I just got one today. It's amazing that you can watch VHS through HDMI. Sadly it didn't come with a remote. I ordered one from Amazon and hopefully I can start ripping my VHS tapes.

I have this device but my remote doesn't seem to work. Is it possible to transfer VHS to DVD without the remote? I tried the one touch dubbing button for video to DVD but the disc doesn't seem to work. Does it still need the finalize step even with one touch? If so, how can that be done without the remote? Thanks for any guidance you can give.

Before trying to dub sure you first select your DVD source and change the input to “Line 1” or “Line 2” it won’t dub from VHS if the DVD input is set to “DV”.
Also, you can order a third party replacement remote if you don’t have your original.

For some reason when I click dubbing it works and then it randomly says updating disk and then just sticks on the white screen

I would love to know what resolution the DVD is captured at. Is it upscaled from the VHS player, or not? Thanks

I own 7 DVD recorders, but none of them are Sony. All of my DVD recorders will not dub Macrovision encoded VHS source tapes. So either your copy of Ace Ventura is not Macrovision encoded, or your RDR-VX535 does not detect Macrovision when recording to DVD. Have you tested any tapes on this unit that you know have Macrovision copy protection encoding?

The copy of Ace Ventura that I used does not have Macrovision encoded. The machine probably doesn't record many other commercial tapes.

When you started the “DubbingProcess” you didn’t explain very well which to select to actually start the dubbing which is why I believe this video was made, so sad that you spent so much on detail about hooking a simple setup up and you get an F grade for explaining how to start the dubbing process correctly.

I just purchased a unit similar to yours at a garage sale earlier today. The one I got is an RDR-VX555. It came with a remote, but I didn't know until after I got it home that the model number on the remote did not match the model number of the unit itself, as the number on the remote is RMT-D240A. If the remote you have is the original one that came with your machine, it looks exactly like the one I have, which evidently doesn't work with mine.
Other than that, the one I got works very well.

RMT is the model number of the remote itself. It won't match the VHS/DVD player model number.
