The Jean "Moebius" Giraud inspired art direction got me interested way back when it was first teased, but that demo from last year turned me off a bit but I'll still pick it up just to see how it landed on the finished product. It's a cool concept and beautifully executed.
Same here on the Moebius style (I love his art, and Eurocomics in general) but I did enjoy the demo. I thought it had a lot of promise. I'm really looking forward to playing it later.
This feels like a classic Skill Up review... the musical cues, the long pauses for quiet time, his focused, highly descriptive tone. While I love the more humorous and upbeat feel of his new reviews, and their shorter lengths do a better job of actually serving as consumer-friendly reviews... I like this too
I absolutely agree. I still remember how amazing it was the first time I watched his NieR Automata review and all the care it must have gone through to make it possible, or how excited I was with the Monster Hunter World review. And although I don't dislike the more recent reviews, I really wish the style of reviews from the past were more frequent. Still, it's good to know that at least, every now and then, it's possible to see them come back, even if only for a brief moment.

Wow, it's such a visually beautiful game. I was a little on the fence whether I would be into this game or not, but I'm definitely going to check it out now (especially since it's on Game Pass). Thanks for the review, Ralph!
As a bit twitch viewer. It's always so frustrating watching games like this come on screen during showcases or whatnot, and be automatically met with "yikes" or laughs. So happy this turned out amazing
@@himmelektronik Yeah. Based on personal experience, there are like 3 archetypes of Twitch chat community 1. The "unmoderated free-for-all" - This is what you usually see at these showcases. Thriving, but uncontrollable, and inevitably filled with edgelords desperately trying to stand out from the huge crowd by being as venomous and contrarian as possible. You have no limits, but there's a less than 1% chance that anything you post will ever be read by anyone. 2. The "possibly-ok police state" - Reasonably sized group where productive discussion and interaction can happen. Only made possible by extremely trigger happy moderators who are prone to power-trip from time-to-time. Workable, but you'd better learn the social hierarchy before you post. 3. "Dead" - Can't have people problems in the chat if there are no people in the chat.
Feeling relieved right now that both Kena and Sable turned out great. 😌 I was excited for both of them ever since I first saw them. Can't wait to play them now. 👍
If we've learned anything about the Video Game Industry within the last two years, it's that during a time where corporate greed, corporate misconduct and monetization schemes dominate gaming headlines there are still so many talented people, and teams pushing gaming as a medium forward and delivering thought provoking and engaging world's, with stories, and experiences that help us redefine what art is.
@@alpsalish What are you talking about? It's one thing for a small team to make a story and a world that challenges the way we think about something, and it's another to have bugs in an indie game made by two people.
@@KingSulley It is unreviewable by some and it has been buggy since the demo. Let us ignore everything. I am excited to play it and it looks gorgeous, but I'm not blind. The current state of gaming allows this to be the norm.
@@alpsalish the current state of gaming also includes publishers who enforce strict deadlines, once you consider that for this game Microsoft is involved through a gamepass release, it makes sense. Doesn't excuse it, it's been an issue since Steam Greenlight was created. But it's something that publishers and studios alike exploit just because they can. I can't really hate the developers for it though. It's the same thing with madden. I can't hate the workers who have to feed themselves, but I can hate the management, directors, VPs and board members that push a terrible shell of a game year after year.
This game has horrible reviews on Xbox the framerate is so bad you'll get sick during the tutorial.. Sure game looks fun but they loose point for releasing in unplayable state.
This review was absolutely stunning in its presentation. The editing, the soundtracking, and the scripting was all so strongly representative of the tone of the game you were talking about. Fantastic work my man!
Of course you recommend it! Just look at it! It’s pure beauty. Been waiting 3 years for this one ever since I saw the dev putting out updates on twitter. It’s been like my own little hype train all this time. Can’t fucking wait.
I'm so glad this wasn't a game trapped on Twitter. Like A Short Hike, it's so cool to see the initial post, get hyped and watch the dev work their ass off to deliver a fantastic experience for players.
Warning: Severe technical issues Thankfully it was free on GamePass. Concept and art direction are nice but there are gameplay issues. 1. Many times the bike will not recall to your location. I had to stop playing entirely because not only would it not return but it could not be located using compass and map. It constantly moved and flipped sides on the compass but it was not there. Exiting and re-entering the game didn’t resolve it. Basically left me stranded in the desert with no ride. Unable to play further. 2. For a low res game it has a very jerky jerky animation. It’s livable but unexplainable. 3. The camera is atrocious. This game is up my alley and I was enjoying it in spite of the issues until it stranded me without a bike and no recourse. It’s unfinished or poorly tested.
you can just fast travel to any point in the map and it'll give you your bike back, the animation is like that because they wanted it like that, it is a design choice made by the devs
For those wondering, the art style and designs are heavily inspired by the works of Jean Giraud aka Moebius, particularly his anthology comic Arzach. Also for the anime fans out there you might consider checking out a one-off OVA called Dragon's Heaven that also borrows many aesthetics from Moebius.
This is one of the best review I saw in a looong time, I was interested in this game a bit but after heard your review I'm hype and can't wait to play it during the weekend, well done sir. In a word full of reviews where everything is compared to dark soul or Legend of Zelda you manage to keep it original and let the game and editing talk by itself, thank you for that
Bought this game on your recommendation. Consistent camera/audio glitches and then had to force quit out of the bugged cartographer shop interface. Many bugs reported on Steam. [-20pts to Skill Up Credibility]
