I've been using these since college (2010) and never had an issue like this at all. They'd LIVE in my backpack as I would go to and from campus, work, home, even take them to cons and I never had an issue like this. I use watercolors, markers, pencils, even started using washi tap and no issues. Like you really REALLY need to bash these things around to get any kind of damage to them.

As an artist there is no reason to say it a worst sketchbook. If the paper fall out well then that means the spirals suck which is horrible when drawing I know but however order to say it the worst sketchbook it has to be horrible at everything. The sketchbook is great for me. I’m not saying your video is trash but someone can watch your video and think the whole sketchbook is bad when it not and not buy it. This sketchbook is great for artists because can you use anything markers, color pencils, graphite, paint just everything I do think the sketchbook is one of my top 3 sketchbook. But I will suggest if the papers are fall out just put in in frame and hang them up nothing like see your drawings or painting you created on your walls. good video for explaining why people should be cautious but it definitely not the worst sketchbook for me in my opinion. I hope to see your amazing painting in the future.
Just squeeze the spiral shut, it’s a $7 book not a $700 cell phone. What an insane and false comparison to make. The paper is great. No it can’t stand up to 10 washes of watercolor, because it’s not watercolor paper. But a couple layers? It handles that fine which is what it’s meant for. It isn’t meant to completely replace watercolor paper though.
Are you saying you think this is normal? She just turned a blank unused page with not much force at all and it ripped out so easily. That's not acceptable at all imo. Obviously this is not normal for this sketchbook, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people being offended by her critique and making excuses for Canson. As an artist... I agree to your comment cause many artist, popular ones, and artist who do water color, and even other media’s say that mix media isn’t meant for water color it’s only meant for a little bit of it. They said the exact same thing, two layers. This artist doesn’t have a clue of which’s supplies to use, there is a reason why they tell you how heavy or thick the paper is. The mix media has a 90 pound weight if they call it that and 160 g, a water color art book from CANSON has 140 pound weight to it and 300 g, that’s pretty thick, it’s like trying to create very professional art that require lots of tools on a free crappy art app. I never done water color portraits and I know what type of paper to use if I ever get to that which I soon will. The spiral thing happens to every art book, it happens to mine it’s normal thing cause if you use it a lot it’s gonna do this, it’s an easy fix. It fix it and get a thing of pliers to clamp or just go old school and use embroidery floss which is pretty thick for string, and do the old school diy book. I never, however, had this issue with canson books, maybe you just buy the defected ones and use this for a video. Just saying. I have seen you complain in two different videos saying mix media sucks, well get paper that is meant for the media not go against it!

This sketchbook is actually very good, my only problem is the fact that pencil lead smudges very easily. The problems that you have with it may be because of the way you treat it or, it was probably a faulty build. Idk. But ive never had that problem and ive bought sooo many
Few things, this used to happen to me but I realized why those things happen. One, when you rip off the page by the guided line but don't take off that little paper left behind it can hurt the paper and that whole thing that happened to you occurs because of that. Secondly, the binding becomes weak overtime because of the handling, usually backpacks and things like it makes the binding weak. You're gong to need to fix it by tightening it. It's really not that bad, just use tooth floss to bind it. After this, all of these problems stopped occuring.

You are taking the pages off from the only part on the spiral where there is space. You can't expect that type of spiral to hold pages if you are pulling them on purpose! Just close the spiral with your fingers or a tool and the pages will never do that again. It is design in that way in case you want to take your sketches out the notebook one day.
You'd think that the company would make sure they were sending you a book without any flaws, especially since your first book was very flawed. Honestly that just sucks so bad, and they really need to learn and fix those issues
I'm starting to think it's just a problem with the 7 x 10-inch ones and bigger because with the past two I've had in that size the spiral completely broke off and I've had to put all of the loose pages in a binder. But With the smaller ones like the 5.5 x 8.5, the binding seems to be a lot more sturdy and I haven't had an issue with the binding coming off or pages falling loose no matter the medium I use. (also I never take my sketchbooks out with me so there's no way it's happening because I'm being rough with them. it's just a design flaw.)

We all have our own opinions, we all have something to like, and we all have something to hate. Ture, she was being a bit judgmental about the stechbook, but, the canson sketchbook is not going to be everyone favorite. People might like strathmore, illo, or arteza sketchbooks than the canson sketchbook. But, please if you don't like her opinions than just don't watch the video at all and find one that has positive complements about them. 🙏

i love those sketchbooks tbh i use em alot bht i always undo the spiral with wire cutters and put zip ties through the holes and snip em short so its more durable in my bag
I have the canson mixed media sketch book in size 5.5 by 8.5 and it works fine, but the watercolor pad I bought is terrible the paper falls off in the slightest touch and it’s annoying
I've bought six of these sketchbooks over a couple of years, and the hole problem without being rough happened in only one of them, but in less than ten pages and none fell off. All the other ones work great, if it ever got a hole in the perforation it was because I had acrylics on both sides of the paper so it made sense it was a bit too much. The paper itself is really awesome, as i said two sides of acrylics and no bleed through or major problems. I think you just got some defective ones

