That's exactly what I thought!!! At it's usual price I shudder but 6 quid was an offer I could not refuse

Price point is high because it's 100% cotton. Interesting considering it's a multimedia sketchbook. I suppose that's to make happy those who add a bit of watercolor to a page. I like it but I wait until it goes on sale. As for pricy sketchbooks, (whenever I get my hands on one) I make certain to use every single piece ... I refuse to let it stare at me; saving it for what exactly?. We're not promised tomorrow as my grandmother used to say. 😊
    Thanks for the honest review.

After years of trying to find a sketchbook I like I said screw it... Bought the paper I like and learned to bind it all into my perfect sketchbook.

I got one as a gift, turns out those are the 500 series paper, which is their top end 100% cotton paper. I assumed it was the 400 series at first, which are the papers in pads with the brown or green covers, but nope it's their best. 500 series paper is sold in pads with white covers, though the 400 series mixed media is super nice too.

Very helpful thanks!! Definitely a high price point but I’m just happy keeping my art in my sketchbooks kind of as my final pieces? This may change in the future, but for the moment I also do the dual sketchbooks where I use the ones where I don’t really like the paper as my test designs etc and am still looking for my new favourite actual drawing book 🤞😁 (Last one I loved can no longer be purchased so am in a painful stage of testing new sketchbooks and generally just being disappointed 🤦‍♀️😢😂)

I get around the “anxiety of ruining a nice sketchbook” by having a dual-system. I have a “throw-away” sketchbook where I just mind-vomit and sometimes it comes out eh and sometimes I really like it. When I really like a piece I just transfer it onto a nicer sketchbook and finish it from there. You won’t use it as much as the other one, but at least it will get used.

what you said hit close to home, I have a couple of $1 sketchbooks I bought before lockdown (thank god nervous shoppers were hoarding on essencials while I got cheap sketchbooks)and I been prefering that over the nicer sketchbooks I have, I also have been making my own and testing different papers

Hey just a suggestion, but have you tried Crescent Render sketch books? I have a couple and the paper doesn't bleed through on the other side.

I made the horrible mistake to buy a LEUCHTTURM1917 sketchbook for £18 and now it’s staring at me with its crisp white pages and intimidates me with how expensive it was. I don’t even know what made me buy it honestly. I was and am perfectly fine with my sea white and Brighton sketchbook and it cost me only £8.

I was shocked when I looked it up and it retails for 24 USD!! I have one and I don't recall spending that much, I must have used a coupon or got it on sale! It would be fun to buy the larger wire-bound books and cut them down to bind your own sketchbooks tho!

Yeah it's a very expensive sketchbook, I cannot fault the quality at all but also that price you could buy the paper and make a sketchbook for yourself that would best suit your needs

my best advice on using expensive sketchbooks for working outs is to sketch on the side of the bleed through of your markers. depending on how dark the bleed through is you can either sketch directly over or just coat it with cheap acrylic paint if too dark and sketch on that. youre not wasting nice paper that way, youre using up both pages and youre getting some working outs into your sketchbook if you're the type of person that only has one sketchbook at them at a time (I travel a lot so I don't wanna carry a million sketchbooks with me but I do like nicer paper if I get my markers out). the "ugly page" can then serve for thumbnails and you can do a final sketch on the next page

if ur interested in paper that’s good for marker, the Crescent Rendr takes it so well u can actually use both sides of pages without bleeding through. however the cons are they’re kinda pricey and pretty much only good for marker and dry media.

Eeee! Thanks for featuring my Dragon!! 😄
I used one of these sketchbooks and filled it. I got it 40%off and used a gift card else I would never spend that much on it LOL. I liked it, it was nice. I hated the cover, the paper smoothed out too much after I used watercolor and made pencils hard to use for me. Also the texture went from too smooth to rough after lots of layers but that could be my paints since they are more chalky. I wouldn't pay full price but it was decent.

Strathmore has this 500 series 100% cotton paper as sheets. And it’s 300gsm. They have for hot press/pressed: 5x7 with 25 sheets for $7.19, 8x10 with 10 sheets for $11.20 and 11x14 with 10 sheets for $12.51. For cold press/not pressed they have: 5x7 with 25 sheets for $10.45, 8x10 with 10 sheets for $10.75, and no 11x14.
They even have packs like a 3 pack of the cold press 8x10 (10 sheets in each pack so 30 total) for $25.75, and a hot press 2 pack of 8x10 (10 sheets each so 20 total) for $23.54.