Watching you describe this game reminds me of someone talking about The Outer Wilds. A game that is wholly unique, which is not interested in being a game, but rather an artistical experience that can only be told inside a game. Will definitely check it out. Thank you Skill Up!
I never would have known to check out this game without this channel; for that a huge thanks! Some personal experience following the launch to GamePass; my XBox One S did this game a major disservice. Stuttering and input delay and all sorts of performance issues that I thankfully don't have PC. Having a blast now that it's running smooth!
Your opening description of Sable reminded me of why I keep coming back time after time to your reviews. Hope that doesn’t sound to suck uppy cause it isn’t meant too, just meant as a genuine compliment of your writing skills.
I get that the hitchy animation is a design choice, but seems like the game is dropping frames sometimes. Looks beautiful but kinda clunky. Definitely checking it out though. Most games that tout exploration barely deliver.
Yeah, from someone who hasn't played the game yet, I agree that the game looks nice but the.. choppy animation, I personally don't like and it just worsens the overall image for me.
There are some consistent frame drops (on PC at least). I have a 3080ti and it hitches every few seconds. Hope it's just a weird optimization bug and will be fixed with an update otherwise it's a massive downer on an otherwise wonderful game.
There was very bad framerate drops initially. It's gotten better since then but it's still yet to be perfected. As for the character moving at 12fps, it's designed that way to look semi 2D.
Thanks, I enjoyed this during sick leave due to surgery. It was the calm and exploration I needed during healing and a difficult week! Much appreciated for bringing this game to my attention.
Now that you made this video, you should try actually playing the damn game next. It was gorgeous and the music was great.... in the few moments everything wasn't bugging out of control. Towards the end of the game, I would often hear the various instruments in the soundtrack go out of sync with each other. One NPC I needed to complete a quest just turned invisible for a few days; my compass led me to his usual location but he wasn't visible and could not be interacted with. My character fully locked up about ten times in my playthrough, requiring a restart each time, but that's nothing compared to the infinite number of tiny cumulative glitches that often turned the simplest movement task into a Sisyphean nightmare of failed attempts. If I hadn't spent years of my life meditating I probably would have destroyed my computer in frustration. I'm not sure why I finished the game, tbh; masochism is the most likely answer. Well, that and videos like this that pretend the game isn't an absolute trainwreck of unrealized potential.
I love that you chose a soothing voice to show how the game is soothing itself, without having to actually say it. Combined with the transitions and choice of music, this review is almost an experience in itself!
Hearing Michelle Zauner's (Japanese Breakfast) OST the background of this review gave me chills. I'm so happy they got her for the music. Really breathes so much more life into the atmosphere along with the visuals.
I just tried to play this through GamePass on my PC in it is completely broken. A few examples are; text missing from menu and option screens, inputs not being recognised from pad or keyboard, locking up where I can only ctrl, alt, delete out. I don’t know if it will be good or not because I only got into the first part before realising that it is not in a releasable state. I have never seen a game this unfinished.
They released a patch, but yeah in some cases the menu freezes and you get stuck. Deffo an end task type of game sometimes when you need to quit. Thankfully fast travel = auto save too!
@@stephenmilazzo2535 "trendy to recommend" no, how about realizing that not everyone experiences the same issues and actually enjoys the game enough to recommend it? Also it's been patched plenty since.
When you enjoy a game your language blooms in such a joyous narrative, it is a delight to listen to with visual gameplay as the background. Bloody well done
This game. Reminds me of somthing. You know when your a kid and your just running around with your friends at the park or somthing. You have no real goal but your curiousity gets the best of you. Then as time goes on you and your friends somehow end up in an abandoned tree house near the edge of town. No real goal but your curiousity is enough to make it interesting. Im realizeing how rare it is to feel this way.
Aaaaand once again a SkillUp video that fully takes on the defining character of the game, its writing, voice, pacing, music, visuals and editing. Among other things, it helps put the viewers in the a mood, perhaps giving us a small taste of what it will feel like to play the game. Brilliant. If video game reviews can be art themselves, these types of SkillUp reviews are it. Or as close as I’ve ever seen. Thank you Ralph.
I honestly don't even have an interest in most of the games you review, but I listen to your full reviews anyway because your production value and narration style and editing is transfixing. You are doing a hell of a good job my man, keep it the f up.🤙🏽
You have the uncanny ability when you put on this what-you-think-is-deep-and-philosophical voice, like in your Kentucky Route Zero review, to make me strongly second guess getting the game you're raving about.
This video review is one of Ralph's most simple, but evocative to date. I cannot wait for my senses to be stimulated when I play Sable. Thank you for the reviews.
Definitely seems like a beautiful game that forgoes going from point A to B in order to receive C. Unfortunately I personally prefer flashy combat and exploring specifically to receive a reward. But for those who do play Sable, it looks like they’ll really enjoy it.
Just finished the game. I originally only got it to get a quick achievement for microsoft reward points. I rarely ever play indie games, much less finish them. But, by God, did this game grab me in a way I did not expect. I ended up playing it for days, enjoying every quest, every encounter and exploring the beautiful world. I think the moment that hooked me was when I first left Ewer and the music started playing was Sable's journey began. It just struck a chord with me. I loved how rewarding the exploration was, the secrets and mysteries I uncovered. I got so attached to my bike, Simoon, and the ending felt really emotional as it all came to an end. I really love this game. Anyone else choose the Shade mask in the end? The description of the choice just felt perfect for me after everything I went through as Sable.
Skillup's reviews tend to focus on some interesting aspects of gaming. (Sometimes the narrative dissonance. Sometimes the focus is on a feel. Or if it lets the player feel smart). Refreshing - and seems like an interesting game (experience?) so thanks for the review.
