California for warm and round powerchords or Santana style leads. British for anything Marshall, so rock and blues probably. American for a fender sound, the lead sound is great, but the clean and slight overdrive does really well, for Blues and country or raggae or even nice pop stuff!
This is the BEST way to demo a pedal - and I love the constant tweaking while someone else plays idea! (No Sarcasm!) If I hadn't already bought the thing, I would have on the strength of this video alone... Keep them coming, Henning!
Totally agree. Best & most useful way to demo a pedal. Got one arriving in the next day or so & I found this really helpful. Can't wait to try it through various amps & with different guitars.
That's how I was convinced to buy the Joyo California pedal, it was great to hear all the knob selections and I was in and out of my local guitar shop confident with my purchase.
In an apartment with headphones, this thing is divine. You gain presence and stuff that's not as harsh as just adding a reverb/chrous/OD to the chain. I adore this pedal and this was one of the "I'm sold!" videos (the other by intheblues).
This series of Joyo pedal definitely worth the money. Affordable and sounds great. I love my California Sound. Actually for those who slam it is just simply because the brand Joyo is not "high end" enough for them.
I've got one of these and it sounds really good. Can do anything from very subtle overdrive to high gain. Its a very versatile pedal with the 3 band eq plus the voice knob.I usually run it with the eq knobs at 1oclock and the voice and drive knobs around 3/4 upIt give me a great sound. Roll back the guitar volume and it cleans up nicely.I also have the joyo ultimate OD which is kind of midrange heavy and not as versatile.I like this pedal better. The 2 OD pedals combined will give a super saturated over the top distortion.
Your videos are the best pedal reviews on youtube. Thank you thank you thank you. You are eclipsing Brett Kingman! Thank you for taking the trouble to record so beautifully, so many youtube reviews sound like they have been played through a laptop speakers. You are the man, my friend. And this guitar player, wow he is good. Humour as well, all is good.
Great bang for buck pedal ... I run one of these between the mic & PA for harmonica playing. Great tone, lots of volume, no feedback, low price and a whole lot easier than carrying an amp around!
well, the expensive guitar and all that other stuff was to show that this pedal can play in that league. It does sound great with other guitars and amps as well... for the price it is completely unbeatable... the player... well, can't help you there... he's great!
Greetings from Fife,Scotland.Great work on the gear demo's man, professional, informative and highly entertaining ! I already own the American, and the Sweet Baby is on the way, sounds fantastic.Keep on keeping on,Henning.
Wow, it sounds great. I'm guessing that Gary Moore (4:30 - 8:30) would be happy with this pedal as well :) As you said - for this price it's just ridiculously good.
First class guitarist, some very nice playing and using techniques for the sound and expression not just to toss them off. I don't like fenders, but this diezel is in love with this pedal so much they should get married. A $4,000 Diezel with a $30 crunch box, sounds odd, but it works.
Recently I became addicted to these Joyo pedals. I watched videos on top of different videos and picked what I liked. Out of all four of their pre amp pedals the American is my favorite with the Vintage Overdrive stacked up next to it. The pre amp pedals sound like crap out of a tube amp in my opinion unless you go into the effects loop. But out of a PA system yea they rock. I have two different boards set up to use on the PA. I have the British stacked with the Extreme Metal, Ultimate Overdrive and the Ammoon Echo first in line from the guitar. On my other board I have the American and the Vintage Overdrive. The AC Tone and the California just sit around and collect dust. All four sound very similar to my ears but the AC Tone is a bit high pitched and the California is so much a combination of the American and British I just don't see much of a need for it in the chain. Everyone says for the money you can't go wrong with these Joyo pedals. It's more than a value for the money folks. They sound far better than what they sell for compared to custom pedals. China got their act together with these. And your missing out if your not trying them. But hey keep paying those high end prices for a custom job if that's your thing.
I wish all demos were this well done(No wasted time, showed the eq's FULL range in action with good playing). I jus wish u would've showed the direct sound for a bit but there are lots other vids that show that. Again, Good Job, Thanks
This "sound" pedals from Joyo can give you a lot of very usable tones for the money. I think they're great. I'm gonna get one as soon as possible. Great demo. Thanks!
I run it in a katana mk2 power amp input and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. The katana has a class ab power amp and it reacts really well to this pedal.
love it! Beautiful clear sounding pedal! HB/Joyo are making some really fine pedals for (freaking ;) ridiculous prices! Great vid by the way, love your channel. Though I missed the coffee in this one.
