The fact that mirra was so happy to see his competitor execute an impossible move in direct competition shows the character of the man. No more demons Dave, but we miss you bud.
I remember watching this live. I was sitting on the floor in my living room doing my homework on the coffee table. When he landed that No Handed 9, I freaked out. Even my dad, who knew nothing about BMX was going crazy. It still gives me goosebumps watching it.
The only time miracle boy ever lost...rip Dave. Matt...you just absolutely crushed it thank you for being a dear friend to Dave and such an amazing competitor. You guys drived the sport and made it what it is. As a kid that grew up in upstate NY I am so fucking proud to have met you both....Fly high Hoffman!!
Someone post mirras first run, I remember being there in person as a kid and his first run was absolutely off the charts. Best I’ve ever seen to this day
I was 18 years old when this went down. I watched this live. This brings back so many good memories. Amazing stuff. I still have my BMX bikes in the shed too. Makes me want to get out and ride. I have 4 kids to teach BMX to now. 👍 God bless!
Matt Hoffman's gnar went even beyond BMX. His giant motorbike assisted quarter pipe antics inspired Danny way and Bob burnquist in skateboarding, something which eventually resulted in megaramp being a staple of X games. I think that it's also possible that the whole sport of FMX might not exist without Mat. He sort of invented and created the expectation of really big air at contests. Before Mat ramps were tiny. Just look at Mats world first flair for an example. Done at a contest , the ramp was as narrow as a modern box jump. Inspiration also goes the other way round. BMX street & park over the past 8 years or so has been heavily inspired by street skateboarding.
That was the best time in BMX .. All the godfathers of BMX just firing back and forth at each other until the contest ends and they are all still the best of friends afterwards¡! I love it and always will¡!
Matt the condor Hoffman and Dave Mirra are the 2 main riders that put this sport where it is today,I grew up watching them,we would ride and try to mimic what we watched in there video's,well they were pro's and we were scrub's.thanks for the memories
In the bmx world we are competitive but we are all friends at the same time we push each other to be the best at what we do and thats what makes bmx a excellent sport to get into

I remember watching this as a youth I had these dudes posters all over my bedroom walls , me and my best mate both had Hoffman’s wen we were at school some of the best times of my life was bmx-ing!
Watching kevin robinson hug matt and help with the bike was rough man dave and kevin rest in peace. I skateboard but back then you just had a genuine love for xtreme sports we really watched and respected it all. Much love guy's
Estaba viendo la repeticion de bmx vert xgames 2018.....la verdad el nivel de espectacularidad de estos años nunca sera superada por los chicos de hoy en dia
Man crazy to think it was these guys that got me on bmx later switched to mtb but this is where it all started need to get myself a bmx not riden one for years
if your old enough to remember,Hoffman was untouchable forever, the first 900 in waterloo. BMX wasn't as popular as it is now so everything was a lot more grassroots Hoffman kept this sport alive, but your %100 right Bestwick is a serious contender for the greatest of all time, honestly there's a handful of guys that are just unbelievable and the tricks are insane Byron, coco,Tabron mirra Wilkerson, mcoy Miron just to name a few all incredible riders but for me HOFFMAN will always be king of vert, and I'm just glad that there's still VERT comps so thanks XGAMES.
OUTLAW712 im still a bit young at 25yrs but theres no doubt Hoffman and mirra are practically bmx godfathers / inventors. What blows me away is bestwicks consistency and his age. Its freaking inspirational
Hace poco vi un video en Facebook de Hoffman haciendo ese mismo truco en el 89 y la rompió toda, pensé que desde aquí lo había hecho pero salió más impresionante hacer éste truco en el 89, bastante adelantado a la época
matt hoffman hella makes it look soo damn fun. so epic how his bars bent forward landing the nine, and those bars were on really tight you can tell. that ACL surgery he got wit the blackmarket doctor really did wonders, btw no anesthetics, check out what he says about it it on the tube, dave mirra (looks up) cheers (chugs beer) we miss you.
These runs back in Mirra, Hoffman and also Beswick coming to the fore were so much better to my mind than what you see today. This video not prime example but when they had a run that was dialled it was sick smooth, your mind could enjoy the tricks fluid just nicer to watch. Vert comps now so many spins, it gets muddled and really looks like a spasmodic cocker spaniel with fleas. I am all for innovation but old school runs for me at least remain the best.
what a sad remember kevin and dave are out of this world, real dreamers, real BMX SPIRIT , real BMX INSPIRATION, this guys move and inspire all new entire generation over the world doing the best they can do !!! being themselves as the badases they were !! NEVER FORGET I personally think we are lucky to still have the CONDOR walking this world !!! this is the legendary bmx roots !!!
Incredible to see this stuff and amazing even now. Hoffman and Mirra then were what Fiola and Dominquez were in vert when I was in my teens. Vert is not the same apart from Jamie B who goes big and huge respect for that old crusader. Spin tricks are for flat land I like see air.
Now a days ryan williams is the most amazing BMX rider specially in BIG Air competiton..he throw hes bike in the air flpping alone 2 times like super man no hander in 2019..imagine that its really insane

Mat Hoffman is BMX! Unbelievable what the sports means to him. GOAT
I love the mutual respect these magnificent athletes have for each other, unlike many other sports. RIP Dave Mirra.
Every x-games top athletes are nice to each other. Except that jerk tas pappas (rip)
Ozamataz Buckshank He’s still alive

There is something special about early 2000s X games
That 900 no hander is still amazing in 2019
Not to mention pro bmx bikes weighed over 40 lbs (18 kilos) back then. These guys were athletes!!

Matt Hoffman will always be the GODFATHER of bmx vert & Dave Mirra will always be the enforcer of the bmx sport .

RIP Dave and K-Rob. A beautiful moment in BMX history, I miss when the commentators went apeshit and made it that much more awesome.
Right. They expect too much now and lack excitement.
Bc we were witnessing legends be born.
That was the best time in BMX
.. All the godfathers of BMX just firing back and forth at each other until the contest ends and they are all still the best of friends afterwards¡! I love it and always will¡!

I need a new bike been so many years.
By far one of the greatest moments in BMX/Xgames history.
