Canson mix media sketch book is absolutely amazing and I've filled probably about 5-7 of them but I just can't stand spiral binding and mine tend to self destruct, I wish they were perfect bound!
Surprisingly super helpful thank you! It's been hard trying to find videos that cover what I'm looking for! I'm starting some art therapy classes this fall so I'm needing to look for a mixed media sketchbook that doesn't bleed through, warp too much and isn't spiral bound so this has helped a lot thank you again!
I'm with you - the perfect sketchbook just doesn't exist! Hahnemuhile makes great paper - I'm not sure I've seen that one, they can be hard to get here in Australia but I'm going to try!!
I'm with you. I started with Canson mixed media and am so comfortable with it for ink drawing. I was looking for the same 'type' of paper but slightly thinner for journaling, because I think I could probably do with slightly thinner paper? Honestly the $5 Artist's Loft sketchbook is the type of journaling paper I'm looking for, but have no idea the paper weight of that. Any suggestions for a not too thin, not too smooth journal?
I miss drawing in sketchbooks I haven’t been able to get one in a while but I’m looking to get one I’ve been drawing on loose leaf papers and it’s just not the same but I can’t seem to find one with good binding
Omg!!! I was searching for “best sketchbooks” and clicked on this not realizing it was you. And then I was like, wait...I know her!!!!!! Good info. Thanks for sharing this info. I subscribed and am looking forward to more videos. Cheers. Have an artful day.
Yea I hear ya! I used to do that all the time. For some reason a couple years ago something changed inside of me and I just had to finish before I’d allow myself to go on. I still do have some older sketchbooks that aren’t filled until the end though.
I have the Canson Mixed Media and it sadly bleeds. I've researched on what sketchbooks take in Ohuhu markers and came across the Rendr. Let me tell you, I totally thought it was a scam, but it ABSOLUTELY does not bleed through. Idk what they do to their papers, but it's amazing for Ohuhu markers
does it take things like copics? i love to apint but also recently got some markers and i want a sketchbook that can take both. pls can anyone recommend?
I was hoping you would review Moleskin sketchbook but I learned about these instead. It would be nice if you listed all three sketchbooks on a piece of paper at the end or begin of video because I had to re watch the whole video to find the NAMES of the second two Stillman and Burnes zetta series and Hanna Mule Watercolor sketchbook. I don't even know if I am spelling correctly.. .
This comment is 9 months old so maybe you already discovered what you needed (in which case, disregard my reply) but if not: click on the description under the video title and you will find the names of the sketchbooks, plus links to said books.
Great review, I switch around between canson to practice and S &B for when I am really trying, everytime I go back to canson there is something about it that is just really easy, not for watercolor though. I may have to add the Hahnemuhle into the mix for more watercolors only.
Does the canson mixed media take solvent and coloured pencil well? I want to get this sketchbook but it's £13 here in the UK. Which is okay but I wish it was at least 10 or something. I'll probably get it.
@@ArtbyMarciaFurman postage is 5 quid 😭 probably because it's made in the US. I watched another video about coloured pencils and they said that canson mixed media is great for coloured pencil. I really want that specific one as it has a ton of sheets. But oh well.
@@ArtbyMarciaFurman I'm looking into the Zeta series of Stillman and birn mixed media. Because you are replying to me, I just wanted to ask, is it smooth or does it have a rough texture. I've ordered some polychromos, and Zest it. Because I want to try and get into coloured pencil. Do you think your sketchbook takes watercolor well? There is different series, but I'm not sure which one takes coloured pencil and solvent the best. I don't have any experience on this whatsoever. I've only ever done graphite drawing on standard sketch paper.
Would be way more helpful if the cover was more visible or a shot of it was included in the video because the stickers cover all the relevant information. I know you say what it is but would love a visual example!
Most of the covers are just blank when you buy them. I guess they might have a removable sleeve when you get them, but I’ve been using these and don’t have that part anymore.
excellent vide!.. I know you said these aren't sponsored, but I hope you used affiliate links at least cuz you provided a lot of value here! 😌thank you!!

