      If you ever watch Extreme live, Gary Cherone is just like that on stage. He always moves like aerobic athlete, can't just stand still, moves his hands and twists his body. It's just don't really match in a Van Halen concert, hence why you said he was looked like a VH contest idol winner.

    • @andresihotang2314
      @andresihotang2314 3 года назад +6

      @Daryl Wheeler You're right. Extreme is a funk/funky-metal band. If you listen to their music, you can imagine their vocalist must always be moving around like a maniac, and the other 3 members also can't keep quiet. Van Halen is a different kettle of fish for Cherone. VH vocalist must have a charisma and control on the stage.

    I've seen Van Halen in concert ten times and with all the different lineups. The concert with Cherone was great because the setlist covered the best of their ENTIRE catalog, and Eddie looked like he was enjoying himself for the first time in years.

    • @har9020
      @har9020 2 года назад +5

      @Thomas Cavanaugh I doubt it. The album he did with them did not do well and I think their record label let them know how unhappy they were. Some of the tunes written for the second record with Cherone got reworked for Cherone's later project called Tribe of Judah. There are some good songs on that record, like "Thanks for Nothing" and "East of Paradise" -- those were much heavier than most of the material on "Van Halen III" and I think could have made for a great second VH record with him. Personally, I think the major mistake in VHIII was having Mike Post as the producer.

      Yes, he CAN sing alright BUT, to me he sounds too screechy squeaky for Van Halen! Just my personal opinion, you'd need more baritone there, he seems pitchy all the time. Funny, but Michael Bolton could've done a better job, don't you think? Also, Gary's overdressed for the part, he looks like a nerd among rockers. Just imagine Ralph Macchio with Guns 'n Roses, get the picture? 😂 I like Gary's voice don't get me wrong, but I think he's better off singing his own songs, should've stayed with Extreme, i loved him in Extreme.

    Damn, loved this man!. Van Halen fan here, I just want to say Gary Cherone is one hell of boss performer!🤘 Eddie made the right choice by choosing him, He's such a talented singer, songwriter and performer....His stage presence is captivating when you see him perform live. Saw Extreme concert and he owns the stage with some very cool antics....You also need to watch the "Freddie Mercury tribute in 1992" where Gary and Extreme played all the famous Queen Hits and He owned the stage I've never seen any frontman or band, the way He captivate and pumped up the crowd into joyful hysteria jumping and singing along is such an epic joy to watch, watched it 20x times already....they owned the stage and did the best tribute and performance that even Metallica and Guns and Roses are also there to pay tribute to Freddie, those bands paled in comparison to how Gary and Extreme performed. That's simply the most epic tribute I've seen by an artist. Gary is the Man!...cheers.😄

    I saw this tour, and while it was nice to hear the old Dave era songs live again I was embarrassed for Cherone. Vocally he was strong, this video does not do him justice, but his stage antics were cringe worthy. He had big shoes to fill, and I think he just tried too hard to fill them.

      I disagree, respectfully. I think Eddie took Hendrix to another level - and I think Nuno built on Eddie's style and took it to yet another level but the 'quantum leap' - comparable to Jimi showing us what 'else' could be done with the instrument - is happening with Jeff Beck..

      @Daryl Wheeler You make a good point, but David Lee Roth will always be the real Van Halen. As far as I’m concerned without Dave in the band, Van Halen was just an Eddie Van Halen solo act, but Dave is what makes it Van Halen!

      I always get crap for saying 1984 is the best DLR record. And probably my favourite overall. But the Sammy years were just better all around. They became an actual original band during that time. Eddie never played better than the F.U.C.K./Balance era. Just my opinion of course.
      But I can agree with your statement.
