    So, not sure if you have a Costco in your area but I use them for home and auto insurance. Was searching for new insurance at the time and decided to check Costco. They actually gave me the best quote so I went with them. Surprisingly, the expected increases year after year have been minimal. This is actually the longest I’ve been with an insurance company as most “experts” say shop for insurance every couple years. Also, you probably know this, insurance prices are credit based. Some insurance companies try to downplay this when you call them but Costco sends it to you in letter form. Credit is very important when looking for insurance. By the way, the ambient lighting in your model y is fire. Wish I had the time to do mine

    About tire repair. A nail in the tire is not a warranty item from Tesla. Later, if you buy tires from a store like Discount Tire they will offer an additional road hazard warranty. Lastly, when tires need to be removed for patching the equipment can be very rough on your aluminum rim (often powder coated) so you may end up with a rim that looks like curb rash. I would assume that tire repair at Tesla takes rim care into account. My experience, Discount Tire did not.

Ultimately went to my local Tesla and they charged 120 ish for the repair so def learned a lesson to go to my local tire shop instead. Also contemplating buying a spare tire and jack. The lack of a spare is the only thing that I’m disliking so far. And a home charger if you can is an absolute must.

    Exact same position as you, was with Progressive for years but rate was increasing…decided to go with Tesla as the introduction rate/quote was great! After about a year with Tesla Insurance I totally regret that decision. Their rates doubled from their initial quote and didn’t realize at the time of the switch that Tesla Insurance would monitor your driving and give you a driving score that at time seems totally off! Censors would go off randomly, etc. The claims process and the communication with their agent was horrible! Anyway, if you can’t tell…I DO NOT recommend Tesla Insurance! But hey…we love our Y & X!

    I personally love any Tesla updates. Car vlogs in Tesla, camping in Tesla, the seat info, etc. Everything a person says about a Tesla I'm watching lol. I'm a mom of a princess and I want the white seats but my husband was like think about it. I plan on ordering a Y-model next year maybe summertime. I'm waiting to see the Jupiter model, and I heard the LED will be included. I'm still not understanding the order to process time, including delivery. Could you explain how long the process is? I also cannot decide on what color I want. So I watch and watch RUclips videos. Has anyone dealt with USAA for their car insurance? If so, is it cheaper? Thanks❤❤❤.

    • @ShaniKalua
      @ShaniKalua  2 месяца назад +2

      lol, that was me too while in the process of buying my Tesla. I was eating, sleeping, breathing Tesla. The length of the process is determined by how far out your delivery date is. If you decide to purchase a car that already available, then the process will be relatively quick. If you decide to customize your car (picking the color, the interior, wheels, tow hitch, etc), then you delivery date may be further out. But the website should give you an estimate. For me, I had to wait about 2 months before I got my car because I customized my car. After you pay the initial deposit, you go through and sign all the paperwork through the tesla app. once you’re done with that, you just have to wait for the car to be ready for pickup. hopefully this helps ✨

    You don't just pay for insurance based on whether or not you've had accidents. Some of it is based on your area and...actually... the difficulties that people are having in that area. Lots of carjackings and stolen vehicles, EVERYONE in that area's rates will go up. Any fraudulent claims.. everyone's rates go up. So they sometimes can't pinpoint the origin of the rate hike.

    Got a Model Y back in May. I'm in Los Angeles so insurance rates are already super high. I'm almost 60 clean record have another vehicle on my policy and was still quoted $2500 for the year. Next month the new 6 month policy came in and it jumped to $3100. That's just for the Tesla. Went with Tesla insurance and I am paying just about 50% less for my both vehicles. CA doesn't use the driver safety score. Otherwise love the vehicle. BTW America's tire I believe fixes flats for free.

      yes, on the Tesla app you can change the settings under "Security & Drivers" to turn on "PIN to Drive". this would make you enter a pin in order to drive the car.
      You can also turn on "Valet Mode", so if you give someone else your car to valet they won't be able to do anything on the screen or open the glove box, they can only drive the car