Gosh Skill Up your reviews are so dam good that I am just watching the videos now just to absorb how well you ingest and articulate the subject you are reviewing. I am so glad this channel exists!
I had no idea this game existed and I am glad for this review. This is definitely something that I would enjoy playing with my girlfriend. Fantastic review Ralph. Thank you
I'm not one to get hung up on performance, but the performance does not look good in this video. The camera is consistently glitching out when you're using the vehicle, hopefully they iron that out
Your narrative style is excellent and captivating - I always look forward to your reviews. Alas, the SABLE game and graphics looks like they were made for pre-teens. I really miss your fun, upbeat popular game reviews with your brother.
Yeah, these artsy reviews where he talks like he's trying to seduce the audience is off putting to me.. It comes off as pretentious and overly dramatic. I literally cannot listen to him gush about a game in this tone, it's just.. ugh..
Would love to get it, but it clearly stutters quite frequently and that is something I just cannot cope with in a video game. Steam forums are already reporting constant stuttering.
I've played this masterpiece for over 17 hours and I love this game! It's rassuring that there was an Q&R article about the bugs... hope they'll fix that soon :)
Looks like an old French sci-fi comic book and I'm here for it! The sort of comics you would read as a child not understanding what was going on but enjoying the sceneries and getting lost in your imagination and the art on display. Feels a bit like this just watching the review so I think I'm definitely gonna check this one out.
I’m curious about this as well. It’s a deal breaker for me if this is how the game runs the entire way through. I’m sure they’ll patch it though if it is indeed an issue in the game.
It's actually the player character that stuttering not the whole game, just seems that way because the player is the center of attention. Also yes that is intentional.
I think that's actually part of the presentation of the game, it seems really present especially in the running animation. Make use that information as you will.
Finally got a chance to play this. This plays REALLY well.. some really really well done open world design ideas. Also love how much the game trusts the player but man, the game looks like ass. Fully disagree with the review here. When visuals are bad, it is bad. Also people who rave about the music, don't bother to mention how bad the sound FX is. Overall inconsistent package that would have been an instant classic if it had a larger team working on it. At this stage, it is very hard to recommend this to "average" game player
Is that stuttering on the games side or the capture card/RUclips? I know the character is animated on what looks like 2s or 4s but when in the open world it looks like it’s stuttering every so often consistently?
performance is a mess. Ryzen 5 3600,16gb ddr4, 2080super, and I'm playing on low and I get 25 fps in the "complex" parts of the map, maybe 45 in the regular desert. on top of that is constant hitching and stuttering. also don't use a keyboard and mouse because it is borderline unusable. also this game is 90% just walking or riding your bike and then reading so much boring text you actually fall asleep. this game is imo a full year of just performance and bug fixing to be playable. this game is not ready and I don't think this review is genuine at all. I have played like 5 hours so far I think and I don't know if I can keep playing.
This reminds me of my favorite Star Wars moment, scavenging around the humongous abandoned spaceship in the desert planet. The feel of solitude and serenity strike me at the best possible way.
That’s where you will find the new and incredible. Don’t get me wrong I like a lot of AAA games but you aren’t gonna get any boundary pushers in that. Games like this and my favorite Outer Wilds are games that are only undertaken by people with a vision that isn’t controlled by a huge company
I bought this game on release following this review. It looks beautiful, but god DAMN there are so many technical issues, I have no idea if I am just so unlucky that I encounter them all or if SkillUp was lucky when reviewing the game. Probably the former since the game is getting very good reviews from most players, but I see a lot of issues similar to mine in most of the negative reviews on Steam so I know it's not an isolated incident. Frame drops, fast-traveling sometimes put me either under the map or way in the sky (either way, I couldn't see the ground below me), UI bugs (UI elements appearing off-screen or not at all, some placed pins on the map become unremovable, just to name a few I remember) and a lot more. Personally I would recommend putting this game in your wishlist or watchlist or whatever, but wait with buying it until the devs patch out those technical problems because it's really rough for some of us.
People: I am tired of Ubisoft like games. Sable: Here have a new experience People: But your game is not like a Ubisoft game Stop doing the same thing over and over again, expand your perspectives and try new things.
Played the demo a while back and encountered quite a few bugs (one of which crashed the game and another which softlocked it), but the core game play loop was so great that I'm def picking it up
Rock, Paper, Shotgun just did a comprehensive review of this game. They mention a lot of issues too: "None of the irritating things are huge, and in a few patches time Sable will probably be in much better shape. But right now, there are a lot of small irritants to get under your skin all at once. I simultaneously loved the beauty and strangeness of Sable's world, but was tormented by having to exist in it." -Alice Bell What I find peculiar is that Ralph is usually really thorough on his reviews, yet didn't mention any issues at all. Even on games he recommends, he'll mention issues with the game. I've looked at some other reviews, and they mention similar issues too. Did Ralph get lucky? It's possible, but I doubt it. I honestly wonder is Ralph didn't get a little bias in this review, rose tinted glasses maybe. It's an issue with most reviewers, staying objective can be difficult. Especially when reviewing media that can leave a strong personal, and subjective impression on you. Ralph is one of the few game reviewers I actually trust to give his honest, objective impressions of games, but no ones perfect. This may be one of those times where he experienced issues, but didn't notice these issues because he was so enamoured with the game. Just speculation, of course.
@@ReaLMoisan I would argue that staying objective is impossible in a review though. All you can do is try to acknowledge your bias, but true objectivity on a subjective opinion is inherently not possible.
