Love this game. Very pleasant surprise. I bought it because I thought it would be fun to play with my daughter, which it is, but I have found it to be much deeper than a typical arcade racer.
This looks pretty fun and I will eventually pick it up. It does feel like a missed opportunity with some of the things they could have added like obstacles to the courses and more differences with the vehicles
This is probably the closest we are gonna get to the awesome racing in the Speed Racer 2008 live action movie. I loved that movie and it's racing so much.
y that's a great game, all those games of my childhood take special place in my heart, they were honest, not like modern games where every game trying to sell u lootboxes and other garbage
This game needs some Split Second style mayhem. Kinda like he said in the video. A kids baseball bat falling onto the track. A skateboard crashing through the side of the map. A parent opening the door and shifting the track because they bumped it.
i'm not usually a fan of racing games, but i have some very fond memories of hot wheels: stunt track challenge. If they go in that direction with future seasons, i'm definitely getting this
Gold being purchasable with real money or not, it still preys on FOMO and expects grinding trying to hold players with these aspects rather than rely on how good the game is.

Oof. Was ready to plop down my credit card for this game until I heard the word "loot box." No doubt in my mind they're gonna turn on the microtransactions and lean into it heavily after the reviews are done. Thanks for the video!
Someone said that the developers said they wouldn't put it in, but I can't find a source of it and I'll believe it when it's still free of real-money transactions in a few months from now. - Even if it remains free, it looks like conditioning of the mind with the way it looks like mobile game lootboxes. - Why put that shit in? It has nothing to do with anything in this game.
Thank you for this review Skill Up. I pre-ordered this and felt some buyers remorse afterwards worrying about whether the price point would be worth it. I'm now definitely looking forward to jumping in when it unlocks tomorrow.
Glad you liked it, I played it 5 hours at launch and don't see myself returning to it. The AI cheats to offer difficulty (rubberbanding, saw one spawn in at a better position, getting excessive speed boosts). A large number of tracks use cheap tactics to "challenge" by having corner you can fly out of with no way to recover except respawning (Trackmania used to do this better). There is no reverse, so respawn when something happens. Boosting can nullify hitting the wall in corners. The oversteer of drifting causes me hit boost to exit is, because it simply works better on average than steering correctly. I found a lot of rubbish online, because it seems like all creations are automatically uploaded. I am impressed by the capabilities of the track editor and cars, but that's it. The editor itself is horrible to navigate, I would have preferred something like Trackmania's general overview. In my opinion: Wait until the game is actually done and then buy it, because it is currently overpriced and with more content coming there is no point in putting down money now with the frequency of sales, GOTY's, etc.
You sold me at track creation. Sounds like they focused on the basics, get the aesthetic, speed and driving down, make a fun game first and explore different options in a sequel or even DLC
As far as I know, it is possible to play on custom tracks made by players online, and you can also use the assets to make the tracks crazy! I watched a streamer playing on a few, and some of them were CRAZY.
For the first half of this video I was thinking "Yeah that sounds fun" but as soon as you mentioned building your own tracks and the amount of customization it grabbed. This looks like the next TrackMania and I can't wait! Thanks Ralph!
Just a heads up, you can sell cars for 300+ coins (based on rarity) using LT. But there are a couple cars that can't be sold (mainly your starter cars)
I was surprised with how good this game and the track builder is! I'm playing on the Series X and I haven't had any performance issues or crashes in about the 10 hours I've played so far :) Fantastic review!
It’s sad that you almost expected crashes or performance issues to happen, if you are playing on a home console. If you are playing on a PC, well, that would be kind of expected, since the variables for different PC’s and graphic chips are to varied to fully account for during Quality Assurance.
You intro reminded me of when my daughter played Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed. She gave the controller to me to help her during the flying sections of a certain map. After that, I found myself playing the game for hours.
