☝️💯☝️ I can appreciate that there are places where rust is not a big concern, but anywhere with salt on the roads, you'll want to keep fender liners intact. 35s look great on the GX tho! 👍👍
33 are more than enough for the GX470. I also don’t like the tires as wide. I prefer what expert overlanders call the best tires as pizza cutters. Way better in snow and mud
I switched out my 33’s for 35’s 6 months ago. My mileage went from 15.8mpg to 14mpg. You will definitely want to regear it. After two months I was over it so I went with 4:56. Now I got back most of my drivability. Enjoy!
Awesome, right on. Yeah I could barely stand the gearing on 33s. Going even shorter than 4.56 because of all the weight on my rig. Stoked to get that drivability back!!
@@alonzokincaid1362 bro it is pricey, that is why most people don’t do it. I paid about $1350 for the gear setup and around$850 to install. Believe it or not that is a pretty good price seeing how labor cost are high to do this.
Also take into consideration to go with skinny tires or pizza cutters. Yeah they may not look as asthetically pleasing like wide tires but you’re gonna get way better performance off road.
I’m coming from 255/80 Falken wildpeaks. Loved my pizza cutters! I disagree, however that you’d get way better performance off road with them. More like, you’d get more fuel efficiency on road with the same performance off road as with a wider tire. You still have the same vehicle weight and rubber compound, but are concentrating it on a smaller traction patch with pizza cutters, which increases the pressure per square inch, and helps with efficiency, but it doesn’t necessarily equate to better performance overall.
nice job man! I'd highly encourage you to trim the top of the rear wheel wells before you go trailing and even the cladding on the door. when you tuck, the tire will push on the cladding and pop it off
Yes 35” does bugger up your trannys shift points and power Going from stock 28.7” to 35 is a big jump. Some 35” tires only are 34” so pick your tires! I put LT295/70R17 34X12.00R17LT Mickey Thompson BAJA LEGEND MTZ on my GX 470. Can’t believe you kept stock exhaust on it also. Get shop to copy the MagnaFlow 05-09 Toyota 4Runner V8 4.7L / 17-21 Lexus GX470 Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust.
Thanks for covering this. Been subbed for a while now. I have the exact same rig, with the same size tires. Lots of trimming. Wish I would’ve gone with a 3” min lift instead of my OME 2”. Alas. Game changers on the trail though. One question for you though: what are you doing about the washer fluid reservoir? It’s going to get damaged if we’re ever at full compression and full left turn lock, which is rare, but still.
For the washer reservoir I’ve seen some people get generic reservoirs on eBay and put it up in the engine bay. If it becomes a problem for me I’ll probably try that out. Probably looks cleaner too because that big ole thing is ugly under there haha
A 4” lift would not be advisable with a 120 chassis vehicle. With IFS, any lift you do just takes away from your down-travel in the front and also reduces your track-width, making it unstable. 3” +- is the most you want to do without compromising performance. And yes, all this cutting is necessary for 35s. I still rub in places when I’m fully articulated, stuffing the tire in the fender well and turning…
Thanks for the reply. I found a great deal on 35" wheels and tires. now to do all that work to install them! Not going to lie. You sure make it look easy. @@lexus_offroad_adventures
planning to go 35" on my 4th gen 4runner v8, currently got a 3" lift with 1.5" body lift. do u think i need to do much upper fender cutting since my body sit higher?
It’s tough to say. It depends on a whole bunch of factors like tire width, wheel offset, wheel spacers, etc. you may be able to get away with kinda bending the upper fender out of the way a bit. Those splash guard mounting tabs will probably catch the tire though. The good thing is you’ll have plenty of clearance to street drive the car and drive it up on ramps to see where it may hit
Regular Eibach 2.8” front 3.0 rear with HD springs. Haven’t decided what my long term suspension setup will be but the Eibachs are definitely working for now
Answer is: it depends. For me, I’m re-gearing to 4.88 gears (stock is 3.73) and ARB locking differentials soon. Weak points include the CV axles in the front (same with every Toyota)and the 8.0” rear end. But if you have freshly setup gears (backlash increases over time and can cause excessive load on the diff as it gets out of spec on these old 100k+ mile trucks) and use common sense, it should be good. If you don’t plan on re-gearing and just wanna run 35s as is, it’s definitely do-able as I showed in the video. This is a totally stock drivetrain right now and it’s impressive how much grip it has. But I’m pretty careful and have a lot of mechanical sympathy.
@@lexus_offroad_adventures my friend is doing a 2.5 lift and considering 35’s. I have a rubicon and was trying to give him an idea of what may be in store going from 28ish to 35’s
Nice, I’d love to see an objective comparison between the two. I didn’t have any issues with it rubbing on the first off road test as you’ll see next video. Hammering inward just seemed way easier but I thought about trying to go outward lol
Patty's FTW! If you're going to get a regear at a shop, try to film as much as they let you. I've always wondered what that process is like with Toyota rings and pinions
This confirms 33s are perfect.
Haha yep. 35s are definitely going to require a lot more supporting work/mods than 33s

Thanks for the video. Did you have to re-gear your GX470 with the 33's?
When I put on the 35s it needed a regear and I went over that in some later videos.
Dude we’re neighbors lol!! Grew up here & went to high school right across the street from there.
Haha right on! 🤙🤙
Great video. What front bumper is that ?
Thanks! Demello Off-Road Stealth bumper
I am thinking of getting 35" as well.. how much did the shop charge in fixing the space to fit 35's..
@@deepaksheoran1870 I fit them myself so I am not sure what the shop charge would be. A good body mount chop would be around 2-300
I love your content bro!!! You need to sort out the voice over editing tho lol
Thanks! See description
My bad bro, keep up the awesome work
All good! Compared to 33s it’s not too bad but I’m still definitely gonna need a regear if I wanna go wheeling with these or else I’ll break stuff
Thanks for this! Consider putting some seam sealer over those pinch welds that you cut and knocked up. nothing like a bit of extra protection (Y)
Absolutely, great idea. I painted it but I plan on cleaning this all up more moving forward. thanks for the suggestion!

Wheels are +18 with 1.25” (31.75mm) spacers so -13.75mm offset total