    • @ShaniKalua
      @ShaniKalua  2 месяца назад

      I do have a mobile charger. Thats the first one I started with, but it takes foreverrrrr to charge the car because it plugs into a regular outlet. Sometimes the car would estimate 24-35 hours to charge the car to 80-90%. Sometimes the car would only charge 5-10% while being plugged in overnight. So I have it as a back up option, but it's not practical for everyday/regular use. The current charger I have charges in 3-5 hours overnight, so it's a lot more convenient.

    • @gregoryhoward5811
      @gregoryhoward5811 2 месяца назад

      @@ShaniKalua So, the mobile charger has two adapters: the 5-15 and the 14-50. The 14-50 uses a dryer plug (4 prongs). The dryer plug normally costs about $300 to install, and if you don't have the NEMA 14-50 adapter, that is around $50. Totally around $350. The wall charger will charge a MY at 44 miles per hour, and a 14-50 will charge a MY at 30 miles per hour. So it's a difference of 14 miles per hour. It depends on how many miles you drive daily, but 14-50 might be a better deal. I wonder if I am missing something besides the 14 miles per hour. (of course this is for your readers because you already have a charger, lol).

      I haven’t had any issues with the cold. My car is always parked inside a garage, so it’s never exposed to the weather unless I’m driving. It’s funny, I’m actually watching this while at the mechanic. I mentioned to him that I was thinking about getting a Tesla soon, and he brought up an interesting point. He said that while Tesla vehicles save on gas, they can cost more in the long run because everything is proprietary. Anytime you need repairs, you have to go through Tesla since they don’t share their repair information with independent shops, which is how they make their money. So even though you save on gas, you might end up paying more if something goes wrong. What’s been your experience with this?

    • @realbro5548
      @realbro5548 2 месяца назад +9

      I understand your frustration, but the negativity about EV’s stem from misinformation about the nature & characteristics of an EV. Your mechanic is right, Teslas are proprietary for a reason. Overall maintenance is very low on an EV. Tires, wipers, washer fluid, & hepa filters are the main expense. The motors are self contained, so they need no maintenance on them. The batteries are warranted for 8yrs/100-120k mi, and typically last over 200k miles. Potential purchase of an EV requires due diligence. You should absolutely plan to purchase a level 2 charger, which can vary in cost, so you can take advantage of overnight charging. One reason that Tesla doesn’t license mechanics for maintenance & repair is because most issues are software based which can be diagnosed & solved remotely or you can schedule at home visits to repair issues. A tint shop cracked my drivers side window. I created a service ticket online & the tech came to my house & changed the glass in my garage! I love my Tesla Model Y LR, which is my first EV. I’ve owned a lot of cars in my life,but there’s
      no experience like driving a Tesla. You should schedule a test drive online. I’ve found in my life you need to inspect what you expect, & get a hands on experience of regenerative braking, which means when you take your foot off the accelerator, the car slows down to a full stop. I use my brakes very occasionally. Brakes can last over 100k miles. I’ve only touched the surface of the capabilities & benefits of an EV, but there are some downsides too. Initial expense can be somewhat costly, but in the long run you’ll still come out ahead. Hopefully you’ll sample the Tesla experience in the near future 👍🏽

    • @ShaniKalua
      @ShaniKalua  2 месяца назад +6

      just as @realbro5548 mentioned, the maintenance required for the car is very minimal. the only issue I've had has been with my tire, which ended up being an easy fix. In the time i've had the car, i've never spent more than $25 to charge the car at a supercharger, and now that I charge at home the cost is even less. it's a depreciating investment just like any other car. Maintenance and gas costs for my previous car was a lot higher than it is for the tesla model y. everyone should be prepared for unexpected costs because anything can happen, regardless of if you drive an EV or a gas car.
