I’m a career firefighter and this is spot on. In academy and during most shift workouts it’s body weight and cardio. Strength is crucial as well as being cardio fit. We have to move heavy stuff for short intervals and moving an unconscious 250 person is impossible if you don’t have strength.
Sadly most of the training in military is endurance training . Most marines go to the gym and lift heavy when they aren’t working though . It’s not structured into the training though .
The reason is because you don't have gyms and all that shit in war. Comfy FOBs that aren't getting hit constantly? Sure. Other than that, ammo, food, water, medical and munitions are far more important. Without regular weight training, that work disappears because you're not getting the same amount/quality of food or sleep let alone gym time.
Just a normal guy, have a background in wrestling and martial arts. I weigh 130 and I run about 6 miles a week. The other day I was hiking in the mountains around a lake near me and someone in my group sprained an ankle. They weigh 145 and the only way to get them to a safe spot for first responders to get them and transport was to carry them piggy back style up a rocky trail going uphill in the mountains for about 300 yards at times bear crawling up the rocks. As soon as I got home I found this video and I will say you are completely right. Strength is a real game changer in real situations where you may have to carry someone else and possibly the packs too. I will be changing the way I train.🙏
Thank you been telling my wife needs to experience some have lifting.. she's a firefighter paramedic and EMT. The department has them all brain washed for cardio.. great video!
Great video. I am a State Trooper and all we did in the academy was run everywhere and CrossFit like workouts. We had one day a week where we "weight trained" but we took that as a free day and nobody really used it for strength training. When I graduated I was around 170 pounds (lost about 15-20 pounds) and lost strength because I entered the academy with a weightlifting background. Well, when I started to go out on patrol wearing our duty belt (around 20-25 pounds depending on how much equipment you have), ballistic vest, etc, I felt weaker and started to experience back aches. I went the route of powerlifting (powerlifting about 5 years now) and even though I am about 250 pounds I feel stronger, "lighter", and my back doesn't hurt at all from wearing my duty belt. I wish police departments would stop emphasizing being "fit" to "cardio" or crossfit. When I tell people I powerlift/dabble in strongman stuff the first response is "well how fast can you run a mile?" To which I respond "I'm slow af but I can Squat around 450, DL 525 (just hit that PR before this quarantine mess) , and bench close to 350 (I know, not elite but i worked my ass off for those)." Instead of being like wow you are healthy or fit or whatever, everyone says "well you dont do cardio" TLDR: Awesome video and very accurate
Preach brother! I used to do a lot of powerlifting before enlisting in the Marine corps and had to lose a bunch of weight before I could. So I dropped from 265 to 200. Sadly I lost most of my strength with it. Not all but a lot my squat and deadlift were both well over 600 and now pulling 375 is difficult. I've maintained strength better than I expected but there's definitely a difference in how often I seem to feel joint pain, muscle soreness or my bones just feel under uncomfortable pressure. Gonna apply more of this training style.
Matt I can't believe that you give us such a high quality info for free! Being a student atm I am broke, but since serving the army in Greece is mandatory your manual is a must imo! So I will grab it the moment I have the money! Thank you for everything, and i really appreciate the work you do with the kids especially Trey! God bless you!
Very smart sir! Thanks for the info. Very useful! Stop letting Mike Ohearn use your to train his followers! He acted like he was teaching you something! And he was your equal! Not even close!💪💪
Tbf mike o Hearn acts like that around everyone . The one time it was legit was when he taught jay cutler how to bench because jay cutler didn’t know how to bench at all lol .
Great info and learn something from every video. Ive seen that your gym offers online 1:1 training but do you offer any 1:1 training at your gym with trainers?
In your opinion is the type of DL you do important (trap/sumo/conventional) matter when it comes to training for the fire service? Back squats and conventional DL has always ended up injuring where as trap DL and belt squats haven't.
@@WenningStrength People are ridiculous. You put out good info and they criticize. Anyway, nice video. Very well thought out and spoken. They would take your meathead card away except you're jacked.
If you go into a fire and try to rescue/carry somebody alone, you are doing it wrong. That's never gonna work out. It's movie bullshit that nobody actually does. Obviously strength is important, but keep it real.
How about train for absolute worst case scenario? Or is that a bit much? If you KNOW you can handle a casualty alone if needed them you you will be even more confident when you have a partner.

First lets offer a prayer for the gains we lose while in quarantine
Amen brother
Not if you know progressive calisthenics .
There are lots of bodyweight and band movements that can keep your gains longer than you think
And Remember Kids Don't Do Crack Cocaine not necessarily true
And Remember Kids Don't Do Crack Cocaine Olympic lifts are silly anyway .

Matt C I agree. The emphasis on endurance training is counterproductive.

That's because the military cares about endurance more than raw strength(even though they absolutely do want you to be strong).
@@lukelyon1781 I know
The military's understanding of training is still very primative (in my country at least)

Respectful answer!
I like Titan, he just not honest about his TRT use. Not a bad thing, just not upfront, likely due to contract limits.
You have to be careful. Some people are just freaks. He’s been jacked - strong and non injured for 35 years. That’s not really the mark or a drug user

When all this COVID crap is over you need to meet with Trump and explain this to him. Make our military stronger and more effective fighters.
Maybe one day
I think trump would do everything in his power to get this done

Is it the same if you are a female firefighter?
Yes the numbers may be lower but for females resistance training may be even more important
Wenning Strength so it’s a win win situation for loving to lift heavy. Cool!!! 😁
So women in law enforcement is stupid, right?

Jesus dude get a life. Don’t be in a position that you can’t do it if you need too. Don’t be the weak man on the team
