No need for a stereo in this car. The engine and exhaust sound is music to my ears. Beautiful Galaxie.
Most of us would lose our minds without a stereo system in any of our cars!
@@davidallen5776 Yeah, but only if the car is a Prius
My First car was a white Galaxie 500 with the 390 engine, powerful engine
I had a 735 Holley on my '64 Galaxie 500XL. Built 390, 428CJ "C" cam, deep sump oil pan, headers, Ford aluminum intake, dual point distributor. Built C6 & 4.11 gears. This was in 1970,while I was in high school.
I had the 390 in my 63 Thunderbird. One GOOD sounding engine 😁
That thing is a dream ride! Love it!
Amen
Glad to see a 390 still kicking. Better get mine a going
I had one of these in "seafoam green" with a white top. My first car. Loved the floor button for the high-beam switch.
Sitting here at work, which don’t draw a smile in and of it’s self, I sat down for break and turned this on, and instant smile on my face. Got me to thinking, no wonder guys had a better work ethic back when they drove cars like this to work, they got up to go to work every day because it gave them an excuse to drive their car.
I bought one new in 1963 as I excited USAF. G.500xl. 390, 300 4 speed. Beautiful, best interior to date. Just as long as you did not think you were fast.
Ah, thank you for the memories (Pops had 429 CJ, what a car!)😎🤙
I come back here like every week, just to listen
Just acquired a 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT. Manual steering and brakes...390 with mild cam. No problem chirping in 3 gears. As with any vehicle over 50 years old...there is some issues that do need and maybe upgrades. I know the 390 sucks the gas but...ohhhh what fun and I don't intend to drive long distance. .
For the hell of it I was suppose to meet up with my son at a local car get together...He has a monster Tempest. As soon a I turned into the lot all eyes were checking the car out..Some came over and I told them is isn't for show and was a work in progress but they still checked it out. Most see the Ford Fairlane in same form. Do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do.
Great Galaxie! Regards from Germany
Beautiful car. Actually, one of my dream cars. Partially due to the fact that our family had a 4 door solid BLACK regular Galaxie 500 hardtop with grey interior and with the 390. I was just coming of age (at the age of 12) when it was new. Our car, for a 4 door, was one great looking car, it being a hardtop. From that point forward, the '64 Ford Galaxie - especially the XL - has been one of my favorite Fords of all time. The DESIGN of the car is just sooo good looking! A very nice car indeed. BTW, if I were you I'd put the 390/checked cross flags/T-Bird "stickers" back on the bottom of the front quarters. Besides telling everyone what's under the hood, I think they even add a nice design touch. 😁
Reminds me of High School riding around in my buddies '67 Galaxie convertible, he had glasspacks but only a 2bbl.
Nice 64 Galaxie,great sounding 390!.John M Guinto
Back in the 80's are family owned 64 Galaxie 500 with C4 transmission and 289 V8 engine. It was not as loud as this one. But, was a very smooth ride. I took it a couple of times from Fresno CA to Pismo Beach. It had no trouble and on highway did about 18 mpg. It was then stolen and never seen again. I miss that car, oh and originally we paid $250.00 for it
My dad had a 69 torino GT with that engine, and glass packs on it
Was a monster on the road
Looks better than cars today very futuristic 🙌
I once had a Galaxie 64 a black one,...so really nice seeing this..
That car is badass. Nice ride.
We just bought a 1969 Ford F350 27 foot Vista Liner Olympus C Class Motorhome, and the 390 Fe it has in, only has 35,000 on it.
I told my husband, that we'll never get in to an RV park with that kind of noise.
He just said,..." All the better", and continued with the deal.
Am I upset?
Not on your life!
You should see what happens, when we pull in to a gas station!
That 390 has HUGE balls
idling it a bit high there for the warmup. Sweet Ride
Nice wheels brother
Stick shift too sweet sweet!!
Pretty nice for 12,250...some minor rust and cosmetic work and a sweet daily driver..wish I had seen it sooner
Badass ole Galaxie
That's one hella mean sounding 390
FORD Galaxie 500 64
This is a true car

If you are doing a drive by clip, drive by! Don't let off the gas going by.
Nice car. We have a 64 500 XL red with black interior. Just installed a 445 stroker with C6 and gearvendors overdrive. Still finishing it up, haven't started it yet. How did that C6 install go? I had to make some crossmember extensions and used a tci universal shift lever to make the factory shift linkage and shifter work. Got the indicator almost perfectly lined up. I see yours looks like an aftermarket shifter probably for that reason. I see the sanderson shorty headers. Same ones we have. Did you have to lift the engine up to get them in? I did. Also had the drivers header resting on the engine crossmember. None of this stuff just bolts right in lol. Ours has power steering and power brakes, and A/C originally. Both of which make performance modifications significantly more difficult. Have some really nice tall pentroof valve covers with the eagle that say 445 right in the center. I have to mill part of a fin off of because it just touches the side of the brake booster....