I have a huge request called "Budget amp tuning" episode . There are lot of guys like me who started guitar journey with cheap equipment. As long as modyfing guitar is relatively easy, amps are something more complicated. I am user of fender 85 SS amp but i wanted to go into more valvy/ less transistory sound. I found out Tech21 and its cheap alternative Joyo American Sound (30 $) . Putting this pedal into my efects loop absolutely changed my tone. I know that analog pedal in ss amp is not exactly what gives you tube amp but in this case i felt in love with that sound.I would love to see episode in which you take just normal SS amp and try to get as much as posible from it. Of course you can always buy tube amp, but is some countries 600 $ is two mounths sallary. I know you are Berkley professional but you impact a lot of home-amatours with rather limited budget. Thanks :)
I fully agree... it's not right, yet... for many guitar players having an affordable pedal is a reason to buy it... those who want the real deal will buy the real deal... I understand that this is no excuse...
I bought the Caline version... it was $4 cheaper and has really cool graphics😂. I had originally bought it as the base for a small club/patio gig rig so I could just run into the PA .... when I got to playing around with it I absolutely fell in love with some of those tones.
@@iosifsimon it is! They are basically a Tech 21 Blonde. Do they sound exactly the same? No. But for a fraction of the price no one will ever be able to tell, especially in a band setting.
Cool idea, maybe I make one of those videos, but somehow I doubt it would change the sound a lot, the clean channel shouldn't color the sound too much.
What a great video guys, my compliments. It would also be interesting to hear the pedal with no amp after it (afterall, it's an amp sim). Maybe to keep in mind for future tests?
Hi.... I also like the SWEET BABY for open chords and bluesy stuff and the DELUXE CRUNCH to pick up where the SWEET BABY stopped... both are great... if you have more money to spend, the JETTER dual pedals are unbeatable... check them out on my channel...

EytschPi42 The EHX magnum 44 power amp pedal has a nice warm clean tone that doesnt "color" any effect i use into it, i usually run a Behringer v amp through it with good results, but i want out of digital v amp and thought this analog American would be better..i will report back when i get it in mail and try it! Thanks for the great reviews, ive watched them all..
Try it direct to PA (or PC interface) or into the return of an amp. This is how this pedal reall sound well. It works exactly like an amp. I use it direct with all my pedals before it, just like with my amp. Another thing. When it puts "Bypass" and not "True Bypass" means that it's not true bypass. If you try to use without batteries or DC power it won't let the signal pass.
This pedal is an amp simulator, so wouldn't it make more sense to demo it directly into say a mixer and full range speakers, so we can hear the actual sound it delivers? Of course its useable as a drive pedal, but most players wouldn't buy it for this..
YOu are totally right, but I didn't know that at the time. I did that for the other pedals in the series. However, they are usable direct, but not great... but they are GREAT in front of an amp.
EytschPi42 I ll look up the other videos, and thanks for posting them. I use simulation pedals quite a bit, mostly live, and these pedals come in such a great price, its nice to check them out..
EytschPi42 For what its worth, Thanks for not running it directly to a mixer etc. I was interested in seeing how this will enable me to change the scope of sound through a VOX AC15. So yes, in fact this video is great for me to hear. I guess we cant please all the people all the time.....:) Thanks from Australia

Quick question. Right now i own SS Fender Eighty Five Amp with amazing clean sound. But the overdrive chanel in this amp isounds bad for me. I am looking for overdrive pedal wich will help me get the valve/tube overdrive with my SS Amp. Is this Joyo American a right choise for me ?
Great review, I am thinking in get one for recording straight from the pedal to the sound card interface. But, in the review the pedal is going to the amplifier so I supouse that I will not get the gain that you get in the video review, I am right? Thanks
Thats not good mine works well but the sockets are bcoming loose, soundwise though an awesome overdrive the no clip setting with boost is an awesome drive tone!
Do you think this would breathe some life into the lacklustre clean channel of my Peavey Valveking? I love the lead channel on it and want to keep using the amp, but I really need a better clean.
Dear EytschPi42.I have been reading that the Joyo American Sound sounds best when used thru the effects loop of an amp primarily becuase the pedal itself is a preamp and therefore best placed in between the amps pre amp and power amp..Have you tried it this way and with what results? Thank you.
Ive a question, what is the output impedance on these pedals? Can you go into a line level input on a small mixer or do you have to use instrument (high z) level inputs only? Thank you. Fine demo as always.
What cab are you using with the Diezel. I have the same head but my clean sound is not as crisp as that. I'm toying with trading in for a fender amp until I heard this! Also where is the reverb coming from as this amp doesn't have any so assume post production reverb or something in the FX loop?
For the sake of clarity, I must add some detail. I've played in my house and on small gigs (up to 15w amps) with it, and it never made that noise you say people talk about. I don't know what would be to use it in a 100w+ situation. But my opinion on this is that the American Sound (and the other ones of this "true tone" series) are not to be "professional" tools; if one is to live of music, then one must not use some cheapo gear, go get Sansamp (to start with) and other pedals of that range and up.
