Yesterday, i saw the ones with Fde serocote, checked it out, and it felt very good tight n very balanced. It was $1450. The next gun on the list was going to get tonfoglio limited extreme race gun in 40S&w for same price, now debating. Also, I picked up the Appolo11 compact yesterday. Haven't shot it yet. Good luck to everyone. God bless us all.
After the initial break-in I have not had any problems with mine...that were gun related. The magazines, that's another issue. I would suggest learning how to tune the magazines if you want to continue to use the Springfield mags as their quality control seems to be lackluster. As a note, Atlas Gun works sells their standard magazine for the Prodigy, stacattto, etc.. They are fantastic and at the time of this note are in the $65-$70 price point, which is not far off from the SA mags and less that Staccato mags, which also work in the Prodigy. ( I have connection whatsoever with Atlas other than being a big fan) I have the Holosun 509c on mine with the SA baseplate. That paring is rock solid with no modifications needed and has been rock solid for me through about 1500 rounds now.
I watched an armorer video who was tuning this gun he discovered that the optics plate screw was too long and interfering with the extractor. It may also cause the screws to back out.
I have the exact same model and it's been amazing... everything exact the optic plate like you described. Every 500 rounds you have to take it off and put it back on.
The Prodigy is my first "2011" style pistol. I enjoy shooting it much more than I anticipated. That makes the optic plate issue even worse. I have the same issue with plate coming loose every range session. I have cleaned the threads, gotten new screws, used lock tight and Vibra tite. Still comes loose. very frustrating. I have not tried the red locktightt yet. Please share your progress.
Glade some people have get good ones. I bought one and before I fire it the safeties fell off and when I call springfield they said I have to pay to get it fixed. I committed on a instagram post of there and they blocked me. Not much a fan of the company. I'd just save and get something better, from a company that cares about 2a right and it customers.
My local gun shop/range has the 4.25" Prodigy as a gun for rent. I loved shooting it and ended up putting 500 rounds through it. I ended up going with a Canik because I could get the gun, four extra magazines, cleaning and lubing supplies, a range bag, and 1,000 rounds of ammo for a couple hundred dollars less than the Prodigy itself. The Prodigy is on the short list for my second gun purchase though...
My local shop has the exact pistol and I have been waffling whether to get it. I think the optics plate issue has made the decision not to get it. I was able to shoot this at Shot Show and really liked it but the optic situation has always annoyed me. 🤷🏼♂️
You have to clean the holes out in order for the screws to hold. Had the same issue till i cleaned them really ggod. 1911's love lube, lube makes screws come loose.
I'm waiting to see if Springfield gets their issues worked out before I buy one. It may be an inexpensive 1911 DS but that much money for any pistol should not be having this many problems. I'm not a Springfield fan, but I would buy this if and when Springfield gets in act together and fixes all the issues I see people are complaining about. The issues you and some others are having are not break in issues. I see that some reviewers are not having issues, which indicates that maybe Springfield has some QC issues.
They better hurry before their competition releases their own version of a 2011. Either Smith or Sig will probably be the next big name company that releases the next 2011.
Yup very good point point and agree with you! I’m glad I got this gun and love shooting it but you are right, they need some better QC on in their products🙌
I have the hex optic on my 4.25 I have 2k round so far tho through it I had 5 hard stoppages after 20 rounds I was shooting htp and core-bond hollow points then I shot 500 rounds of ball ammo no issue but my rear sight on the optics plate got loose so I applied thread locker it stayed on aft 500 rounds of hst +p but the front post got loose I replaced it cleaned the gun the remaining rounds same issues with certain hollow points or any extreme penetrator or defender will not feed sig sauer vcrown will also not feed great guns when it performs if you Cary one have a back up great video happy yours is running
Thanks for the comment and info! Man I really wish the optic plates would stop coming off!!! And yeah I’ve only shot FMJ thru it with very little issues. Thanks again for the comment!🙌🙌
@1stShotTactical - The only issue I have is the very small pin hole on top of the barrel that’s closest to the optics - when you fire a round, it releases gases that cloud the optics. Is there a workaround for this?
adapter plate is the AOS made by Agency Arms.. same used on Staccatos, nighthawk, etc... you're the only person i've ever heard of having this problem.. the sights are another story. lol
Great video right now im having a hard time choosing between the springfield prodigy and the stealth arms platypus im leaning towards the platypus for a direct mount optic and glock mags and it only cost a few hundred more then the springfield
what did you torque those screws down to? I've also heard that the threads sometimes get oil in them, not allowing the loctite to perform as it should so they need to be cleaned prior to use.
Im still deciding on whether to get this or an FN 509 tactical. I haven't heard as many complaints with FN's 509 series compared to the complaints that the Springfield 2011 DS has. If i do get the ds prodigy, I most certainly hope I get one that isn't defective. I'm not much of an optic user with handguns so I wouldn't run into the whole optic plate issue.
Did you have the slide hanging up at all on the disconnector? I have 150 rounds through mine, no malfunctions but if I manipulate the slide by hand it gets caught up. Deciding if it needs to go back to Springfield or maybe just clean and shoot it more to see if it goes away with the break-in.

