They went to all that trouble to make an incredible looking and well proportioned watch and didn’t include a micro adjust clasp and made it £2-£3k too expensive!
I hope you don't take offence but I am on a mission to understand people when they comment that a watch is £x too expensive. Are you able to articulate how you arrive at a different valuation for this watch?
Thanks Adrian for being the first RUclipsr to introduce us to the IWC Ingineur remake of this Gerald Genta classique! It is never too late to reintroduce a true original classic! Never too late. I am going to put this watch on my wish list.
Adrian, I could not agree w/ you more. Definitely a solid improvement, all while still remaining faithful, to the original. Chris and his team at IWC, did a fantastic job w/ this. Your footage was brilliant. Thank you for highlighting this uber important design. Cheers.....
I'm an engineer who loves watches. I'm not a pilot, racing driver or diver. So this beautiful watch appeals. Although sadly engineers can't afford £10k on a watch! 😅
I am an engineer who loves watches and 100% agree. From an engineering and value proposition point of view, I prefer Archimede Outdoor Antimag Ti (on my wrist), Sinn 556 or Damasco D30. All wear also fine dressed up, if needed.
Gosh....I'm an engineer with 7 watches in that range. If you can't afford a £10k watch as an engineer...you might be doing something wrong. Here in the US we have a STEM shortage and you can pretty much choose your salary.
Brilliant.. totally agree. They stayed faithful to the original to preserve its Genta heritage and identity (even the brushed satin finish) but with updated chamfered edges and other tweaks and enhancements to bring it gracefully into the 21st century. Love the dial pattern. Dont know which one to choose. Stellar job.
If I'm not mistaken, the movement is modified by IWC and based on ETA 2892 manufactured by ValFleurier. The movement is somewhat in-house but not totally. I think the watch is to expensive. I would expect a totally in-house movement at that price point or between 8-10k with the current movement.
If this were the same price as the Aquatimer I just got I would definitely be having some buyer's remorse, that's for sure. I think the new Ingenieur is a home run!
@@chamarajayamal9810 Thanks, I got it with their new 5-day movement. Unfortunately, I got a lemon so it's being fixed by IWC under warranty. Happens once in a while, just got unlucky.
I bought a MKXX this evening in London. Blue, and with the additional brown strap. My friend bought the Lewis Hamilton Ingenieur when he was partnered with Rosberg, that is a lovely watch.
@@jarrodlee1506 Trouble is youll always get your money back and in some cases more with a Rolex if you ever need to sell and thats quite a big concern for most people if youre not a millionaire
I will be finishing my Master's degree around the end of this year and was looking for a watch as a gift for myself. I guess this is gonna be the one I'm heading for.
Wonder if Adrian knew the price at filming? They are pushing it price wise and in 2023 at the luxury end it’s inexcusable not to have micro adjustment. Especially for a watch you are always going to keep on the bracelet. The watch looks great and good to see them do such a good job on it.
I can't imagine he knew of the 12K price tag when filming this. That price is pretty bonkers, especially considering that it has the SAME movement as his 5K Mark XX...
Love to see a Bark and Jack watch review back up. I’ve been loving About Effing Time, but definitely prefer Bark and Jack/Adrian Barker watch reviews. This IWC is amazing too!
So exited to find the new release of this IWC Inginuer with perfect sizes and huge power reserve. The dial is exceptional, I am sure the hands, indexes and dates are are usual IWC standard. You missed the prices which is a vital point to set the goal for my next purchase....
Had one of these twenty years ago. Its good to see that its not a clunker as was the case with mine. It was just too unwieldy. They say once bitten twice shy because I lost a lot of money on mine when I flipped it.
Excellent potted history and wonderfully shot as always - thanks Adrian. It's an interesting and storied watch, but a difficult thing to love - you'd have to really love it to buy one (assuming you can get one), and I'm not sure the reality stacks up to the 'pre-wearing' experience. Bizzarely, the opposite of the Bremont Supernova - a watch I was fully prepared to loathe, but fell into the 'take my money' category about 10 seconds after putting it on my wrist....watches eh?