@@ReaLMoisan I actually didn't get far in the video cause i know I want to play it so i don't want to get potentially spoiled on anything, but yeah your post sounds about right.
@@TheHeadincharge So a game doesn't load, is that subjective? Being soft or hard locked by no fault of your own, is that subjective? Frame or audio drops, is that subjective? Accurate or inaccurate hit boxes, is that subjective? A weapon being hit scan or projectile, is that subjective? Every form of media can be assessed objectively. Good and bad, and liked and disliked are mutually exclusive. You can like something that's objectively bad, and hate something that's objectively good.
@@ReaLMoisan it’s possible that Skillup was trying to make a point here with a bit of a ‘less is more’ approach. Paying respect to what he perceives as an amazing game built on a simple premise and constructing his review in the same way as a kind of homage. Just my take on it. I think we’ve all seen enough of his work to know he doesn’t just commentate about things without thought or reason.
Bought this game based on your review and got utterly enthralled by it. 100% it, right before they added this fishing crap. Might go back to it later to do that.
Seems like the character’s forward movement doesn’t match the speed at which the legs are moving. Beautiful visuals overall, although saying they’re inspired by Moebius is putting it kindly.
when I tried the demo during the Steam game fest some time back, stuff like that did kinda bother me, as well as the frame rate. Stuff felt 'choppy'. Seems that's still the case as shown in the review. Dunno if its part of some artistic choice or limitations on the side of the devs. Also noted pop-in of detail in the review, which I think I also encountered in the demo. Not big issues, but noticeable. I'll still be getting it, eventually.
For anyone watching this review right now: the bugs are still prevalent(I played on xbox) and the framerate slows extremely sometimes, but I hear it got patched at some point. My experience certainly wasn't as bad as what people are describing and it was by no means unplayable. If you have a high jank tolerance, I think you'll be fine.
This. Ralph is my go-to source for reviews and I'm astounded he didn't touch on the technical state of this game. Even today, the stuttering and poor frame rate in locations like Eccria, the Whale, the petrified forest or any of the stations are immersion-shatteringly bad. And that doesn't even mention the audio or lighting glitches or jarring pop-in. Seems like they've abandoned the game and have no intention of addressing any of these things. It's a shame, because beneath all of those technical issues is the remarkable experience that Ralph described. But my opinion of this game will definitely come with an asterisk and I have a hard time recommending anyone spend money on it. If you got it for free through epic, or through humble recently, by all means check it out. But at $25? No way.
@@ObiGynKenobi Bought it on sale, remembering how many times heard it was great. Its a great game, but goddamn it is awful to play on xbox series. Making games is hard, and what they done is amazing, but come on, its been years.
This video review is why I always go to Ralph first for reviews, whether I am interested in buying the game or not. When he does his calm narration and allows the game to shine in its visuals and audio by allowing uninterrupted moments of gameplay and sound through his simple but poignant long pauses, paired up with his brilliantly detailed moments of speech, he really proves that he's one of the best in the business at the moment. Other reviewers truly need to take note on how Ralph lets us viewers absorb the review he is presenting. It works wonders. Beautiful review for a beautiful game, Ralph.
@@Enigmalake Yeah, take note. Not stroking his shaft, as I don’t always agree with his actual reviews on games. But how he does his reviews, pausing his review narration to let us absorb the game on our own through the game’s presentation of itself through its visuals and audio, is something that video reviews don’t tend to do nowadays. I would love for other reviewers to start doing it as well. Nothing wrong in pointing out qualities of his reviews that I would love in the reviews that others do, but that’s just my two cents. Edit: also nah I don’t watch Anthony Fontana lol. Just wanted to share my opinion on why Ralph’s reviews draw me in more than others, purely because he allows us to absorb the game in a showcase of the game’s beauty 💁♂️
@@Enigmalake I watch those gameplays from time to time when I have the time, but those don’t have the “review” part that I want as well, which is why I appreciate Ralph’s reviews allowing that sort of momentary “breathing room.” But that’s just my preference :D
This is the only time I’ve been massively disappointed with a Skill Up review. He made it sound amazing but I held off at launch due to people mentioning poor optimisation and bugs. It just came out on PS5 so I thought they would finally be fixed, and the game runs atrociously, which is a shame because it seems like a fantastic relaxing game but bad performance really takes you out of the relaxing immersive feel. Ralph didn’t seem to touch on just how badly the game runs in most areas.. (I’m talking 15-20fps on PS5)
This review is a proof that we need another title system such as : SkillUp loves Sable, instead of recommends. As soon as you started talking about it, I knew it was the same tone that you had mentioning Outer Wilds. And that was what led me to play that game, which was an absolutely unforgettable experience. Thanks for this review!
Those low framerate animations make it feel super weird to me. The gameplay sounds interesting, I actually love the exploration stuff in many video games but the way this game looks kind of drives me away. Though choice.
really dont think i will be able to play this without feeling ill - that running animation is the most hideous thing ive seen in years. which is strange as the rest of the animations and the world itself seem so well done.
Currently working on 100% finishing this game, I think it hides a lot of lessons to be learnt on top of being an incredibly refreshing and mellow experience. Nothing feels like a waste of effort or time, it’s a very freeing play experience that throughout the “story” is a feast for the eyes, ears, and mind. Incredibly creative in many ways, you can feel the love they put into this game.
Something about the way this game looks genuinely makes me feel a little ill, and it sucks because it looks like it could be a really nice Journey-esque style game...
You know Ralph likes a game, when he puts on his "narrator voice" and starts talking in a calm slow manner.
That's when it's like an 'artistic' game. Low key once he starts putting on that voice I know the game is probably not for me.

