pick up anything at a garden centre I ask a lot of questions, the main one being "what is the easiest to care for?". Otherwise there are bushes outside that just don't make it at my house LOL.

The white and purple flowers are crocuses. You should go to a local nursery, they'd be more than happy to help you in what plants and flowers do best in your area. With your autoimmune issues, you might want to wear gloves when planting and especially when pulling weeds. I had an allergic reaction to a weed once, it hurt so bad.

Jenn, there's daffodils, violets, buttercups, roses and a variety of them and different colors. Just watch out for the many thorns they have too. Black and blue roses are very rare. Sunflowers, peonie, petunias, lavendars, poinsettias which is the Christmas flowers of the season, tulips, snap dragons, venus fly traps which actually do eat flys for real. 😁 Jenn, the purple flowers are violets and no they aren't weeds their flowers just like lavendars cause they're fregrant too. Jenn, if you want flowers you either go to Walmart's lawn and garden department, Lowes lawn and garden department or Home Depot's lawn and garden department or if there's a store in town that just has plants, flowers, and gardening and such, and backyard plants and fish.

lol You are so cute about being excited about spring time! I love it! Its like me when I see actual fall colors. I live in the gulf coast and It's either green or brown here. We dont get the pretty orange, yellow, and red trees. Unless someone plants them.

There are lots of apps out there for plant identification and care. One that I keep seeing even tells you how to fix any issues with each plant when there's a problem.

My dads garden on Baldwin street in Rochester was gorgeous in the spring, which usually came in late April or possibly in may. Yours are freakishly early and thats ok. His daffydiills came in April.

I’d go crazy with all this space, I love plants!!! There’s plenty of information on YT. And one truth is that gardeners love to talk about gardening. So ask when you have a chance.

Home depot has lots of flowers
I do think flowers in the ground are easier to grow.

I really appreciate your awkward dorkiness! I'm like that too I moved from Michigan to NC and I was shocked by how nice it is there in the winter. I would laugh when they would close school because we "might" get an inch of snow. Be prepared though, the summers are brutal!
