What a beautiful car. A gorgeous classic even with the original 390. Hats off to Francis for being it's caretaker and still having the original engine. Quite the package. Never met a high performance engine that liked cold starts especially on a Quebec cold winter day. But as an old school boomer muscle car guy it breaks my heart to see that 427 fe leave the engine bay. What a ride.

Hi Nick & George, This is going to bring back some memories for me. My uncle bought a new 1964 Galaxie 500 XL with a 427 4-speed. It had bucket seats, was Maroon in color, with a black vinyl top. I never got to drive that car, but I sure wanted to, lol. It's great to be here on a Monday, and seeing such a rare muscle car from the 60's.

A true muscle car from the 60s. I own a 1964 mercury marauder with factory #$ matching 390, I've also owned a 1961 thunderbird with the police package 390 like he us putting back in his car. My older brother had a 64 Galaxy 500 with the 390 and 3 speed manual w/floor shifter, buckets and black on black. I always loved that car, so when I was in grade 8 or 9 I bought a forest green 64 Galaxy with a blown up 289. Before long I had installed a 352 that belonged to my dad in it. I was ever so proud of it, but even though it was a 2 door hardtop, it never matched my brother’s car. It was still running great until that Wednesday night in the summer of 72 when I tried to climb a power pole with it. I gave it to my brother and bought a 66 GTO for the princely sum of $500. That Goat was my ride during my senior year of 72-73. Man, I’d take any of them back today

@@dcraexon134 Good luck trying to get any MPG out of a 352 or a 390. I've done all sorts of carb and ignition tuning and found nothing to make a difference past a certain point. Going from a stock to 2200 stall converter and 3:00 to 3.70:1 gears didn't even change the MPG any either. Mixed driving I average 10 MPG in a 4 door 64 galaxie. My dad's galaxie with a 445 stroker and C6 2500 stall with a huge cam in it and 3.91 gears doesn't do much worse than that.
My last tank of fuel on the original 352 in the 4 door with 3:1 gears and a freshly rebuilt transmission was 8.5 MPG driving it like a normal car. That engine had some issues, but it ran very well, actually it ran a lot better than it should have.

Lifelong friend of mine has a '66 Galaxy convertible with the dual 4bbl 427, 4 spd., red on red, with a white top that belonged to his father. He ordered it new when he came back from his Army deployment in Germany from the local Ford dealer and had it his entire life. It has a plate on the console that reads "specially built for" and his name afterwards. It's getting a little rough around the edges with it needing a new top and a little rust starting in places, but it's all there, runs and drives. Been sitting in the garage for years now, but we got it running again and it sounds great. My friend is torn as to whether to do a complete restoration or try and sell it. The car is quite rare, and restoration will be very expensive, but I think it is worth doing. Very interesting car.

Of course we won't try that at home. It's always on the side of the interstate! Duct tape a five gallon can to the windshield, use air line for fuel hose to get home. Love it, Nick, George and crew.

👍 Brings back good memories, got in the habit of putting my hand over the ports. Doing a timing of wide-open throttle and putting my hand over the ports
to keep the rpm down. It helps to clean the arteries of the carburetor. People told me they can tell it ran better doing that, the cars were stock form.

Dana "60" Glass. Many stories about getting old projects from point A to point B. One of the funniest was a '68 Buick GS400 4speed that quit on the way to my buddy's shop. It quit at a truck stop. So we grabbed his trailer and proceded to push start the car to get it on the trailer. No winch just a come along. Even dumping the clutch it wouldn't start, so that meant pushing it from one end of the parking lot to the next. After 3 tries we finally got it on the trailer and home to the shop. We had an audience inside the truck stop that I'm sure got entertained.

that old yellow gas fouls the plugs after it starts and then it don’t start no more , got a drain the fuel, and sometimes open the carburetor up clean the bowl and anything around the rods and jets and refill with fresh fuel , that car is so nice 👍

My favorite Ford. I had a 64 Galaxie 500XL Convertible with the 390, Cruse-O-Matic. White with the Red interior. AM/FM Factory Radio, Power Steering, Manual Brakes. Sure wish I still had it. There are only two cars form my past I wish I still had. The Ford and my 75 Scout II.

Back in the 70s my neighbor had one that he crashed into the ditch and us kids would pretend to drive it. Even smashed is was a nice metallic blue with black interior. I'm not a Ford guy but the 64 Galaxy 500 is a cool car.

Looking forward to the 427on the dyno. Was moms favorite engine for 6 years in her new cars, sure made a 7 to13 year old a happy son. When she couldn't order one she just switched to Lincoln. I also had 2 of them myself, both went into a 63 1/2, a stock 1 and a built 1, never knowing their true hp.

Similar thing I did for a '76 Toyota FJ40 L'Cruiser with broken mechanical fuel pump. 12oz soda can with gasoline and a pin hole in bottom to drip drip drip into the 2 barrel so I could steer it out of the road. Then had to remove the pump and drain the contaminated oil. Got an electric pump for temporary drivie home.

You always have rare engines and cars in the shop. Even back in the day 426 Hemis weren't common. My friend Charlie wanted to order a 1970 Hemi Road Runner but the warranty thing changed his mind. He got the 440 Six Pack and a 4speed.

Finally a 427 Fomoco enters the den of Nick's Garage.
All you need is a L72 427 Chevy Engine & the battle of the big 3.
I can see why you absolutely hate snow, after this video I am on your side, no more snow no more cold weather.
Beautiful car trailer that is a work of art, keen to see what hp this 427 pushes on the dyno.
