  • This video shows in full detail the procedure needed to change from a standard harness foot set to the special order inline foot set* on a Cowboy CB4500 leather stitcher. The same process can be used to install them on a CB3200, 3500, 4500, or 5500, or the equivalent machines from Cobra and Techsew. These sewing machines belong to a class known in the biz as 441 clones, referring to the venerable and very expensive Juki TSC-441.
    * These particular, shorter than standard, inline feet are no longer available from Cowboy dealers. But, if you already have a set, or find a set for sale privately, this video will help you setup your machine to use them.
    NOTE: I have been informed that new inline feet that match the height of the standard feet are being shipped as of mid-April, 2019.
    The inline feet allow you to sew very close to raised surfaces, beads and hardware on the left side of the foot, as well as very close to the right edge. This set can sometimes be used to sew the soles onto shoes, if there is at least a 5/32" lip beyond the boot or shoe upper.

    When I published this video the original inline feet were shorter than the stock feet, requiring the presser bar to be lowered. Since then, a new source is producing them at the correct length to match the standard feet. Minimal adjustment if any will be necessary with the new set.

      I was unable to see where the bolt is that you used the hex wrench on in the video.

      @@buddamon8883 It is seen multiple times when you are looking head on at the business end of the machine, with the faceplate off. There is a crank shaft coming out the upper left side when you look at the open end of the machine. That crank is connected to a rod on the back with a large bolt. It is the crank that goes inside and moves the inside foot. Follow the components from the inside foot out the back.

      Hi Wiz. Any info of where i can find these at the correct length? Is there a link you can share?

    Thank you so much for the information! This was extremely helpful! I got the new "regular height" feet and it seems to work really well! The only problem I have now is that the outside presser foot seems to get "stuck" on the way down if I go really slow and there's a sudden release which doesn't seem like it's normal. I'm gonna play with it, but if you have any idea what could be the issue I'd love to hear it. :)

      I haven't got the new inline feet yet, so I can only suggest that you watch them move and see if the front and back feet are making contact as they alternate and binding the back foot.
      If there's no foot contact, try turning down the foot pressure collar screw a bit. Maybe the hole in the collar is slightly off center and is causing the presser bar to hang at a certain point. Turning the screw can free up a sticking presser bar.
      If neither of the above helps, join Leatherworker.net and post a video of the problem in the Leather Sewing Machines forum. You will get plenty of help from the members.

      @@wizfeinberg thank you so much for the quick reply! There was contact between them and I just ended up raising the inner foot a tiny bit which fixed the issue. 😁 You're awesome!

    Thanks for the info , i have just purchased a CB4500 in South Africa, , on the adjustment on the inline pressor foot i could not see where you made the adjustment on the needle foot were you used the allen key to loosen and tighten once the needle and foot were touching the leather at the same time as the needle please could you possibly explain were the securing bolt sits or is positioned.. thanks in advance for the help

      Steve, the inside foot position is easily adjusted by loosening the big bolt on the back, which allows the inside foot to be moved by hand. Once you have adjusted the resting position of the outer presser foot, loosen the big bolt and lower the needle until it is about to meet the level of the feed dog. The loose inside foot should be down already from its weiight. Just tighten that bolt to lock it in place,

    Did you have to drill and tap holes to install the drop-down roller guide?

    • @wizfeinberg
      @wizfeinberg  2 года назад +1

      The holes should be on the back of the head. The newer models are already tapped to 6 x 1.25mm. If your aren't tapped, get a suitable tap and matching screws.

    Where can we get the roller guage ?

    • @wizfeinberg
      @wizfeinberg  3 года назад

      Most industrial sewing machine dealers have, or can order the drop down adjustable edge guide and install it for you. This requires drilling and tapping two (M5) holes on the back of the head. I had this done when I got my machine. It also came with a stock swing away roller edge guide that mounts on a T-bar mounting plate. Cowboy/Hightex sewing machine dealers can assist you with these accessories. Or, you can buy a drop down edge guide on eBay and drill and tap the holes yourself.