Something to note, the economy seems to be vastly improved since launch. All cars, save for the ones gifted to you on bootup, can sell for 300 gold. 500 gold if they're rare, and 1000 gold if they're legendary.
I still have my old hotwheel collection so this game was a no brainer for me. It flew under my radar til I saw a review on it and fell in love. I'm playing on PS5 and having a blast.

The part where you spoke about race track events or 'hazards' wants me to remind people of Motorstorm Apocalypse, with its midrace apocalypse hazards.
Was just in the shower with a cold beer listening to a Hot Wheels game review. This is peak adulthood.
Yeah, I remember when I had my first beer.
@@AudioPhile got em
@@jake53105 haha I just love that movie so much I use that joke anywhere I can, even if it barely fits.
7:40 "There might be an angle that I'm missing here" as you pass a shortcut on your right :P
Was that edit intentional?
Excellent review, as always
“Environment interaction” reminds me we need another Split Second!
that game was amazing
Never gonna happen tho 😔
Love this game. Very pleasant surprise. I bought it because I thought it would be fun to play with my daughter, which it is, but I have found it to be much deeper than a typical arcade racer.
This looks pretty fun and I will eventually pick it up. It does feel like a missed opportunity with some of the things they could have added like obstacles to the courses and more differences with the vehicles
DUDE. YOU NEVER GET TOO OLD FOR HOTWHEELS
I M 28 and still like hotwheels
This is probably the closest we are gonna get to the awesome racing in the Speed Racer 2008 live action movie. I loved that movie and it's racing so much.
Sounds familiar. I think I own the Nintendo DS version.
This look really fun, I'll pick it up if its ever on sale. Also RIP that car on the left at 8:00
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
For every Warzone being installed on your hard drive, there is one Hunt Showdown sobbing in the corner, Ralph
This game brings back memories of playing Re-Volt. We need a new one of those.
y that's a great game, all those games of my childhood take special place in my heart, they were honest, not like modern games where every game trying to sell u lootboxes and other garbage
I lovedddddddd Re-Volt
Have me the same thoughts, Re-Volt was something that just worked so well. Simple honest gaming
This game needs some Split Second style mayhem. Kinda like he said in the video. A kids baseball bat falling onto the track. A skateboard crashing through the side of the map. A parent opening the door and shifting the track because they bumped it.
I'm convinced at this point that Skill Up will never review Deathloop.
Same with trials of Midgard lol oh well
Deathloop is amazing 9/10, there is your review now go buy it🖒
@@LordofRacoons no it's not... Don't spread disinformation... It has a lot of problems... More like 6.5/10
i'm not usually a fan of racing games, but i have some very fond memories of hot wheels: stunt track challenge. If they go in that direction with future seasons, i'm definitely getting this
Gold being purchasable with real money or not, it still preys on FOMO and expects grinding trying to hold players with these aspects rather than rely on how good the game is.
True. There is a way to just straight out buy cars though.
@@Tank_Facts yeah but it's only 5 cars at a time, and it changes after every 4 hours of gameplay.
Does anyone else just have a bunch of Hot wheels and snap-on tracks just in a box and just look at it and go
*“Man those were the days”*
Sucks to see a good game tainted by these predatory lootbox mechanics especially when the game is also aimed at children
Skill Up: Says the bus isn't good.
Also Skill Up: Is behind the bus in the very next section.
This makes me want a new F-Zero even more!
Redout.
@@Wylie288 Played it, it's nowhere near as good as F-Zero X/GX. Redout is decent, but but it just handles completely differently.
@@DenGuleBalje I feel you man. Redout does not replicate the carnage of 24 machines on circuits with no intention of safety lol. Formula 1 on steroids.
I remember a long time ago I played one of these games on Windows 98. Stunt Track Driver was the name. Actually a really fun game. I might have to try out another one.
Oof. Was ready to plop down my credit card for this game until I heard the word "loot box." No doubt in my mind they're gonna turn on the microtransactions and lean into it heavily after the reviews are done. Thanks for the video!