Had the same optics issues I used Blue loctite and still had issues. I switched to vibra tite and haven't had anymore issues.

For a $1500 gun, this is unacceptable

Oh that’s terrible to hear! Sorry you had that experience and yes they need some better customer support👍
Good looking set up! Lots of mixed reviews on this piece. Would to shoot one someday. Good vid, Brian!
Thanks man!! And yes love this thing!! They just need to fix the optics plate and sight!😂😂

Agreed! Absolutely love the shoot-ability of the gun but the optic plate has been a true annoyance man!! Still a great gun tho!!🙌

@davidsawyer6003 agreed. Keeps companies from getting complacent and to actually listen to their customers.

Did you have any bullet setback? I was using the Hornady critical defense rounds and it would pushing the rounds back down into the casing
Can you run like staccato mags with the prodigy.
Great work Brian! Much luv! 👊🏽
Hey appreciate it man!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I heard the staccato and the prodigy magazine are interchangeable
They are!! I might have to try some staccato mag! Thanks for the comment!🙏
@@1stShotTactical The mags at Atlas Gunworks are exceptional and their standard mag is is the $65-$70 range. Will save you about $30 or so
Over 2k on two different prodigies and I have had no plate issues
That’s awesome to hear!! Mine has been better now with the red locktite 🤘🤘
@1stShotTactical - The only issue I have is the very small pin hole on top of the barrel that’s closest to the optics - when you fire a round, it releases gases that cloud the optics. Is there a workaround for this?
Oh that’s odd🤔 I haven’t had that issue as much. My optic does get dirty over time but I just clean it regularly 🙌
@@1stShotTactical it’s a known issue and it drives me nuts

I have a Bul Armory SAS II, one magazine has a rattle, one does not.
Yeah goofy
God bless ya brother
Thanks for the comment partner!!🙏🙏

Both are great choices!! I really like the prodigy besides the whole optic mounting issue! I would love to try the Platypus too!🙌🙌
I love my Prodigy - no issues and I got it for cheap. Platypus is getting really good reviews though if that’s within your budget.

A striker gun to a SAO? Co comparison. It’s like comparing a electric car to a 60s muscle car
I have staccato magazines and they shake just like that

Dawson makes the plate for Spring Field!
Oh gotchya! I wish it stayed on better still!!!😂😂 thanks for the comment man!🙌
@@1stShotTactical It's too bad you are having that problem! I'm at 1000 rounds on my Prodigy with no issues and using the Hex optic for mine.
@@richardmustard4039 Ohh that’s awesome to hear!! Yeah I’m hoping the red loctite holds but I’ll keep ya updated🙌🙌
I have exactly the same setup lol
Love this gun dude
Awesome to hear you love it to man!!! And thanks for the comment!🙌
I picked one up at my local gun shop.
The trigger sucked for a 1911
It would need to be replaced
Junk parts most likely mim
I would like to have one. But is this your go to gun 🔫 if SHTF.
I don't use optics, so no problem with optic plate for me...
Thanks for the comment and there ya go!!🤘🤘
I heard Staccato magwells work on the Prodigys .
Ohh I’ll have to give one a try! I didn’t know that🙌
@@1stShotTactical The Dawson Precision Gen 2 mag wells are a good option as well
How many inch-pounds are you using when installing the optic plate?
Which plate did you get to mount the holosun 407c
all my staccato mags rattle. But when inserted into the gun, rattle disappears.
Can confirm, all of my stacatto mags rattle. It's because it's a 2011 mag. Build a mag around 9mm and the problem disappears.
Thanks for the comment and good point! I’ll have to confirm with mine🙌
What size screws did you use for the red dot?
I forget the exact size… but check out my other video I have Ip installing it!!
Lol, my Atlas mags rattle too
Ohh sad!! 😂 it’s not a big deal but just kinda Annoying lol
How often do pew videos get demonetized?
A lot lol😂
Not buying one just because of the plate adapter screws.
degreas your threads befoure useing lock tite
That’s a great idea!🙌🙌
The grip looks terribly oversized.
Lol I have small Donald Tump hands😂😂
@@1stShotTactical Well with the weight of the world in his hands I can understand.
This pistol is a mess. Has Springfield fixed all this shit. So many issues I’ve seen on this pistol.
Just buy better magazines
Truth!!!🙌🙌 thanks for the comment!🙏
"Budget" friendly lmao

Yea it’s definitely not a cheap pistol lol
