born in 86 but my brother was 81. I would beg my mom to make my brother let me watch it in his room with his friends and it was like I was in the VIP lounge with the coolest dudes in town, watching the coolest movie of all time. Nobody will understand the impact of this movie unless you were a part of it. Absolutely groundbreaking.
This movie was a staple of my childhood. I even rode BMX well into my 20's. I wore out the VHS tape watching this movie. It was more impactful than star wars for me. I LOVED it and still do.

This movie HAS to be one of the most rented VHS tapes in the 80s. I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid. For me it was BMX, Skateboarding and Ninjas growing up. A good weekend was renting American ninja, Thrashin and RAD.
This movie is unwatchable only thing was the stunts a girl in my art class in the 2nd grade had brought this movie In on vhs in 1992 I was 8 the whole class hated it I borrowed the vhs tape from the girl in my class and watched it 3 times to figure out the plot🇺🇸
This movie was such a huge part of my childhood. It was because of this movie that I got a ‘91 GT Performer; neon yellow with black mags. I sucked lol but man, when I was on it, I felt like I just won Helltrack! And the songs…oh man…Thunder In Your Heart and Break The Ice…dude I’m 40 now and I still jam out to those tunes today. Criminally underrated classic!! 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
At the 25th anniversary in Calgary, Hal was asked what is his favorite movie he's made. To paraphrase his answer "I know what movie you want me to say, but my favorite is Hooper, its a movie about the Hollywood stunt world, basically a movie about my life. I also love Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run because of how successful they were. BUT non of those movies ever had any type of reunion, and here we are in Calgary with hundreds of fans"
Super crazy he talks about the number 33 right off the bat!! I saw that in the movie and knew exactly what it was all about. It shows the world who truly is in control. As a kid I never noticed, but now I notice it in absolutely EVERYTHING. Cool to have a Texas connection with you guys.
I BMXed for nearly 3 years in the 80s because of this, and we were the founders of the movement in my hometown. We had nothing, no rotors, no chromoly frames. But we still rocked. Nice times! Greetings from Messi`s town in Argentina :-)
I would love to ask Bill if he knows where those "rhinestone parachute pants" are during the bike dance "Bicycle boogie" scene in Rad (is that Rodney Bingenheimer doing the announcing in that scene?)I never noticed him as a 14 year old, watching this movie and only noticed it just few months ago at 51. Those are most unique and I actually think they're pretty cool& vintage.
Such nostalgia. I've owned this gem 💎 of a flick for eeons. Just pulled it out yesterday for my 5 yr old loves jamming to thunder in your ❤ cuz I have tunes in my vehicle for yrs now.
Send me an Angel...fn hilarious and classic, I just love it. This and Gleaming the Cube...we were all about it, outside skating and riding...what a great childhood we had!!!
He’s absolutely right about RAD having such a tremendous impact on BMX the movie included elements of Flatland, Vert/Park, Street, Dirt Jumping & Racing which are the primary competitive areas of BMX & it had the biggest impact on BMX until ESPN’s X-Games (which began nine years later, during the summer of 1995 in Providence & Newport, Rhode Island). This movie blurred the line between Freestyle BMX (Flatland, Vert, Park & Street) & BMX Racing.
I love dBMX as a kid and it was a huge part of my life as a kid in no small part to this movie. Today I ride gravel, which is actually much more like the qualifying races in Rad than any riding I did as a kid. Point is, I'm almost 40 and I can easily say that this movie is a huge reason I've loved cycling since as far back as I can remember.
I just happened upon the movie at a video rental store way back in 1988 and I had my dad get it. It became a major staple of my childhood. I had a BMX bike at the time and try as I might I was in my dad's driveway trying stunts which lead to many scrapes, scratches and bruises.
My sister's boyfriend was cast in the extras as one of the racers for this film. I'm not sure if he ended up in the final cut or not, but he ended up racing for team Patterson. And he finally selling me his Patterson for cheap. That bike was awesome!
I had a BMX bike but I kept bugging my dad to take me to see RAD at the movies and he did and that made me want to ride it more, and I did... Mike Miranda was my Idol
In the '80s, while my peers were playing with GI Joe figures and playsets, I spent many afternoons riding and doing tricks on my Diamond Back BMX bike with mag wheels. I have the scars on my knees and elbows to prove the amount of nasty spills I took trying to emulate Cru Jones. I could never do all the tricks in RAD but I could do a couple and it felt incredible when you can pop a wheelie and spin the handle bar several times. This movie is a reminder of how times were better in the '80s and believe it or not, Lori Loughlin from 1986 was a complete smokeshow.
I would love to ask Bill if he knows where those "rhinestone parachute pants" are during the bike dance scene in Rad. I never noticed him as a 14 year old, watching this movie and only noticed it just few months ago at 51. Those are most unique and I actually think they're pretty cool& vintage.
Man, back in '88, I watched this VHS every day. I was 9-10 years old and tried my hardest to do the tricks I saw on screen. I could only manage bunny hops, endos and wheelies.
I'd go rent Rad as a kid start watching it then in the middle of it quit watching it and go get on my bike and hit some jumps my dad let me build with the loader. Even in the freezing cold I'd do that lol . Eventually got to race for a few years then got to high school and it faded out till just recently picked up a 91 Dyno and a 90 performer..lol still living the dream
MAGIC, there was magic with no internet or cellphone's, just having fun with BMX´s or skateboarding, getting home always sweaty at sunset with your mom mad at you lol yes those were the days
I named my Son after this movie I want to say is a Top5 movie my son's name is Kruden Kru after Cru & den is named after Ken Shamrock fighting out of the Lions Den.The 1'st time I saw Rad was on Betta video tape
I was 18 when this movie was released in theaters. I remember my friends and I didn't have a party to go to that night so we ended up in Hollywood and one of my friends wanted to watch the movie. I used to ride BMX in the late 1970s so I agreed. I thought the movie was cheesy but also enjoyable. I developed a crush on Aunt Becky.

The greatest films about cycling of the 80s. It will always be incredible for years to come.

I watched the opening. It was a horrible opening. Getting picked up by a garbage truck?

R.A.D. has always been my favorite as an 80's kid, even the soundtrack always gets you pumped up and pedal faster...
Went tonight. Sat in the theater giddy and feeling like I was 8 years old all over again!

At first, I thought it was shot in the US. Then, I heard it was shot in Canada.
Rocky movie with a bike (even had Talia Shire)

Rad thrashing gleaming a cube airborne North Shore. All those great movies from the eighties
Adrian was his mom, Adrian was mad that he skipped his SATs, to do the bicycle race.
Exelent bmx Rad#1💪
Who else watched the intro/entro and ran outside and tried to do all the tricks? I could never do the cherry picker.
CRU FOREVER 👍 💪
I quit motocross to ride bikes after this movie.
Aunt Becky was his girlfriend in the film rad.
I miss my powder blue Mongoose
jezzz this guy looks the same, obviously older but the same young guy that was my hero, besides Jesus
i love rad...my father wrote
Eddie fiola should have been the real actor and star. No offense to Bill though. A real rider would have made the character more believable.
Bill hasnt changed since Reagan left office.
Unwatchable movie 🤣
He can barely ride a bicycle in real life and is a horrible actor...LOL

If you don’t love RAD….I can’t help you.