The first thing i do when I get wire bound books is thread some string through the binding and tie it there to make sure no pages fall out, not because canson is bad, but because all spirals will loosen up over time. As for the perforations, if you use wet media, you should avoid painting over the perforations, because water weakens the paper there. I don't think its the brand's fault. I think this would happen with any sketchbook.
It could’ve been that a certain batch of products that they made had the design flaw cuz I’ve been using canson mixed media sketchbooks for years and so have other ppl in these comments and they don’t have a problem
Hey, do you have some advice for something. I have this type of book and the problem I have is that it doesn't take watercolors well, like it gets all warped when you put just a thin wash. Even when using colored pencils it gets like this with the solvent. Do you have a recommendation for a medium to use for these books? Thx! 😄
I bought 4 of these sketchbooks on Black Friday and I’ve had both of the issues you’ve had but not as severe. I only use pencil and pen and I barely carry it around, so that may be why I don’t have problems. Now I have 4 of these, I have to use before switching :/
I just contacted Faber Castell and I’m hoping to get some replacement pens because when this stuff happens, it’s super frustrating. I’ve found if a company sends you the “tough titties, thanks for your business” message, jump on Twitter, decry the product and tweet that you’ve had problems and no help from the company. Usually with 24 hours someone will contact you and give you some replacement items. Works every time. It sucks because Canson paper IS really good, but like you said, the binding/spiral or perforations are shit. Strathmore’s paper is a little grainier and rougher but their products are generally of a much higher quality (and price unfortunately). I’d recommend their mixed media pads or one of their pads that is near card stock paperweight. I hope you find a pad that works for you! Also you’re cute.
Guys the sketch book is good a lot of professional artist use them and myself I used them too so she most def got a bad one and they have different sketch books for different materials like for paint or water paint
Exactly. She's saying being rough won't damage this paper, yes it will. The perforation is tough but if you're being too rough or if you're piling endless amount of watercolour/paint onto this paper, the paper will deform.

To be honest I almost never use markers and when I do use pens I stick to bleed-prof so I'm as lost as i can be when it comes to that lol. I'm so sorry I don't have a good recommendation to help you though
Strathmore 300/400 series mixed media and Bristol board are both great for markers and pens besides the fact that they suck up the ink faster. If you don’t care about that, then you should try them out. They have much less of a tooth than the canson one which is much better for inks and markers

Bunny Lover Bruh- Almost everyone uses this sketchbook including Baylee Jae for Copics. If you never bought the sketchbook stop complaining. I use this sketchbook over my middle school years and it really good sketchbook for copics, waters colors, etc. The paper wraps if you using an insanely amount of water on watercolor paint or acrylic in general. Canson and Scratchmore are actually good sketchbooks. It also affordable in Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, other stores etc. She babbling too much over the rip which she smudging and putting too much pressure, it doesn’t really matter anyways because you can buy washi tape and tape it across the line if it doesn’t rip bad or rips in the middle. She bullshitting way too much and thi is only video that has a really bad review which can easily be solved by tighten the wires

I really wish that pages coming out of my sketchbook was all I had to worry about. I’ve had this sketchbook sooooo many times and not had this problem, including the last 3 I’ve had in last 6 months. Also, you kept repeating the same thing over and over. Plus lots of swearing. Also just put some tape on it or something. Small price to pay for how lovely this paper is.
Baja Gee Even though it mixed media she probably put an insanely amount and shit which is why it’s wraps however it absorbs all the water which is one of the things I want which at least doesn’t smudge to the page even for my copics

this has happened to me (with the spiral, completely falling apart) for my last TWO sketchbooks

I've had the problem with the cover coming off because the spiral thingie isn't that great, but I've never had issues with the perforations.

For the second sketchbook the spiral binding wasn’t tight enough you can fix it with pliers or something else

I never realized how much i disliked the canson paper since the switch, i used to love them with my heart but now i dont as much..affordable option but quality is meh..

Why is this video getting so much hate? Everyone should be mad at spiral Canson sketchbooks, not at the person trying to save your money. Also, I was just reading the reviews on the link to this sketchbook and the only complaint everyone has is that the pages rip out too easily.
Bunny Lover Bruh- Almost everyone uses this sketchbook including Baylee Jae for Copics. If you never bought the sketchbook stop complaining. I use this sketchbook over my middle school years and it really good sketchbook for copics, waters colors, etc. The paper wraps if you using an insanely amount of water on watercolor paint or acrylic in general. Canson and Scratchmore are actually good sketchbooks. It also affordable in Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, other stores etc. She babbling too much over the rip which she smudging and putting too much pressure, it doesn’t really matter anyways because you can buy washi tape and tape it across the line if it doesn’t rip bad or rips in the middle. She bullshitting way too much and thi is only video that has a really bad review which can easily be solved by tighten the wires

I really wish that pages coming out of my sketchbook was all I had to worry about. I’ve had this sketchbook sooooo many times and not had this problem, including the last 3 I’ve had in last 6 months. Also, you kept repeating the same thing over and over. Plus lots of swearing. Also just put some tape on it or something. Small price to pay for how lovely this paper is.

Baja Gee Even though it mixed media she probably put an insanely amount and shit which is why it’s wraps however it absorbs all the water which is one of the things I want which at least doesn’t smudge to the page even for my copics
