I Remember when the darth Vader tie and A wing retailed for 80£ and all the reviewers bashed the price, compared to this it seems reasonable, especially for play for kids.
This is max a $40 set - I genuinely can't see how LEGO can keep these prices going like this. They are completely out of reach for average families now.
They are price gouging and blaming it on inflation. You will see more and more people buying the knock off version for 1/4 the price on Ali or Wish.
They are relaying on the adults obsessed with nostalgic starwars.

For that price, it should of come with two Jabbas henchmen, I mean there's no bad guys on the skiff, so basically Lando could of just drove off into the sun sets😂😂
Yeah the thing I'm the most disappointed is that it only comes with the main characters, 2 generic gangsters would have been perfect.
This set needed one of thoses goblin like guards. I have the 2012 version and the 2015 carbon freezing chamber and I'm laughing.

Exactly what I'm thinking, without the guard they could just steer it away from jabba and wave goodbye😂 I Hate it when they cheap out on minifigs this way, if it had the figures it has now + the weequay guard, I would likely buy it, without him though I'm gonna pass and wait for the next iteration¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We pay extra for sand. Also the sarlacc pit is a pit. It goes into the ground, not resting on a sand hill. Please everyone, wait for all these new sets to on on sale. They aren’t going anywhere. They will come back in stock. We allow these prices to continue by not being able to contain ourselves.

Dude what are you smoking. The whole reason the sand is included in this set is to give off the illusion that the sarlacc is in its pit. The monster is clearly in the ground not on top of it. Without the sand how do you actually think they’d do it? Look at every other sarlacc put we’ve gotten. If you sit it on a table it won’t look like a pit it sits on top of the table. That’s why the sand is here, to make it look like a pit. You need glasses?

Yup, I've reached a point I never knew I could where I genuinely don't want to go buy sets in launch day because the prices are awful. Frankly I'm sick of hearing the inflation excuse it doesn't apply to Lego when they make a 30% profit margins when the standard expected profit margins is 10% for most businesses.

LEGO is already a premium product, but this price is outrageous. Customers can control what they do and don’t buy, and if they stop buying absurdly priced sets like this, LEGO will back off and drop the prices or retire the product early.

The last skiff that had Lando and an accurate ROTJ Boba Fett was 9496, which was $25 retail. The skiff and the sarlac are really nice, but the mini figs are inferior and the price laughable. It’s already being offered on discount which tells you even retailers think this is overpriced. This set should be $50 max.

It was Lego's mistake, the machine must have gotten the torso wrong and attached the arms backwards. It was NOT an intended feature. Lando doesn't wear his disguise costume backwards in the film.

The hand rail that movies to the side is it show the part in the movie where the rail gets brocken off. so its a nice addon.
I got really into collecting lego again recently for the first time since I was a kid and I’m now just thinking I picked a really bad time for it. Every time a new set comes out I almost always end up thinking “oh, that’s a cool set, shame about the price. Guess I’m not getting it.”

In my case I grew up with the clone wars era sets and didnt have money to buy them since, well, i was a kid. Now that i earn some money it seems either there are no sets that i like or the ones i like are way overpriced, I feel you.

This is refreshing, especially from David. I’m getting sick of channels trying to justify expensive sets. For the amount of stuff you get, it’s nowhere near worth it.
A couple of things. Nien Numb hasn’t been in a LEGO set before but a supposed relative Ten Numb has been in minifig form twice with no molded heads.
Secondly I think you confirm there is actually a Jabba’s sail barge headed our way when you say that the skiff looks like it’s UCS quality and it makes sense since it’s supposed to pair with a UCS set… :)

@@brickstep8424 the old one is retired it’s probably more expensive now also the old one is like half the price but the new one is double the pieces has 3 unique minifigures a new mold and inflation is hell so it’s not really that outrageous that being said it should have been like $60 max

Should have had the Sarlac pit as a gift with purchase with the Jabba sail barge and the skiff as a $40 set with all the figs. I would have preferred a play scale sized barge instead of something the size of my TV set.

I will buy this set because of nostalgia. I missed on last two Sarlacc pit sets (despite wanting them so badly) because I was a kid and "bigger" licensed LEGO sets were out of my parents wallet price range. Since I have my own money now, I really need this. Definitely not for that retail price, though.

I do want to say I think the battle of peridia (sorry for the bad spelling) took the $55 price tag for this set. Granite neither of these sets are worthy of an $80 price tag
very nice to see this review in conjunction with the Battle on Peridea set, because the comments over there are talking about how you're shilling for a product you're genuinely excited about (albeit one that is maybe a bit overpriced) whereas here you're certainly not shilling at all and giving some extremely valid criticism with its price point in mind. this really is why i trust you so much as a reviewer, especially compared to people who really do just want to nitpick every single detail and label anything below a 10/10 as a bad set
The battle on peridia set is really really bad tho, which is why people were accusing him of shilling calling it “one of the best sets of 2024”

The 2012 Desert skiff was my favourite Lego set of all time I was trying to put it back together this year but then 2 days later someone said there were leaks that a new one is coming out, so I'm definitely getting this set when it comes out

