No, standard of living is an objective barometer of living standards, education, infrastructure, healthcare, infant mortality, water and air quality, etc. All of which Scandinavia beats the US in. It doesn't matter if anyone "feels" great living in a poor country, good for them, it doesn't stop their country from being poor though. Also, the vikings were raiders and didn't ever control the territory they attacked. Also I talked about the imperial age of europe which norway wasn't part of.

No, it's subjective. Culture determines who receives resources w/in the environment. Case in point, a darker skinned Scandinavian doesn't receive the same benefits as a lighter skinned Scandinavian. The pedagogy of education/institutions/the public/water&air quality is based on maintaining the survival of the culture. You're giving a subjective opinion on what you feel high standards are, & in turn, you're judging other cultures as being "poor." What does that mean? Vikings weren't conquerors?
