Hi, I'm an econ-junior at LUMS. What you have talked about in the video is absolutely right. Really glad that you summarized a critical aspect in a relatively short video 🙌
Hi Your communication skills are very good. I have very poor communication skills due to which I have struggled alot even after studying from nust and fast. I have seen people who have less knowledge but good communication skills and they are at very good places. I think this is a very positive side of LUMS as graduates from LUMS are very vocal.
Hey there sister! can you let me know how much tough is it going to be for me at LUMS. I just got accepted into SDASB (although BS biology was my first preference) As a student having pre-med background, which major should I choose? It'd be really helpful if you could guide me somewhat. Lots of love.
Hi Sareen, I went to LUMS with a similar F.Sc. background and trust me it was an amazing experience! You'll have a year to take different courses and then decide your major so take courses that you find intriguing not because they have market value and you'll do great. Decide your major based on those courses, don't decide anything right now!
@@AnamSaeedNow yes i do have interest in CS and i have got CS in GIKI but same time Bsc HONORS in LUMS. I dont know what to do. Bcz i have 70% mind to CS and can't leave that and on the same time LUMS is a uni i want to
Nicely explained. However I heard from a number of people that Financial Support is a hoax. One should really hand to mouth (e.g. an inspection requiring home not even having a tv set). Keep up the good work
Thanks a lot, Even though the financial support is not a hoax! trust me i have seen so many students getting the support they really need who are not hand to mouth, rather in middle class but can't afford to study here
That is exactly how it should be, I know a bunch of people who don't have a 'TV set in their homes' and there is always a kid who deserves such scholarships. But then again, these households are living paycheck to paycheck. So I think what LUMS is doing is this aspect, is admirable.
Being a graduate from NUST and elder brother graduating from LUMS, I can feel the difference you are talking about! I do hope that graduates transfer that urge of self development to their peers at work too. 🙌
What are the differences that you have seen/observed between the two unis? With regards to grooming, exposure and holistically building the knowledge and character of a student? I am a junior so would highly appreciate your input.
@@shayanyazdanie9322 From my experience (Finance), NUST was very strict in what they teach and independent thinking was not much encouraged (talking about 2010 era). Grooming wise, NUST was very good as I was exposed to students from all over country with mixed backgrounds including some army officers studying with us also (it was not like a closed bubble). That level of discipline helped me in Europe now in certain areas. I did studied open courses in LUMS (Political Science from Rasul Baksh Raes) and enjoyed the freedom to share thoughts and relaxed atmosphere.
@@shayanyazdanie9322 He liked it and got good job as LUMS got good networking potential. However he also agrees with the video that there is disconnect with the real society as he struggled with business. It can be matter of luck but his friends from LUMS with no business background in family also struggled to set up business.
Excuse me please help me I am very confused and anxious please give this commenet a read. I have been a straight A student all my life. Have 98.9% in matric and 90.27% in Fsc. I was interested in mathematics from a young age so I joined QAU islamabad faculty of natural sciences. There I scored 4.0 gpa and first rank in my semester and now I am just done with my second semester and and CGPA of 3.9 (due to one professor's unfair marking otheriwise perfect gpa in every single course). So I am on the Dean's honour list and also an executive member of a literary society with one year of dedicated service to the campus community. Now the problem is that I am getting interested a lot in theoretical computer science and now I regret that I should have taken admission in lums computer science. I took SAT in december 2022 and had 1400 score (near perfect on the math section). Now I am too confused can I transfer to LUMS this spring and enroll in computer science directly as computer science and mathematics degree have a lot of common courses so first year would be roughly the same courses that I took i.ecalculus1,2 english 1,2 and general science 1,2 statistics 1,2 etc ? Please I want to discuss this issue with you in detail I am too perplexed it feels like I have simply wasted my life beacuse of my lack of awarenes of myself and educational opportnities available to me. Also guid me will it be fine then to join lums in my fourth semester? Do you know cases of such transfer admissions etc? Please I hope you will understand my situation.
Hi, yes I know a couple of transfer cases, you should definitely apply and transfer if you're so passionate about it! But keep in mind that you might find a way to pursue it here at your current university too. Anyhow if you still want to transfer, LUMS can ask you to repeat courses, etc. which can delay your graduation by a few semesters. Try to understand these pros and cons before jumping onto any conclusions. You're so young that this time you're calling a waste, is actually the best time for self awareness and trust me a year or two doesn't matter in long run!
@@AnamSaeedNow Thank you so much it means alot! Now I have also been accepted into GIKI software engineering but I only find the lums CS program according to my tastes so it is only lums I am so sure. Can you please elaborate on retaking courses? Will this affect my overall gpa in lums etc? I am so sorry I feel so dumb as I have no idea at all. Like see this spring if I apply and get transferred I would start in lums with three semesters wort of work done here. Now the problem is that is it really possible like to transfer from my current mathematics major to lums computer science major? I think it might be because I heard that lums students only chose their major in second (sophomore) year. So will I be at a serious loss? I also want to say that I have very fast and deep learning capacities so I am confident that I will be able to integrate into almost anything and can take any number of possible coombinations of courses and can perform really nice so is there a concept of summer semesters etc or something like that? I am sorry I am taking your too much time but this is the last hope that someone will answer my doubts so that some of confusion and anxiety may lessen. Thanks alot in advance!
At this age and with this intelligence that you got accepted at GIKI and LUMS, a year or two is not a big deal! Trust me on that In the long run, two semesters don't make a huge difference. Go where you feel you'll fit in and you'll love the courses. I'm not sure about GIKI, but LUMS will give you a lot of choices to choose courses from too. Also, keep in mind that both are amazing institutions, and transfer students usually just end up taking more courses in the summers and perhaps an extra semester as compared to regular students.
Maybe start by not identifying yourself with your university. Its been years since you left it but your whole identity is circled around it. Why do you think that is? Maybe its becuase it makes you feel better than other people? The days of universities are over. Its all about effort now. With cousera, edx etc its going to become worse.
She mentioned in the beginning that she's an educationist who has an experience of teaching in different universities and is here to guide the individuals who need career counselling!
thats because Business isn't the only field to focus on for NUST unlike lums or iba which are basically only known for their business studies, but even after all that NUST ranks #2 in Pakistan for Business Studies, and once in coming 2-3 years NUST gets the AACSB accreditation, it might also become #1 in Business schools as well across the country. Secondly, the brand name of "NUST" is better than all other unis in Pak as it provides such a vast range of disciplines to pursue, this year they have also started MBBS. So its a much better overall University than Lums n Iba. It also has the biggest campus in the country.

That’s true
Grooming, communication & negotiation skills taught at LUMS are extremely important
I don’t think so it’s fault of Lums for creating a save environment for students, real world should also be safe like lums unfortunately which is not.

Of course these days the right niche in CS has a lot of scope in terms of returns but that can only be there when you're really good at what you do

LUMS doesn't directly require that for undergraduate, there are opportunities of scholarships except NOP and also you can apply for financial aid.
