One of the GodFathers of Freestyle. Awesome Eddie. All of us in our late 40s and early 50s. We thank you for the great times as a kid growing up in the 80's.
The tricks might not have been the most cutting edge at the time, but its the way he does them that makes them special. Total showman. Smooth, total style, and the ultimate showman. I dont think he was competing to win, but rather have fun and entertain at that time. Best all around rider ever.
MR. Entertainment! That´s something that I miss in todays competition. Eddie always knew how to rock the crowd! And his fast style was so hot and smooth. Thanx Eddie, for so many great years of your riding.
The Moon walk was just epic considering the backing track. BMX evolved way past this level but classics are so good to see even in 2020. I never had internet when I was the local BMX star in my own mind hahahaha. BMX action pix captures from Fiola, Mike Miranda on a beauty PK Ripper was what I had in UK to try emulate.......I miss those days.
The flair and showmanship really set him apart. Little flourishes, barspins, pedal spins, tipping his visor to the crowd. Just superb. Finally got to meet him last week almost 40 years after first seeing him airing Pipeline in a magazine. Such an awesome person!
Eddie Fiola was "The Man" that made BMX what it is today, There is something that these great riders of today cannot learn, and that is "Style" most of Today's Tricks are so complex they go over the head, so I think respect is needed here, we are talking about the Video/Eddie Fiola....why does it go into a direction where we start dissing?? anyway I could watch Video's like this all day.
This is a cool post thanks!! lots of memories !! Eddie & Martin was the great's but the first time I seen Dave Mirra was awesome Rip to Dave Mirra & his family !! Much respect to all the great's 💯👏👏🔥🙆♂️
seeing any of these maneuvers is real cool, I have not met the man in person but I hear he is a real nice person and a pleasure to be around. also you have to think this was 21 yrs ago pretty impressive still, and absolutely rad bitd. I will thank him, Thank you eddie for all you have done, and continue to do. This vid was great to watch :D
It's cool seeing how the power and strength of ramp/skatepark riding benefited flatland... when Eddie does a simple 360 bunnyhop he can make the bike look almost weightless
Wichita Kansas..Wonder if BTK was in the audience?? LOl Fiola and Aparijo rule even to this day. I watch them constantly and have yet to seen someone be as smooth and crisp as them. Even when their foot hit the ground I would still give them a 10 because they are classy too. Role models for kids. Sucks to get old. But I still see Eddie and Martin on RUclips doing their thing. You'r never too old to ride a bike.
Awesome! I am still looking for parts of my face after he blew them off with this performance. I heard he will be in Calgary for the RAD event in late August. Can't Wait! - and thanks for posting bro.
Flatland freestyle was fun to watch but it seemed very limited in the amount of tricks they could perform and it just never caught on in a big way. Similar to rodney mullens bag of tricks ,even tho he is an amazing skater. When it comes to riding BMX in the pools and half pipes, etc ...eddie was king. I remember being 11 and lusting after the bicycles all those guys were riding. I made some pretty decent bikes but nothing like these guys had. Standing on top of an 8 foot drop in is pretty intimidating to say the least. Thank you for uploading these gems
Anyone know what bike he was on in this vid? For some reason my brain is telling me he left GT and was on Ozone for a year or so b4 kinda fading out.. this bike isnt a GT as GT didnt have head tube gussets on its freestyle Performer series.. and the small top tube platform.. Maybe CW ?
Yeah the video is hard to tell, I thought a chrome GT Performer at first original model but that gusset from down tube to head stem is a REDLINE feature then. I am unsure on this one and maybe some custom manufacturer like you suggest.
Most the modern tricks you can link back to Eddie, RL Osbourne, and hoffman, and the sport had to finally move even further forward. You can't diss Eddie because he's like the "Godfather" of the flat ground and ramp king, but people have a competitive spirit and will always raise the bar on sports to make them more exciting. Alot of the new tricks are extensions, or newer versions of the old ones anyway. If Eddie just happened to be born in 1990, he would still be the best around here, HEHE...
Actually, I was taking the piss out of you mate. "how about doing some real tricks", who the hell are you to say that about Eddie Fiola? The guys of that era Pioneered the sport. Riders today are drawing on decades of knowledge. Back then there was no-one to show you tricks, you had to make them up. Instead of being sarcastic, just say thank you and be on your way !!
You see the difference between Eddie and Dennis. Dennis's run was more aggressive and bold whereas Eddie's was real smooth and professional (not to many touches). Dennis represented the future while Eddie(as a pioneer ) represented the past at that point.
Let's put this Columbus AFA comp into perspective for those that are unaware.....us kids from the Midwest absolutely destroyed the pros from California at this event. In fact, it marks the beginning of the end for that era.....our rolling tricks set the standard that are still mostly used today. Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania kids redefined BMX freestyle.....just watch Billy Neuman's ride on here from that same day.
so if you live on i -40 between Georgia and California just go to his Facebook page and ask him to stop. he will my friend got his Gt performer signed last month
Eddys Style Real and cool oldschool bmx .......no caboose and the other roll on tricks😊......in newschool the bmx bike have One tire😉and than Spinning Spinning Spinning.😉
Eddie did show tricks in his run, tricks with little risk of losing your balance. Dennis had a good run, Kevin Jones' run had difficulty and didn't touch.
Back in 1988 that was considered a novice run. He didn't do any of the newer tricks. He was a pioneer when the sport first began but never was considered one of the best riders once it started to take off in the mid 80s.