I also commend you for being critical, which in my opinion you always are very fair and don’t understand some of the previous comments saying you’re biased, I never got that feeling. I totally agree that this is extremely overpriced, but if the UCS Barge rumors are true, it’s gonna be very difficult for me to not want this side by side to the barge 🥲 which I think was the point of the pricing of this set as you’ve stated. I wish I had the willpower to wait for a price decrease, and I shouldn’t complain about the price if I’m getting it once the barge comes out, again, if the rumors are true. One thing that is a huge miss from this set is LEGO not going the extra mile detail-wise and not giving us a ROTJ Boba Fett. The 2017 was more accurate in this regard. I would’ve also appreciated a weequay skiff guard.
I make an Amazon registry with all the sets, send it to the family before Christmas, then I buy what's remaining on the list after the holidays once it goes on sale. It's saved me so much money.
I hope this year teaches Lego that nobody is gonna buy stuff this expensive no matter how good it is

I've seen a lot of people saying they will buy this set when it's on sale. Do you think that's why some sets lately have been overpriced? So lego can "reduce" the price during a sale to what it should actually be. Instead of releasing it at £50 and then reducing it more?
Yes. When I was younger Lego was never on sale because it was the most popular toy. Now in some stores sets are launching with a discount already applied, yet Lego keeps making billions of dollars and record profits most years.
I'll be picking this set up when it's on sale and no sooner. I've basically not touched most of the 2024 sets because I'm waiting for a sale. Except the clone Vs droid battlepack, it went on sale down to £18 and I've now amassed 34 (I wanted to have 100 plain phase 2's hence 34)
It would be nice if those 25th Anniversary platforms came with a clear case cover that mounted over the minifig. It would display well and be easier to keep dusted.
David. I remain consistently appreciative of your accurate and unbiased reviews despite your ongoing relationship with LEGO. I personally think the nose on this skiff should’ve had more point and less of an acute angle if you look at the original source material. The very first they ever came out withcaptured that well in that 1999/2000 style. Given what they were able to do shape wise with Boba Fett starships, I’m pretty sure they could have combo different slope shapes together to achieve this better than what they did here
£70 is ridiculous but I love this set, will probably wait for a discount.

These prices are insane, this set should be 50€ tops. Between these ridiculous prices and scalpers they are gonna end up pussing a lot of people out of the hobby.
Have the 2016 or 17 one. This definitely would work better as a display set. Only thing I’d really care about are the mini figures that I don’t have from the other one but all the extra details aren’t what I feel like everyone wants from the set.
Will be waiting for a sale. Hopefully, for a third or more off, at that price point, I feel less annoyed.
Add the second skiff, raise them both up so they can actually be above the pit. Add in some of the guards that Luke takes out when he does the springboard move. Give Boba Fett his pauldron so it actually looks like Return of the Jedi Boba. And then maybe adjust the pit so it looks more like a pit in the ground and not a weird hill. All of a sudden $80 feels perfect. Hell at that point, maybe it would need to be closer to $100 and not feel so bad either.
I'll buy it if it goes under 60, 50 even. But it might be possible to mod it for display by attaching the skiff over the sarlacc with the transparent pieces.
For some reason lando's torso is facing the wrong side despite the arms being towards the front. Is that an official thing by lego or just a printing mistake?
This is such a great set. The builds and that Luke minifigure look great, and Nien Nunb is a really good exclusive. But the price is just terrible. I won’t pass on this set, but I will wait for it to go on sale.

I remember when you could get the entire sail barge for $80. Set 6210 had a skiff, sarlacc pit and one of the best sail barge designs for $75. I get inflation is a thing, but like this is absurd.
I will buy this set just because I don't have any version of sarlacc pit. I agree that more transparent pieces should be added to make the set more action-packed.

Depending on the Sail Barge quality and price I might pick this up with my points when I grab that. If I skip on that then I'll continue to save up and grab both when I see them on sale somewhere if ever.

I think that if they downsized the sarlacc and included a second skiff for $80, I'd buy it. But as is, I can get a retired skiff for less than $80 and get the nostalgia along with it.

This is so funny that this set uses the $40 box size from 2015-2018 but costs $80.
If we’re talking price per piece, the inflation adjusted average ppp is about thirteen cents per piece, NOT ten cents per piece as was the standard ten years ago. With that standard, this set should be priced at around $70. So still a bit pricey imo but not as big a deal as people make it out to be.

These prices are really getting ridiculous. Here in Norway they have priced it at 1099 NOK, which is about 104 USD. When I was a kid you could get the big flagship sets for that price. I understand inflation and licensing fees, but this is just wild.
Boba Fett being inaccurate isn't surprising because Lego have made this mistake with other characters before but him not having the cape piece feels really lazy and kinda insulting, especially with the price of the set
I can say this, it is one of the better design skifs to date. But for 80$…… that is to much for me
If I didn't have set 9496 (the desert skiff from 2012) I'd just buy a never opened one (or slightly used one) for +/- $50 and get Han and Chewbacca for an extra $5.
The bigger Sarlac Pit is not worth 25 bucks (and u get a unique pirate figure instead of the anniversary one)
PS. I don't remember if handcuffs came in the 2012 set but a pack of 3x costs 0.0045 euro on bricklink, come on.
i love this set sm. i would definitely have gotten it if it weren't for the PRICE! 80$ is absurd. such a shame, the builds and figures are so good.