Thank you for your reply. Of course I am aware that this pedal is far from pro stuff. I'm not in a 100w+ position either. But no matter whats the price, I like the tone. I got mid-range equipment and some of that hums anyway, so I'm trying to avoid a hum after hum situation. Anyway, I'm gonna get this. C'mon 30 bucks! A noisegate will do the rest if needed.
I am running my Katana clean on the acoustic channel for the vocal and guitar signal. The American Sound functions as my preamp on the pedalboard and I wouldn't wanna trade it!
I want a demo that shows what all the pedal can do. Not some kids playing ability. Just played the same 3 strings. Theres 3 others that i wanted to hear with the voice and gain up.
Mate. Appreciated and all that, but you really don't need the pedal to do any of that with that amp and cabinet. I think what people would like to hear is a demo of the pedal going straight into a computer with perhaps a little post reverb. Thanks though!
Hi Darren, I did that on the other three True Tone pedals, but it isn't really a great recording solution. They do sound great in front of tubes, but by themselves they are no more than a quick recording solution for a demo.
You can use it as an overdrive crancking up the "drive" knob, but it is a low gain drive. For a more agressive drive you should try another pedal of this series, the California (which is to be a Mesa Boogie emulator).
California for warm and round powerchords or Santana style leads. British for anything Marshall, so rock and blues probably. American for a fender sound, the lead sound is great, but the clean and slight overdrive does really well, for Blues and country or raggae or even nice pop stuff!
Sorry, may I ask you....
What is a Jojo. Dont understand it.

I'm running my Joyo California through a vox mv50 clean, so I'm using the line out / headphone jack at the back of the unit.
Yes, I noticed the bypass issue on the TruEtone pedals... my mistake, fixed it on the ACTone, on the others it will have to remain wrong...
This series of Joyo pedal definitely worth the money. Affordable and sounds great. I love my California Sound. Actually for those who slam it is just simply because the brand Joyo is not "high end" enough for them.

Hi Brian, when I did the direct recording test in the other true tone pedals I just went straight into the audio interface, so I used a line level.
EytschPi42 Great!! Thanks so much. Exactly what I wanted ro hear. Ill be buying one today then. Thanks again.
Hm, Would this work well as a solo boost pedal in a metal/hardrock type of situation?
This one is for classic fender tones. You would do better with another pedal of this series, the California, which is to be a Mesa Boogie emulator.
What cab are you using with the Diezel. I have the same head but my clean sound is not as crisp as that. I'm toying with trading in for a fender amp until I heard this!
Also where is the reverb coming from as this amp doesn't have any so assume post production reverb or something in the FX loop?
The cab is a Fender Hot Rod Combo without the amp in it and the reverb is post production (probably TC powercore from the System 6000)
Is voice the same as volume?
can i connect this straight to speak that supports mic in, or into pc mic in/line in?
Yes and yes! That's the original intended use
Another great video. Awesome
what kind of guitar is that? sounds nice!
All people and magazines I read say this pedal creates a lot of noise.
Did you suppress it for this vid?
Well, I own one, and it does not. I don't know what are they talking about.
Well, that is good news.
Thank you!
Sounds really great for the money
Your buy link does not work
Thank you for the reply. Which Joyo pedal has the best/most sustain for leads?
It would be bool to hear a demo of this pedal going straig into the power amp of a tube combo or head.
Sounds great for the price. Worth messing around with.
Hello! Can I this be use directly to headphone?
yes . with a mono to stereo jack to get the guitar sound on right and left .
@@moshezarviv1252 did u mean it will really work just like an amp with headphone socket?
@@wikkiwikki8190 not just like but close to....
@@moshezarviv1252 i mean, is there a possibility that the output of the pedal will work if i plug my headphone directly?
@@wikkiwikki8190 yes .as I said above" with a mono to stereo jack to get the guitar sound on right and left "
You go through the amp or to return?
Whats the backing track?
something I wrote
Has anyone tried this as a preamp with a Boss Katana?
They do sound great in front of tubes, but by themselves they are no more than a quick recording solution for a demo.
is that overdrive pedal?
You can use it as an overdrive crancking up the "drive" knob, but it is a low gain drive. For a more agressive drive you should try another pedal of this series, the California (which is to be a Mesa Boogie emulator).
que musica é essa?
no final do vídeo
Cezar Santos , Gary Moore empty rooms
show, pena que no meu setup ele joga muito ruido !!
2:22 - 2:3O my favorite setting
Hey EytschPi42, any difference between Joyo and Harley Benton pedals? Especially American Sound, because I'm looking to buy it.
Nope, Same Thing!
Cool. Thanks mate!
hola sería muy bueno si ponen subtítulos en español
