Thank you. I have just bought an El Grand myself and really appreciate the time you have taken to share this information with us. This is so very helpful!
A lot of great work again. This video was a fantastic reference for my daughter in law to fast track all the features and functions of the seat configurations and all the little surprises and options. Their design and focus on customisation in this era was incredible for its time. Our car culture is all about compliance theirs is on the customer experience.
I’ve watched loads of these elgrand videos , never seen one as detailed as yours , appreciate you time ,and explaining all these functions, 👍👍👍👍👍👍Well done
Why Nissan never sold this in the UK is a mystery. Even with the big petrol engine, the styling and comfort would have been unequalled. Who wants a smoky rattley diesel anyway. Will be looking for one shortly.
This was so good! I’ve been looking at so many different van options and saw a few of these listed. They look really nice and are quite inexpensive in comparison to other vans. I keep looking for the catch. So far all I can find is the fuel economy. I love all the little hidden compartments. I would never have known most of them were there even if I owned one. This van has just made it to the top of my list!
I got to the stage when I thought how much more can this do, whisks my Stepwagon had more off things like that. But never mind been thinking about one of these ore Toyota, but there more going on in the Elgrand thanks for the video
I absolutely love that vehicle, as for being an eight seater, well I'd call it six & a half. There are only two rear seats, the middle row is two & a half seats. So you could quite comfortably sit in that vehicle, six adults & one child. Saying that I wouldn't turn my nose up at owning one but I think even the entry model would be too expensive for me. Thanks for sharing the video with us& to be honest with you, I have never seen or even heard of those vehicles before. by the way, great review, one of the best i've ever seen. ❤❤
Sorry iam a bit late John. Absolutely amazing car. They had to be some sort of design statement, with low profit margins if any. Would swoop my xjs for one.
a bit jealous about those folding back seats 😉 in my company car T6.1 van, you could, in theory, remove the rear bench. if you happen to have a fork lift lingering about in your garage, as the rr bench is said to weigh appx 200lbs, so you can't remove it very easily. seats can be shoved along some rails, though, and the back rest folded to give some generous luggage space. but that Elgrand seems to be lightyears ahead in sophistication ....
Thanks for taking the time to show us this great vehicle. We had a delica, its very similar in seat Configurations, it was a great vehicle. We now have apug 5008 mk1 face lift. Its interior is rubbish in Comparison, it has sharp edges, rear floor bins have carpet lids which have collapsed, the seats don't slide or move m tilt easily. Etc etc. That's over 20 yrs later and imo still the euro manufacturers have no nothing to compare with Japan innovation on interiors.
Thanks for this. I am researching my next purchase (which will be second hand as usual) and want it to be something that easily becomes a sleeper but also can be a people mover *and* transport furniture items at the drop of a hat. I thought I was looking for a unicorn! And the best thing is these are "cheap as chips", second hand here in Australia. My short list so far was Toyota Rukus and Kia Carnival/Grand Carnival (both of which my mechanic has approved - but only the larger L motor Kias). Now I am going to be asking him about the Elgrand. It just bullied its way onto the list and straight to the top!
great video. The main power switch to enable 110volt, Do you know what appliances that would run ?. eg would you have a kettle to boil water for coffee?. I am based in NZ which is 240 volt.
Great Video thanks , I have an XL and as you say has a few additional features such as the 'moon roof' , but the seat configurations are pretty much the same - love our Ellie cant see why they are not more popular given all the features and comfort that it provides. Thanks again for the video
Hi Pixelvid. Unlike the number one UK grey import (Eunos) most petrol heads will never get to experience the joy of an Elgrand. Thats because if you are not in the know, its a fwd van and probably diesel.
Hi. Fantastic video. Really well made and extremely informative. I didn't know half of that stuff! Thanks for taking the time to film and upload it. A couple of questions: the rear remote controls for audio/visual and heating/ventilation - where can you get the words on the buttons in English? Also, you mentioned the 110v inverter in the back can easily be changed to 240v. Can you provide anymore information on that? Thanks again.
This was mega helpful for me having just acquired an e51 2.5 wish it had all the mod cons like yours does but it doesn't, only the one motorised sliding door and what appears to be an aftermarket satnav/dvd player, wish it also had that 100v outlet too but it doesn't.. still made up with it however!
