I think most Americans like me got this album in the wake of Jailbreaks huge popularity in 1976. It was definitely a different vibe and quickly became one of my favorites. Very eclectic and rich. Its impossible to rank it in their catalog, kind of like Fleetwood Mac's incarnations. They are all great.

Just found your channel, I gotta find out did you do side 2 yet. Gonna Creep Up On You and Black Boys On The Corner are 2 of my all time favorite songs. Not just Thin Lizzy, but any band. You gotta give Thin Lizzy credit for originality, they did stuff no other band could even conceive of.

You should definitely do more Thin Lizzy. I would recommend side 1 of their Chinatown album ✌

I bought this album used many years ago and still have it. This phase of Lizzy’s career needs more love!

I agree, the 3 Eric Bell albums, the first 3 are my favourite era since I found them. Not the most balanced albums maybe, Vagabonds probably the most balanced of the 3, not all songs having a sense of direction maybe, but there is also the most brilliance.

Wow, what a fantastic reaction video! This album is great and it is interesting to see what they did as a power trio before they became the twin lead guitar band that most people know. There is a charisma to Phil's bass playing and his vocal phrasing. This is increased when you got to see them live. It is like you couldn't take your eyes off him. What a fantastic composer and musician. I agree with all your comments about the band and about each track. In future you might like to react to side two!

You also make sense, re playing a whole side at a time. Bands used to agonize for weeks over song placement. There's a story where Al Kooper was helping Bob Dylan on- I think the album was Blonde On Blonde, not sure- but Al played keyboards, helped produce, was probly the full time designated driver since he didn't drink. Anyway the recording was DONE but Bob couldn't decide on the track placement, after 3 weeks or something Al quit arguing, left, & said he'd see what Bob finally decided when the album came out. So many of these reaction videos finish a song & CUT when the next song was obviously intended to be a part of the whole, not two separate pieces. A Led Zep song- Good Times Bad Times, maybe- & Van Halen doing You Really got me come to mind. A couple Black Sabbath reactions were utterly ruined that way too. Anyway. Great stuff, man. For some really cool rock n roll, something different but banging, I bet you'd love an album called UFO 2 One Hour Flying Space Rock. I think I got the title right. Close enough to find it, & a side of that UFO album will blow your mind, man.

Criminal that this didn't make a huge impression, I have always loved this record and hold on to the original vinal with all my might. And a mistake for you to not follow up with side two.

I think whoever recommended this album to you did you a favour. It goes deeper into the band than most people care to explore, but it might be the pinnacle of Phil Lynott's writing. Slow Blues is probably the weakest song for me, Mama Nature Said could have been written today when it comes to the lyrical content. The Hero and the Madman was the closes Lizzy came to prog. It's about the price of fame and the way people build you up and tear you down. The Rocker is tongue in cheek, Phil living up to his image. Side two has a couple of tracks at least as good as anything here: Vagabond of the western World and Little Girl in Bloom. The first is Phil at his most Irish and poetic, the second is Phil at his most romantic and tender.

The Hero and the Madman is bordering on radio play, and retro-actively reminds of the Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds play that featured Lynott. It always seemed very Irish to me, their story telling tradition rather than just singing about themselves.