Your range between videos like This Week in Video Games and reviews like this is wild. Love it. This game has been on my list for a while, and I'm super excited to play it.
So happy this turned out amazing
shit, does that really happen?
@@himmelektronik take any showcases, 99% of the chat will belittle any game which isn’t famous or AAA
@@himmelektronik Yeah. Based on personal experience, there are like 3 archetypes of Twitch chat community
I was excited for both of them ever since I first saw them. Can't wait to play them now. 👍
Kena is pretty fun. Wish there was a little more combat in the game but it's a small complaint.
Kena was not worth the frustration
If we've learned anything about the Video Game Industry within the last two years, it's that during a time where corporate greed, corporate misconduct and monetization schemes dominate gaming headlines there are still so many talented people, and teams pushing gaming as a medium forward and delivering thought provoking and engaging world's, with stories, and experiences that help us redefine what art is.
I've heard this is buggy as hell. Why was it released in this state? Doesn't seem to fly in the face of what you state.
Is it just me or have we been getting more skill-up recently? Loving it!

Of course you recommend it! Just look at it! It’s pure beauty. Been waiting 3 years for this one ever since I saw the dev putting out updates on twitter. It’s been like my own little hype train all this time.
Can’t fucking wait.
Exactly what I did for Kena. It's been so great to see the hype pay off