Definately🤘🤘

HE IS A LEGEND!!! I looked up to him as a kid growing up watching RAD with my friends. The beginning of the movie was what got me hooked on bikes.👌🏽
That Moonwalk was classic fly!
1988 was a good year!
I'm 46 and Eddie was a huge influence on me riding then and now. Met him a year ago. Super nice guy. This run was so dialed!
If we had intranet back in 1988 = I woulda broke my neck trying this stuff, so glad I was limited to mimicking a few snapshots from magazines lol
Exactly how it was😂
He rides just like Cru Jones! Thanks for posting this!

Eddie is still the king of the Skate parks...He invented pretty much everything.
Scorcher2112 Mat Hoffman is responsible for modern day big air vert riding
An old school bike, an old school song and an old school rider. This is awesome.
The flair and showmanship really set him apart. Little flourishes, barspins, pedal spins, tipping his visor to the crowd. Just superb. Finally got to meet him last week almost 40 years after first seeing him airing Pipeline in a magazine. Such an awesome person!
Right on!
This man is a real Showman !!
Awesome Video

Had me at the moon walk haha pretty slick..I mean RAD :)
My youth. This stuff molded my lifestyle 🚲👍
Can't like this enough. SO damn stylish.

I will thank him,
Thank you eddie for all you have done,

This vid was great to watch :D
And he's still just as good today!!
Eddie Fiola will always be the King!
Even though he was a vert rider, Fiola had more style on the ground than any of todays pro flatlanders!!
It's cool seeing how the power and strength of ramp/skatepark riding benefited flatland... when Eddie does a simple 360 bunnyhop he can make the bike look almost weightless
Ikr
I've seen a lot of freestyling in my day, but most of these trick I haven't seen before. Original and awesome!
The best flatland routine I've ever seen.
Thanks for that post
Needed something awesome to watch during this time
Saw him in Coventry England in about 1985? Pure class!
he had a so smooth style ! ramp and flat !
Eddie was one of my favorite riders
Very smooth and fluid run. Cool!
so skillful! I can remember him in the 80s!!
Love this vid,true freestyle origens.
I had forgotten about the pegs at the top of the forks, and yes that moonwalk at 2:55 was very cool!
Wow,best flatland ive ever seen Eddie do!
Wichita Kansas..Wonder if BTK was in the audience?? LOl Fiola and Aparijo rule even to this day. I watch them constantly and have yet to seen someone be as smooth and crisp as them. bmx has always been about show and style- Eddie had it all-....still has in fact.
Love it so smooth 😮
Art on two wheels.
He's traveling back through my
town in 2 weeks, and I want him to autograph my 85 GT performer
Raymond Boone did he sign your bike??
Did he sign it????
That was awsome Eddie
Awesome! I am still looking for parts of my face after he blew them off with this performance. I heard he will be in Calgary for the RAD event in late August. Can't Wait! - and thanks for posting bro.
Smooth run Eddie was on fire
Flatland freestyle was fun to watch but it seemed very limited in the amount of tricks they could perform and it just never caught on in a big way.

Just quality!
Man eddie is just plane sick with it, im barley learing flat land and these guyz make it look so dam easy
I used to rent RAD as a kid.. Every weekend. That was in '86 ;)
GOD🫶🏼 amazing 🤙🏼

I think the sliding rock walks are pretty slick too :-)
the best ever .....
ALL HAIL THE KING!
Agreed🤘🤘🤘
it sould be like this today.
Miss the Miami hopper and cherry pickers. Good times as a 12 year old in 86 eddie and Martin were my idols
Eddie was a Smooth Criminal
The 'quick spin' at 2:20 was awesome!
KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The moonwalk was a showstopper. God I miss the 80's.
THAT was bad ass! One sweet trick after another. Anyone that says Eddie wasn't bad ass is just being a dick. 5 stars for sure!
That monwalk was cool
trully skilled!
Man , back in the 80’s I could do most this stuff. If I had internet I could have done it all. I had a bike and nothing but time on my hand
Bad ass keep in it real
Whole 'nother level.
great vid thanks
This is all Eddie learned since Rad?
To this day I still have no idea how he did that moonwalk with the bike XD
Eddie rode for GT if I'm correct
GT, and then later, Dyno
You gotta love the high speed sliding rock walk trick. Also the fake surfer crash. Awesome.

ya, but no one was doing them BEFORE. if there was a beaging, it was EDDIE
Its not what you do..its the way you do it!
Super Nice show
true showmanship! eddie rules!! what bike was he on, a revcore?
Junior Polanco gt pro freestyle team model 1988
pretty impressive; I didn't know eddie did much flatland; I guess ha had just enuf tricks to do a few routines
what was the trick at 2:20?
You see the difference between Eddie and Dennis. Dennis's run was more aggressive and bold whereas Eddie's was real smooth and professional (not to many touches). Dennis represented the future while Eddie(as a pioneer ) represented the past at that point.
No one in my neighborhood could even do these Tricks today
he could've taken the win, if he had done an extra hundred or so barspins.
Super tricks and rad bike. Anyone know what it is?
Used to ride gt for years tho he maybe was riding for dyno at this time...legend all the same👍
Super😊
Eddy du bist der coolste😉

Eddys Style Real and cool oldschool bmx .......no caboose and the other roll on tricks😊......in newschool the bmx bike have One tire😉and than Spinning Spinning Spinning.😉
What was that BMX in the video? Is it a 20" or 24"?
Eddie did show tricks in his run, tricks with little risk of losing your balance. Dennis had a good run, Kevin Jones' run had difficulty and didn't touch.
Look at those barspins
what kind of bike is that?
It was no secret Fiola was a vert specialist, not so much a flatlander. :)
Back in 1988 that was considered a novice run. He didn't do any of the newer tricks. He was a pioneer when the sport first began but never was considered one of the best riders once it started to take off in the mid 80s.
would like to see u pull off what eddie did back in the day.not saying he is the best but is more then likely way better then u
