Was googling to find Otomo w his assistants and discovered the work of his son, Shohei. INCREDIBLE ballpoint pen work. Unbelievable how much talent runs in the family.

I wonder if you've ever heard of Naoki Urasawa's manben? I'm quite new to this channel and haven't dug deep into your catalogue so apologies if you're already familiar with it, but it's basically this documentary series where manga artist Naoki Uarasawa goes to meet other manga artists and talks to them about their process. Their work is recorded in video for a few days and then Urasawa sits with the artist and talks with them about their work and interviews them as they watch the footage together. It's an amazing series.

Theres a special edition DVD that has a FULL SET book of the Akira boards for about 100 bucks. The printing isn't quite as nice as these books but yes I've already ordered the reprints!

I absolutely love these kind of books, especially when you're able to compare between the two. Needless to say I've been digging into the comparison a bit of a creator mentioned in this video for my current project. Fun seeing how manga vs storyboards, and thinking about those different approaches to storytelling. Appreciate you guys sharing this!

You guys should get some board artists from animation on for a chat. Ed is correct in the apprehension of choosing compositions. Because it's film, and there are cuts, the compositions have to work with each other in a way that is specific to film and obviously way different from comics. As a board artist, I find comics an intimidating medium and way different than film! It's also very interesting to see the difference between Japan and the west in how boards are interpreted by the animators.
