    Two thoughts:
    1. I was a Windows users since 95 up until 2020 when I switched to Mac. After converting I fell in love with Mac's hardware build and MacOS itself. However I am a gamer so I don't have complete support for everything I would like to play. I do have far more than enough to play and keep me entertained, but there are some games on my want to play tier list that are higher up than the games available to me on Mac. If down the road these developments allow me to have roughly the same experience/library as Steam Deck, I would but near 100% satisfaction.
    2. If Asahi could ever somehow make its way to hacked iOS devices, and Linux on Apple Silicon get parity with Steam OS on x86, an iPad or iPhone Pro Max would be the ultimate Steam Deck. A base M3 outperforms the x86 handhelds in GPU, its silent, and the battery life is on another level. I already have a telescoping controller that fits on an 11 inch iPad Pro (though I think the iPad Mini would be the perfect size for this).

    12:55 While the fps is higher I would argue that linux version is running better than macos - you can clearly see that there are still issues with frame pacing that result in periodic micro stutter. If possible it would be great if you could include 1% and 0.1% low fps values in your videos and analysis - it would provide a clearer look on the performance.

      @krystiano.610 3 месяца назад

      @@felixjohnson3874 Yeah I agree that nowadays linux thanks to less bloated software can be faster, but right now while asahi linux drivers look promising, they still are still lacking compared to the macos ones.
      It would be best for us - the viewers, to know that from a video Right now I think that Andrew sugar coats the performance too much - which causes our expectations to be higher than they should really be.

      @krystiano.610 on Asahi I can't say, no real interest in using Mac hardware myself, my point was just to legitimize that Linux very likely can do things better on the same hardware because it already has on different hardware.

    • @lachlanmarie3763

      No, external booting is not possible for M-series hardware due to fundamental security choices made by Apple. Asahi linux support for M3 will only be possible after Apple releases M3 Mac minis due to their use in the reverse engineering process, so it may not be available until the end of 2024.

    I recently installed Ubuntu 23.10 on my M1 MacBook Pro. And it runs better than on macOS, which surprised me. Well the battery isn't as great as on macOS but thats okay with me 'cause I don't take it much out and so I have an outlet always nearby. Also on the latest macOS verison, my Mac got always warm and sometimes hot, like intel Macs, which confused me bc on Big Sur it stayed cold all the time, even if you use something like Final Cut Pro. On Ubuntu, it stays cold like on Big Sur and its not getting any hot when doing things. The Display resolution also looks better on Ubuntu, on macOS it looked weird when u look close to the display, in ubuntu its just sharp and clear. The speakers are also louder and sound a little better. One thing that annoys me is that the touch bar isn't working and I am not able to connect my airpods to it yet. hopefully that gets fixed someday. But overall it runs great.

    There is no GPU hw with full VK implementation as the spec consists of thousands of optional APIs that you’re only supposed to support if your HW supports them.
    Notable here is the difference between apples GPUs in HW pipeline to PC GPUs that means some/many pc VK titles will still need a runtime shim to run on a VK driver for apple silicon. VK does NOT provide a hardware agnostic api at all!