I've run into a couple of people at car shows that did the c6 swap and both told me it just bolted right in. Well that's a load of manure if I ever saw one. Wasn't too bad though. It lived a 258,000 mile life as a 352 and FX cruise o matic before we got it, some 21 years ago. Most worn out car I have EVER seen!
One good thing about it is, the car is totally rust free. Not a speck of rust anywhere and the floor and trunk look like brand new.
Classic Ford..not too high not too low just right..that 390 sounds like a raving beast..with attitude..Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I bid on this car on BaT. Super regretful I didn’t win the auction
I would keep the painted wheels for originality sake -but have a nice set of wires for cruisin'
The front end looked off to me, and then I realized it’s missing the chrome trim for the hood and the FORD letters
Love the shifter, what make is it?
i like it
Please put some old Style Mags on this car !!! .....
Man that beautiful 64 Ford Galaxie with that thumping 390FE V8 sounds badass mate. So badass that It'll make a lot of pretty girls shiver they're bones like no tomorrow.
nice!
I want that car so hard
Gorgeous. Any drone on the highway?
I'd like to have one with a 390 police interceptor 4v same color as this and red interior
Some of things to note:
1. Why no XL bubble emblem on the rear quarter chrome? That is standard Galaxie 500 chrome.
2. Why a red steering wheel in an otherwise black interior?
3. That is not an XL horn ring on the steering wheel.
4. What brand of aftermarket radiator is under the hood? It really stands out.
First, I no longer own this car, but I'll try my best from memory...
1) The car was restored/modified in the 90s, at that time the owner did a few things like this to give it a cleaner, slightly modded look. The front fender ornaments and hood letters are shaved, etc. I personally liked it.
2) When I got the car it had a tiny grant style wheel on it, the red 63 steering wheel came with the car. I installed it and liked the look.
3) The steering wheel and horn ring were from a 63 gal.
4) It is actually an oem radiator with a custom piece of aluminum installed over top just to dress up the engine bay (again the car has been that way since the 90s)
I want it.
I've always wanted one. I see them for sale at decent prices but I'm afraid parts would be impossible to find. You can find new parts for Chevy but I dunno about the fords. I had a 69 Chevy truck I could buy any part I wanted for. Never had a old ford. I like to actually drive them so I need to be able to find parts like bearings and suspension parts
👌
I WISHD ID HAD SOME DAY 3 GALAXIES
What would a decent driver like this one cost ?
Some discrepancies: The side trim is for a 500, not a 500Xl. The horn ring is also wrong-no XL center piece. Steering wheel doesn’t match the dashboard & upholstery colors. The rear speaker and glove box door are correct for an XL.
The side trim is XL trim, the oval piece at the rear of the side trim just overlays the spear. The previous owner was jus cleaning up the look to their taste. For example I had a 68 RS Camaro that I put the standard grille in with the black paint buffed off the grille surround, removed all the exterior Camaro emblems and removed the side marker lights. Just to my taste. That's what's great about hotrods.
I WISHD ID HAD 2 GALAXIES
I can tell from the exhaust sound that this 390 is not stock...........PS: Where are the " 390 Thunderbird " badges?
Hello, I like this exhaust sound, super. I would like to know the name of the muffler and the diameter of the pipes? I have a 1963 Thunderbird 390 ci.
Putting my 64 Galaxie back together been scrolling through comments daily to figure this out….it sounds soooo good I just want to know what mufflers lol
The muffler is listed in the video description but not the size. FlowTech mufflers with Sanderson shorty headers. 2.5" pipes should do just fine for a 390.
Cool video of a 64 galaxy dash🤦
Nice! That car has the swing away wheel. Does it still work as i see you removed the column shifter?
From what I can remember this never had a swing away column (unless you see something I didn't know about). The steering wheel came from a 63 gal, and all the modifications (like removing the column shifter) were done in the 90s, well before I owned the car.
@@nostalgicroadster5026 the way the brushed aluminium trim curves up around the steering column. Non swing away cars have that bottom portion straight.
That was on the thunder bird I've never seen that on a galaxie
@@booyascone4003 65 had the swing away. You'd push a bar to the right of the wheel and kind of under the dash and slide the wheel over. 62 birds (probably 61 and 63 but def not 60 and earlier) you'd push up on the auto trans column shifter and slide the wheel over.
@@hitman912 thank you I'll have to check it out be sweet on my 63 Galaxie
It looks just like my 2nd Galaxie 500XL except mine was a Black W Red Interior. Same everything else though, you're just missing your center console for some reason. I had the old fashioned chrome reverse with mooncaps and beauty rings. Is this a stock 390 or does it have a different cam and intake/carb set up?
👍
Who here on 2022
Red wheel with black interior ❓ strange.
Surely no power brakes on this baby! Not with that cam.
Why not, I had power brakes in my 69 Impala Custom 427, with the 3925535 L-88 solid lifter cam, that cam had more duration and about the same lift as this and the power brakes worked just fine.
You can see the booster behind the single master cylinder.
@@elituko Ford didn't offer power brakes with their 427, presumably because there wouldn't be sufficient vacuum.