Great video and to see this back Love the new version in the Aqua dial. Nicely done tapered bracelet This time around I think these are going to be hard to get….
I think it's a great step to revive the Genta design again. I was crying to see the 'new' (now 'old') one after the famous 3239 iteration - which is still the best looking Ingenieur today imho. This brand new 38901 is very true to the original Genta design and I kind like it. BUT I think there are multiple problems: They have heavily increased the price, the way cheaper Pilot's watch Mark XX has the same movement and even the great adjustable clasp. And their just mentioned Pilot's watch is nowaday more iconic to me as they kept this simple design for years with just slight improvements. So for me this is the way better deal if you want an IWC with a great Inhouse movement with a much better clasp design.
I have been waiting for this for a while and finally it is out. I love it, everything is very well done and I would buy it in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the missing micro adjustment on the bracelet. Such a missed opportunity. What a shame.
@Ken Rabow if that's true there must have been lots of negative feedback. IWC made the statement that they specifically left out the micro adjust in favor of aesthetics of the clasp area and to keep it slim. For a watch such as the Ingenieur form should follow function, offering micro adjust will mean just that. Edit: source is interview of Watchadvisor with IWC
@@miron9756 That's what I was told at the AD as well. It will change that area. I'm going to go check out the both versions of the strap (w/o the Ingenieur) and see what I want to order. I am told you can by the micro-adjust after the fact as well.
Ah this could be the first modern IWC I would be willing to buy. The obvious one to go for is the black, I know 100% that aqua is a fashion trend that will most probably look ridiculous in a few years and yet, it really is very very tempting. Good video.
@@j.m.4444 lol. Dang, you're right. That is a bummer and a 5 day power reserve doesn't make up for that imo. "IWC manufactured 32111" threw me off.... 32xxx were all based eta apparently.
Great vid. Seen as AP only make Royal Oaks and Code 11.59s or whatever they're called it's fairly safe to say the brand wouldn't have survived without the Genta designed RO.
Wow, I just finished watching the about effing time episode yesterday, where you guys talked about how much you would like to see IWC bring back this watch. You guys can see into the future haha
@@polygoncoco For me they have been slightly overpriced in the past, but not too bad. 12,000 is ridiculous and an extra 3000 for titanium is unfathomable. That is almost half the price of what this should cost and half the price of say a Rolex OP 41. They can't justify it and the pricing has put me off IWC. That and not listening to their audience, the formula is simple.....Display back, micro adjustment on bracelet, Genta design, descent water rating (could be 150) and a competitive price point 7 or 8000 chf.
I agree on price. But. New IWC bracelets have in built micro adjustment in the clasp don’t they ? although not mentioned this time so maybe not. And also has soft iron core case ?
The MarkXX is fairly priced. 5 day power reserve. Not interested. Too expensive. I like to see the movement. He is way over the top about this watch. Who cares about the antimagnetic case, when everyone else has moved to silicon mainsprings. It is a typical 3 handed. $5500 on Chrono24. Not $12000.
Just love it. My favorite is the titanium one. As an engineer, I already have the Railmaster. This will be my next. Unfortunately Rolex discontinued the Milgauss before I could get one
Hey! Great channel, love your videos 😊👍 Just want to point out about the see-through back suggestion, IWC couldn’t do it because then the watch wouldn’t be as antimagnetic and it couldn’t be an Ingenieur if it had.
Thank you for this coverage, Adrian. I love the way integrated bracelet watches look in the abstract, but never like any of them on the wrist. Not sure what it is.
That is pretty cool to be fair. I like the aqua. The lug to lug is exceeds my appetite, but i reckon that's not quite as applicable a measurement with integrated bracelets... Need to try one on!
