I am about to purchase a heavy leather sewing machine, so I have been taking my time digging into the differences between Cobra Class 4 and Cowboy CB4500 to determine what machine is the best value. The Cobra Class 4 and the Cowboy CB4500 and the Juki 441 heads are made in the same factory on the same assembly line. They are identical in every way until the Cobra gets painted Brown, the Cowboy gets painted Tan, and the Juki is painted White. Cowboy has stepped up in my opinion by replacing some of the carbon steel parts that touch the leather with Stainless-Steel parts to include the presser feet and needle plates this is to eliminate the possibility of rust due to the moisture in the leather, they also include an Extra-Large Flywheel for ease of operation, a Wax/Lube pot for the thread and a Better LED Light. I was also told Cowboy has a bit Heavier Built Speed Reducer. I contacted Cobra folks and asked them the same questions I had asked the Cowboy folks; they did not contest any of what Cowboy folks had told me was included with the Cowboy CB4500 or what is better about the Cowboy VS Cobra or vice versa. Cobra did not even speculate that something was better about their Class 4 machine vs the CB4500 (that was really odd or telling to me) they would only say is Cobra has a limited lifetime warranty and did not elaborate further. Cowboy also has a limited lifetime warranty, so Cobra did now win any points from me on that. They both come with a heavy built table/stand and a Servo motor. Both the Cowboy CB4500 and the Cobra Class 4 are around $3k, I am seeing the price of the Juki 441-U around 7k to 8K (maybe they line the inside of those with gold or something, seems crazy high to me). I have only seen these machines from a distance and never used one, so I am going off what the information from the sources listed below, videos, and forums provided me. I am feeling a little better about turning loose of $3k + shipping on this machine now that the information provided from every source has lined up. The amazing thing to me is that all the info lined up no matter what part of the country it came from. Even the machine owners just giving me their honest opinion lined up with what the other sources had provided, their information kind of glued it all together for me since they had no skin in the game to want to sell me one way or the other. (I thank you guys for that!). My confidence is High that I am making a decision that is best for me. SOURCES: I have spoken with Ryan Neal at Neil Saddlery & Harness and Bob Kovar at Teleto Industrial Sewing Machines, about the Cowboy CB4500 machines I also contacted Aaron Hizer at Makers Leather Supply, Heather Bradt at Leather Machine Co about the Cobra Class 4. I also spoke with a 4 of machine owners that I will not name here as I did not ask their permission. This is the accumulation of the information I received from all of sources. CONCLUSION: In my humble opinion with the information I received, both are good machines. It appears to be as of today's date you get more for your money with Cowboy CB4500.
Thanks for your messaage. It is not good to say something bad about the competitor (Cobra), below is the advantages of CowBoy you can consider: 1. Cowboy was founded as a company that places quality over quantity, we test & improve each machine throughly before delivery. 2. Cowboy CB4500 now is with best low speed high torque servo motor (www.cowboysew.com/750SH-slow-speed-high-torque-servo-motor-for-extra-heavy-duty-sewing-machine.htm ), you CANNOT find similar high performance servo motor from other brand. 3. CowBoy has long business plan, both founders in United States and China are less 50 years old. You do not need to worry about spare parts in future 20 years!! Hope above information is helpful, thank you!
I just spoke with Ryan yesterday (on a Sunday by the way) and this guy is sharp and on point, I would choose to purchase from him just for his availability and knowledge even If I had to pay a little more for the machine it would be worth it to get his knowledge to back you up when something breaks. @@HightexHeavysewingtechnology I think I love to buy thisone. you can use needle up to Nm26 and thread up to 5/3. and the Presser Foot Lift is just perfect for me. the only thing am less happy about is is the stitch lenght. Hi Ryan. Just watched your very informative video and am wondering if any of the accessories you mention at the conclusion would work on my machine, which seems to be of similar design. I have a Nakajima 421 and I have been led to understand that it is very similar to your Cowboy CB4500. I am particularly interested in the straight sewing guide, which you compare to the rip fence on a table saw. Also, it would be helpful to have the guides that help one sew knife sheaths and gun holsters. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Joe, we never heard about Nakajima sewing machine, CowBoy CB4500 is clone of Juki TSC-441 leather sewing machine, if your sewing machine looks same, the parts should be interchangable.
Hello. I used to work with the Adler 205-370 and am now looking to buy my own machine . I was just wondering if this machine is comparable. If you would like to look at the work I do you can just type in “A STABLE FORCE” in the RUclips search engine and you will see a short interview with me in my shop. Thank you for your time .

Hello Ryan. I have been looking everwhere for a UK supplier of the Cowboy sewing machine range. No luck so far. Do you know of any UK supplier? Great videos by the way. When I eventually get one of these machines, I will come back and learn from your vid's.
Hello again Ryan, as always thanks for all your videos, I was wondering if you have worked with the CB7132? I saw it on the internet, but haven't seen anyone actually using it. if you have the possibility to use them, would you be able to upload a video of it. Having someone like you explaining the pros and cons of the machine will give a better idea and also see it in action. Thanks again

What is that clicking sound coming from the tension area on the side? It looks like something is snapping closed. I don't know if I could ever get used to that noise.

Hello!
I guess the tank on top of the machine is for lubricating the thread. Does it mean that the machine can sew with linen thread?
Yes, you are right. The casting iron tank is for lubricating thread. This machine can sew with linen thread.
Is the pressure foot and feed dog smooth so it doesn't mar the leather?
Yes this leather sewing machine standard supplied with non-teeth feed dog, feed dog and needle plate.