You don't have to buy them even if they do it
Someone said that the developers said they wouldn't put it in, but I can't find a source of it and I'll believe it when it's still free of real-money transactions in a few months from now. - Even if it remains free, it looks like conditioning of the mind with the way it looks like mobile game lootboxes. - Why put that shit in? It has nothing to do with anything in this game.
Been playing this game since Monday and I'm loving this game
Damnit, I was onboard until he mentioned the economy and that sucked all the excitement out of it for me…
Yup. Not only that, it also looks disgustingly like lootbox-conditioning.
Forza Horizon 3 had a pretty good Hot Wheels expansion. No build-your-own mode, but otherwise lots of fun.
Man hot wheels is paying these guys insane amounts to write good reviews.
…
You sold me at track creation.
Sounds like they focused on the basics, get the aesthetic, speed and driving down, make a fun game first and explore different options in a sequel or even DLC
That moment when you think a game looks about $15 cool... and it costs WAAAAYYY more so you're out.
15 dollar games aint a thing lol
Just from the Title: You recommended THIS?! AND NOT LOST JUDGEMENT?!?!?!?!
0:37 Your hand on a what?
this is giving me serious Hotwheels Stunt Track Driver vibes, and that nostalgia hits good.
8:00 R.I.P. Little Red Car, you're gonna be falling quite a while...
I never really cared about racing games not named WipEout, but... this certainly looks _neat._
Thank you for reviewing this! It's a bit outside your typical genre so it's cool to see!
Just a heads up, you can sell cars for 300+ coins (based on rarity) using LT. But there are a couple cars that can't be sold (mainly your starter cars)
You know 2021 has been a slow year for games when this pops in your sub box
Nice to see you rocking that 4K/60 resolution and awesome review!
I was surprised with how good this game and the track builder is! I'm playing on the Series X and I haven't had any performance issues or crashes in about the 10 hours I've played so far :)
Fantastic review!
500 gold if they're rare, and 1000 gold if they're legendary.
you have no idea how ecstatic the Acceleracers community has been since this game came out
The second you say it's a racing game with split screen racing, I'm all in.
This year is starting totally a win for under the radar games with decent surprise releases. First Kena and now to an extent, this.
I still have my old hotwheel collection so this game was a no brainer for me. It flew under my radar til I saw a review on it and fell in love. I'm playing on PS5 and having a blast.
Reminds me of that cool cartoony multiplayer racing game on the Dreamcast.
I'd love to see this game with tracks from the Hotwheels Highway 35 series.
Only skill up reviews can make me actually interested in a hot wheels game
So much Forza Horizon 3 Hot Wheels Expansion vibes. I love that they made a standalone Hot Wheels game that really brings back the old style of arcade racing.
“Wow! This is essentially 10 year old me’s dream game! I’ll pick it up for the nostalgia alone”
>cars are unlocked in lootboxes
“Never mind”
I’m so glad you decided to review this. Hot Wheels was one of the titles I saw earlier that I was hoping wouldn’t suck… and your opinion is about the only one I would trust when deciding whether or not to spring for this one. Thanks for spending the time to play it and provide such a thorough review.
Duuuude you killed me with that Micro Machines mention. I forgot about that and now I feel old. Also this is great to hear bc I was looking forward to this game but I wasn't sure if it was going to be done well or not, but it seems I should get it.
You just brought back memories I forgot about when you mentioned micro machines
A racing game with loopty loops is always a 10/10 for me
Seeing a racing drone is an instant buy
The very first game I ever had on DC was a hot wheel game back in the mid 90s , I played the hell out of that game. And it did have a basement level where you were racing across the top of a pool table dodging balls lol
As far as I know “modnation” on the ps3 had the best custom car setup… I loved that game for that.
Getting a Blur feeling from what I've seen. One of my favorite games.