I'm so glad this wasn't a game trapped on Twitter. Like A Short Hike, it's so cool to see the initial post, get hyped and watch the dev work their ass off to deliver a fantastic experience for players.

Warning: Severe technical issues
Thankfully it was free on GamePass.
I thought my xbox had perhaps too many games paused but after rebooting - yeah, the running animation is jerky and headache inducing!
you can just fast travel to any point in the map and it'll give you your bike back, the animation is like that because they wanted it like that, it is a design choice made by the devs
Thanks for the ova recommendation.
Dragon's Heaven, eh? Will give that a bash. Thanks for the heads-up x
Or "La Matries du Temps" / "Time Masters" the Rene Laloux animated feature designed by Moebius. Its wonderful.
Or Nausicaa, the Ghibli Film that looks like Moebius!
I love how the characters color pallet adapts depending on the ambient colors of the background environment. It’s as if she becomes a part of it. Cool
Sadky not great when you have color-blindness :/
This art style in games is timeless 👌
This is one of the best review I saw in a looong time, I was interested in this game a bit but after heard your review I'm hype and can't wait to play it during the weekend, well done sir. In a word full of reviews where everything is compared to dark soul or Legend of Zelda you manage to keep it original and let the game and editing talk by itself, thank you for that
I'm glad literally every developer decided they can only release games starting in September because Ralph's editor is probably making bank.
There was a LOT of jittery/choppy performance in this review. Was confused as to why there was no mention of this.
It's absolutely stuttering during camera movements, beyond just the design choices.
I refunded after some game breaking menu bugs, and the frame drops are constant

Agreed. Trendy to recommend this game but it's definitely broken.
The GOG version works fine here.

The way you piece together words IS art, my dude. I’m intrigued and trying this because of those words. Thank you.
You put words to thoughts I didn't even know I had. Thank you.
I honestly don't even have an interest in most of the games you review, but I listen to your full reviews anyway because your production value and narration style and editing is transfixing. You are doing a hell of a good job my man, keep it the f up.🤙🏽
Is it just me or is this whole video really stuttery? Like the camera jumping when panning and the ship stuttering around when flying?
You have the uncanny ability when you put on this what-you-think-is-deep-and-philosophical voice, like in your Kentucky Route Zero review, to make me strongly second guess getting the game you're raving about.
I've had this in my wishlist for god knows how long, can't wait to finally play it! Great review by the way!!

