The chain got thrown off when i was trying to cut wood for the winter storm coming up in the next few days for our wood stove. Ive got a 9 mo baby and a tropical parrot that thanks you for this helpful video.
Just bought a Makita 16" Electric. Your video helped me adjust perfect tension when before I could not figure out why the chain wasn't tightening up. Big THANKS! I also learned a few more tips. You did a great job communicating in basic "man" language and probably saved me having the same problem. Take care, God bless you and your family and Merry Christ-mass. Stay safe!
I've got one, I've used it over 20 times now and love it, ensure you never run out of oil and keep that chain on the tighter side. I've had mine pop off 3 or 4 times when I first got it, had to file the edges smooth for the chain to fit back into the track. It works well, have done loads of hinge cutting and I cut a few 14" trees. Just need to take your time.
Thank you! loose chain, all i had to do was remove the chain from the blade part follow your video on how to reassemble it and now it's cutting through saplings like butter!
Very good video. I would suggest thought to people that first they give the chain a thorough eyeballing and find the links of the chain that need to be filed. It could be just a few burs that need to be smoothed and that can get you back and running without needing to stop work and buy something.
This is not a power off switch. It switches off automatically after 2s. It is an on switch. Also lift the tip of the bar when tentionning. And do take out at least one battery when manipulating the chain.
we just got a brand new one at my work and same problem, WTF Makita? how about making a saw that doesn’t damage the drive links if it throws the chain.
Question. If that's is a 1400W chainsaw driven by a 36V4A battery, for example (let's say 160W maximum power) does that mean the motor drains almost 40A from the battery, or does it stop at 4A and the motor is in actual 160W motor with some clever torque mechanism to make it as powerful as a 1400W motor? Thanks in advance for your reply!
So the batteries are rated for 4 amp-hours (or 5 Ah for some models) which tells you the capacity of the battery, or in other words the amount of amps you can pull multiplied by the time it can sustain that amperage. So for example each battery could pull 4 amps for 1 hour. Or 1 amp for 4 hours, or 40 amps for 0.1 hours. All of those combinations equal 4 Ah. So that number on the battery doesn’t really give an indication of how many amps you can actually safely pull from it at any instant
My chain came off but the motor would not turn the chain after replacing. I tried with out chain and the sprocket would not turn but you could hear motor running.. Any idea.? It’s like a shear pin must be sheared off someplace.
Yes Douglas, you are right. I have not had to repair something like that on an electric chainsaw, but is sounds like something is up with the clutch and sprocket. Are you going to try to do the repair yourself or are you going to take it in for repair?
I have not decided yet... I bought the saw April 2020 but only used it one time cutting limbs from trees. Then this Monday May 23rd 2022 took it out and was cutting pallets and hit a nail ( Not good) chain came off. Thus there I am... Not sure if there is anyone close to me to take it.
I have the same model, I am not new to chainsaws. There is inherited problem either this model and no matter how tight is the chain it will come off then it will hit chain guard and this will damage chain driver link. I think the nose of the bar is not wide enough and this may have contributed the problem
Thing that worries me. If you are using a chainsaw one of the basic things you need to know is how to replace the chain and how to check and set the bar tension. You need to do that before and during use as a chain will stretch and become slack through use. If the owner/customer is sending the chainsaw for repair just for that reason should they really be using a chainsaw? Could end up being very dangerous.
Clearly I’ve been over tightening my chain… mine was like a guitar string. Weirdly, my makita pole saw (36v brushless) was having issues in that it would keep cutting out the motor (stalling) as I started to cut … would this also be because over over tightening the chain?
Mines popped off twice ruining 2 blades. I probably dont have a total run time of 5 damn minutes on the thing. I did everything you did when i installed it. Total bs.
@@small_engine_repair cuz 1.1 cuts faster, has less vibrations, BUT when you want to throw a smaller tree, the moment you put saw horizontally the chain falls off. I tried it many times to tighten it in various ways but it always falls off. I have ms231 with 3/8 1.3 chain so i wanted to put it on 3/8 1.1 bar, but i was afriad it would ruin the bar, even tho 1.3 does slides on the bar. Ive worked with chainsaws, just never with these small versions. Maybe im little bit overcomplicating haha, but that cordless makita is amazing little thing, even tho it is heavy for its size and power, its convenient and nevery betrays. I also tried to file down the rakers to the lowest, but i ruind chain, the saw is not that strong to run the low rakers haha, dont even try it haha.
Best to keep the batteries out when putting the chain on.
Good point.
Or the front safety lockout

Yes, these are good for small jobs around the house.
Thanks, turns out I had my chain much too loose. You’ve solved all my problems!
Awesome!
The most helpful video we found for setting the new chainsaw up. Makita owes you some $$! Cheers mate.
Glad it helped

Thank you for the video, I’ll be fixing up my chain tomorrow!

Thank you. Appreciate you posting.

Yeah those burs can be tedious to clean up.
Suggest you take the batteries out while doing this. I always disconnect power when changing blades on any tool.
Yeah I look back and think that was stupid of me!

It is an on switch.

I wonder if it is just shipping without the correct chain tension. I did not read the manual, but maybe it says to check it before first use.
Helpful. Thanks. But, I agree that taking the batteries out before replacing the chain is a good idea.
Yes I agree

Pepegaka to be honest I do not know.

That was exactly what I needed!!

Thank you for the very clear and helpful explanation and GO Bills!
Welcome. Go Bills!
Thanks, you helped me figure out the funky tensioner/locking feature on my Makita.
Great to hear!

Possibly. To much pressure can cause things to bind.
I herd the makitas like too throw chains and sthil bar and chain is better the makita uses oragon and you check your chain tension on top
Thanks for the information.
Chain just needed a sharpen n adjustment
Good
You did not say direction of the chain . At lest I did not see.
Yes the chain does need to go on in specific direction. There are markings on the chain to indicate the correct way.
If you don't know the direction of the chain, please don't use a chainsaw.
Mines popped off twice ruining 2 blades. I probably dont have a total run time of 5 damn minutes on the thing. I did everything you did when i installed it. Total bs.
How tight are you adjusting the chain? When pulling on the chain, the drive link should not come out of the groove.
Thank you good job
Welcome 😊
1/2 inch is correct
Thanks
Pull the freaking batteries already!
Yeah yeah yeah
The Makita 36v chainssaw is a massive piece of shit and waste of money
Why do you think that? I have not personally owned one. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Nonsense
@@kennethrobinson6401 why's that ? I tell you my experience and it's nonsense eh... You didn't have to comment , but a troll will be a troll
I have 1.1 chain and bar, can i buy 1.3 chain or i need to buy 1.3 bar aswell ?
You will need a new bar as well. Why are you wanting to change it?
