    Guys, huge shout out to ‪@Metaltech4x4‬. A lot of people don’t know this (and I didn’t either until I got to speak with the owner, Mark, personally) but Metal Tech 4x4 was the company that originally converted the GX470 from air ride kid-hauler to off-road ripper. A lot of the hard work they put into the original airbag delete kits got the GX470 off-road community to where it is today. If you have any GX470 off-road needs, check out their website which i referenced in the video: metaltech4x4.com
    In this video, I go over the next stage in a modified #lexus #gx470 #offroad build

      Thanks! Yeah Tire carrier is a tough choice. I was going to make a whole video on just that subject but people seemed to like the previous 7 Mods video so I thought I’d just make a long video with everything in it.

    All of the mods you mentioned cost a lot of money. The jw tire carrier can hold jerry cans and other accessories as well. A max of 3" lift and 33" tires is the sweet spot for s setup. Less wear and tear on the drivetrain and suspension components. You don't need bigger tires and regearing if you'll just do overlanding only and not rock crawling.

      In that case, the original 7 modifications video I mentioned is what you’re looking for. This video is for future build plans which goes beyond what I recommended in That original video

    • @james_the_darklord
      @james_the_darklord 2 года назад +1

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures I only do overlanding so doing any more future mods like you mentioned here is not needed.

    You may want to do a front diff drop and if you have KDSS you may want to use spacers, one in front and two in back. KDSS will also need a pan bar replacement. KDSS bar will hit the pan bar when lifted.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 года назад +2

      Unless you go over 3” front lift, a diff drop is not necessary with the GX. The CV angles are very favorable for lifts and a diff drop reduces clearance and can mess with the pinion angle.
      Here’s a super interesting video on KDSS modification recommendations. Very cool system ruclips.net/video/Ueshf401B0k/видео.html

    What happened to the functionality of a-track if you have it locked in? Will The brakes still be applied and you will just power through it?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 года назад

      I believe A-TRAC senses slip by detecting wheel speed differential and applying that pulsating brake action to the wheel that’s spinning faster.
      If you have locked diffs, no wheel speed differential and hence no A-TRAC engagement. The system will be active but as long as the diffs are locked together, it won’t do anything. At least in theory.

    Hi, so the third option for tire carriers that you have to cut into your bumper…..do you have a link or brand so that I can research? Thanks

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 года назад +1

      This is definitely the option I’m leaning toward switching to as well. I should have listed as a disadvantage the fact that it’s a more custom job vs. being bolt-in like the other options. This one is from Restless Offroad instagram.com/restlessoffroad/?hl=en

      There are a couple different fab shops near me that provide this option. I should have listed as a disadvantage the fact that it is a more custom job than the other ones being bolt-in. The one shown is from Restless Offroad near LA instagram.com/restlessoffroad/?hl=en

      Heck no, 87 octane is fine for my 2004 non-VVT-i. Basically a tundra engine. You might see some performance benefit in a 2005+ with VVT-i but I doubt it’ll be very noticeable.

    Rust is real on the GX470! I just bought one and having have a shop cut the front suspension out! Stay FAR AWAY FROM NORTHERN CARS. My front suspension just increased by $2k. New lower control arms as camber bolts are seized. And shock mounts and literally rusted together. Yay.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 года назад

      Ahh man sorry to hear that. Same thing happened to my friends who bought out of Chicago. Hopefully the shop can get it back up and running better than before!