Oh yea. I wish they would sell that option too!
I love Canson sketchbooks but I absolutely despise the spiral bounding😞
I agree with you. ☺️👍🏻
Every spiral bound book has perforated pages which sucks.
Yea I don’t understand why they always do that! I haven’t had a problem with Canson coming apart u less I want them to though.

Thank you so much for sharing! As a fellow RUclips artists it's really helpful to hear reviews to know what my next book will be!
Glad I could help! 💓
@@ArtbyMarciaFurman Awe, thanks for the reply!
Thanks for this very helpful and inspirational rewiew! I want to try Hahnemuhle watercolour book and just now ordered it.
They are so nice! You’ll love it!

Yea! Hopefully the price isn’t inflated! I get most things off of amazon since I can’t find them in actual stores.
I’m aussie too. I’ve yet to find a sketchbook that feels professional to be able to use alcohol markers etc properly.
Does marker and acrylic bleed through the pages in the Canson or the other two books?
I love your artwork!

Yes, there really is something special about a sketchbook. I hope you can find one soon!
Thank you! I’ve ordered the first one for £14!

Hahh that’s fantastic! I’m glad that this video is persevering through the algorithm! Yay!
Thank u very much and im glad the product can ship in the philippines by tha way stay safe
The spread with animals and butterflies looks fantastic! :)

For the first one can it do comics?
would the last sketch book you talked about take acrylic paint well? I mainly paint with acrylic and watercolor.
Does Canson Mix Media take topics/ohuhu/etc? I've been trying to find a sketchbook where it doesn’t shadow/leak to the other page. 💖
The Rendr sketchbooks take the Copic markers really well 👌🏼

Can you do acrylic in mixed media?
Absolutely!
Art by Marcia Furman thank you!!!
I'm looking for a mixed media sketchbook that can take alcohol based markers, any suggestions?
Btw really nice video, it was quite useful
Thank you! I’m sorry, but I rarely use markers so I don’t think I can give a good recommendation. lol
does it take things like copics? i love to apint but also recently got some markers and i want a sketchbook that can take both. pls can anyone recommend?
I like ilo and strathmore, I’m more of a spiral bound fan tho😂
What stickers did you use on the second sketchbook?
Some of them were just from a scrapbook store, some were from my pipsticks sticker subscription and some came with my Run the Jewels vinyl. 😁

how did you make your cover on the first reviewed book ??
I think that one is just a collage of different stickers. ^_^
I don't know why but I couldn't find the canson mix media it in portugal, not even online
Hmmmm interesting!
love the stickers ;) where do you get them?
Thanks! They are honestly from all over the place! I just collect them here and there so I can’t say specifically. 😂
@@ArtbyMarciaFurman ah ok, i was going to say redbubble , they're a good site for stickers and other art
Leslie Ryan I do make my own stickers, but I’ve gotten them from tons of artists I like.
How did you decorate the cover of the first sketchbook like that? Can you do a tutorial?
It is just a bunch of stickers! They all are. ^_^

I never can decide which I love best honestly. I switch around too!
Ur so talented, love ur work!
Thank you!
What gouache do you use? Love this video though! Thank you!
Honestly I use a bunch of different kinds. Anywhere from generic Michael’s brand, to Holbein. I almost love Aqyla gouache too!
Can you paint on the canson one with acrylic paint /acrylic markers? Because I try to find a book for this?
Yes, I’ve done it and it works just fine!
Does the canson mixed media take solvent and coloured pencil well? I want to get this sketchbook but it's £13 here in the UK. Which is okay but I wish it was at least 10 or something. I'll probably get it.
I honestly don’t know... but I feel like it would be fine since it takes watercolor fairly well.

The zeta series is actually REALLY smooth! I think it’s the smoothest one out of all of them!
Is it suitable for oil paint?
Which sketchbook and what kind of paint?
Do you know, how these take alcohol based markers?
I’m actually not sure. I’m not great with those markers, so I don’t use them often. 😅
Canson can handle the markers that I've used okay, there's slight bleeding but it rarely ever transfers to the next sheet. I hope this helps?
These cost like double on Canadas amazon
Bummer. 😕