This looks beautiful! This reminds me a lot of the style of the Moebius comics 🥰 Just wow!

This video review is one of Ralph's most simple, but evocative to date. I cannot wait for my senses to be stimulated when I play Sable. Thank you for the reviews.
Two year check-in. Sable, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Outer Wilds.
The only perfect games I've ever played.
What’s up with all the jittering and stuttering in your b-roll?
Gosh I love your scripts!!

Skillup's reviews tend to focus on some interesting aspects of gaming. (Sometimes the narrative dissonance. Sometimes the focus is on a feel. Or if it lets the player feel smart). Refreshing - and seems like an interesting game (experience?) so thanks for the review.

I'm not one to get hung up on performance, but the performance does not look good in this video. The camera is consistently glitching out when you're using the vehicle, hopefully they iron that out
The writing (and editing) in this review is as beautiful as the game itself.

Damm, what a beautiful video. Thanks for this, Ralph.
That's why I love this channel.

Feels a bit like this just watching the review so I think I'm definitely gonna check this one out.
I love the way you changed the pacing and feel (even your voice) of this review to match the atmosphere of this game. Well done, as always 💚
Quick question- Is the screen stutter a RUclips thing, or does the game actually stutter every 2 seconds? Great review as always!
I’m curious about this as well. It’s a deal breaker for me if this is how the game runs the entire way through. I’m sure they’ll patch it though if it is indeed an issue in the game.
Yeah this video definitely has some stuttering which could be quite off-putting
It's actually the player character that stuttering not the whole game, just seems that way because the player is the center of attention. Also yes that is intentional.
I think that's actually part of the presentation of the game, it seems really present especially in the running animation. Make use that information as you will.
@@seanw1783 not the video, it's the game, specifically the player character.
The intro and narration drew me in. Thought I was listening to an audiobook for a sec. well done.
Finally got a chance to play this. This plays REALLY well.. some really really well done open world design ideas. Also love how much the game trusts the player
but man, the game looks like ass.
3 seconds into the video... my jaw dropped. GORGEOUS looking game. Sold. Your vids are so great. Keep them up
Is that stuttering on the games side or the capture card/RUclips?

I'd hardly consider this game to be pushing boundaries but ok

Ah yes, one of those reviews where Ralph just tries his hardest to convince people to experience something magical
People: I am tired of Ubisoft like games.
Sable: Here have a new experience
People: But your game is not like a Ubisoft game
Stop doing the same thing over and over again, expand your perspectives and try new things.
Who’s here after ps plus announcement?
Ralph, the way you use language to paint a picture is fantastic. I feel like you're getting better too. This review seems so effortless.
Played the demo a while back and encountered quite a few bugs (one of which crashed the game and another which softlocked it), but the core game play loop was so great that I'm def picking it up
Rock, Paper, Shotgun just did a comprehensive review of this game. They mention a lot of issues too:
"None of the irritating things are huge, and in a few patches time Sable will probably be in much better shape. But right now, there are a lot of small irritants to get under your skin all at once. I simultaneously loved the beauty and strangeness of Sable's world, but was tormented by having to exist in it." -Alice Bell
What I find peculiar is that Ralph is usually really thorough on his reviews, yet didn't mention any issues at all.

I almost ate a bullet watching you play this, I would definitely eat one if I had to play it. Thank fuck I don't have to.
Seems like the character’s forward movement doesn’t match the speed at which the legs are moving. Beautiful visuals overall, although saying they’re inspired by Moebius is putting it kindly.
The character is animated at a different FPS vs the world.
Yeah, the running animation looks very odd to me. Maybe feels different when played.... hopefully!
when I tried the demo during the Steam game fest some time back, stuff like that did kinda bother me, as well as the frame rate.
@@Saint_Cuthbert it's supposed to. It was a intentional, artistic decision to have Sable animated at a lower FPS
@@mantis7331 why do you think they chose that? Genuinely wondering, not trolling.
Skill up your review are amazing 😍😍😍 the only reviwer i trust

I’ll play this with razor finger sleeve
Thanks for the heart
The artstyle reminds me the pages of an 80's comics.
What an incredible artstyle, jaw dropping.
I'll play this on game pass, but yeah that animation is ROUGH. it's very jarring
Really? The art is the best part for me