Thanks for the video John. I can see its over a year ago now but ive just got an E51 S2 so this has been infomative. Still cant figure out how it is an 8 seater though? Can the 1st row be used for 4 people? tia
Hi Jim Some have six totaly seperate seats (tends to be in the highest spec cars) but Most, including mine have two seat belts in the front 3 in the middle row and 3 in the back row.
From the tailgate to the back of the front seats, it’s about 2 metres or 6ft 6in , take all the rear seats out, put a r&r bed in, and fridge sink cooker etc… down one side, and you’ll be sorted! Whatever you can do in a VW T4/5 you be able to do in an Elgrand.
Thanks so much for the video, I'm thinking about Alphard/Elgrand for a long time now and finally a video that shows how practical and adjustable it is. That being said the mpg and insurance for imported vehicle are the biggest obstacles :/ Any ideas on Alphard hybrids?
Hi Daniel👍. I think you could fit an aftermarket drop-down screen if you can find one in an appropriate size to fit the gap between the two sunroofs I doubt an original would fit, as its flush to the headlining and I believe your headlining will be different in profile due to the sunroofs.
Definitely get a new aftermarket screen, I’ve got the original drop down screen in mine, and although it is very novel how it opens automatically, the resolution is s****t by today’s standards!
Hello. I am seriously considering buying one of these in the near future to accommodate our 8 person family. Whats the reliability like on them? Are parts easy enough to get for them? I am sturggling to find anywhere that comprehensively goes over what these are like to live with and would really appreciate some insight.
Hi Josh. The known reliability issues most associated with these beauties, appear to be:- Wheel bearings (as experienced by me) Fuel gauge issues Catalytic converters breaking down. The engines are well proven and relatively unstressed thanks to the Auto gearbox. It can be challenging to find nice examples that have not been lowered and blinged up. But its one of the more popular Grey imports to the UK. True Grey imports will always be harder to find parts and specialist assistance for than domestic products. (by true grey import I exclude for instance the mazda euros that is just a jdm variant of a uk available product) But they are reasonably well served with online forums and specialists. For me the sole reason to move my on was the fuel consumption
Thanks for your response. It sounds like I might have to make friends with some people in certain circles to make ownership easier, if I go for one. With regards to fuel consumption, what are we talking? I am expecting something outrageous like mid to low twenties😅
Mine had them on the outer two middle row seats. However, their are many different interior configurations and seat styles fitted to Elgrand E51's so check on any individual vehicle you are interested in as some wont have any.
Available in 2.5 Litre and 3.5 Litre engines 2.5 litre is less peppy but doesnt give significant improvements in Mpg. AWD is available and if fitted is Full time. Mine is RWD only
There is no easy way around it Marty. Im good at driving economically, and mine is in good condition. 28 Mpg is the best anyone should realistically expect on a good long run of Motorways and or Dual carriageways. 23Mpg is a realistic everyday estimate if you are not thinking about economy.
The 2.5 is just as thirsty as the 3.5, but nowhere near as powerful, the best recourse is to have it converted to run on LPG, which is less than half the price of petrol, but make sure it's available near where you live first, a lot of stations are no longer stocking it, especially Shell and BP.
Hi Laura. If you mean (by proper?) Inertia reel lap and diagonal seat belts. There are 2 in each row. so driver front passenger and 4 in the back. It has lap belts on the rear two middle seats making 8 in total

Fabulous informative video. We have an Elgrand and love it ❤

Ahhhh. 🤗. Thanks joshywatkins1
Seeing a lot of these on the roads now. For a bottom spec car the interior is fantastic
Epic levels of design have gone into that interior. I actually think those seats look more comfortable than the leather alternative 👍
I love the look of leather in my jags but I have to say you are right. You dont tend to see velour, or whatever this cloth is known as , anymore.

You can find the stick on labels in ebay, appro £10 for the dash ones and £10 for the remote control ones.

Thanks
Very well explained thankyou
You are welcome
I went with the old Elgrand over the new one due to the shape of it, a bit like the old Bedford vans.
Great video! Are they reliable?
I'm still deciding between Toyota Alphard and Nissan Elgrand. Which one do you suggest?
which one you bought?

£280 per year currently

Get one that's converted to LPG, less than half the price of petrol, if you can find a stockist that is.
