I would LOVE for you guys to have Zach and Arie test this tire, against the next step up in sport tires, like the famed S22, to really see just how far you can push this road 6. I can’t find any comparisons between a more touring oriented tire like this and a tire your typical aggressive sport rider with occasional track days type rider would gravitate to, like the S22. Just how far have these sport touring tires come? Let’s get a vid on it!
Yes! I actually was debating the S22 vs the Road 5 at the start of 2021, ended up going with the Road 5 for longevity. But I want to know the grip differences!
@@StarFox31 From personal experience there is barely anything between the S22s and the Road 5s, besides the S22 having a more aggressive profile (but the road 5s are very aggressive for sport touring tyres too) there is no upside to the S22s on the street, none at all. At the track, the difference is still minimal, Road 5s are a bit easier to overheat than the S22s but you'd be hard pressed to find a fault with them unless you're Marc Marquez, and then ofc lest we forget about the 2-3x longer life of the Road 5s
The road 5s came on my Trident 660. Absolutely amazed by the performance in the rain. I rode through an absolute frog drowner of a storm with water rushing across the highway and they cut through it with no problems. I will 100% continue to put these on my bikes in the future.
Yup I agree. Had them on my ninja 400 and did the same thing. Rode thru an absolutely insane downpour going about 60 and they cut right thru the rain no problem. I won’t get any other tire now
I get them on Yamaha MT 07 2022 also and i did already 20k kilometers and i didn’t spend 1/3 of tire. I road them on highway and twisty roads, rain , motorway and other…Also doing some roll on spins and slides rear tire for fun in urban areas. They doing well and i will buy 6’s because you can trust the tire for sure.
@@charlesriley6650i mean I've already rode thru downpour so thick i couldn't see 5 feet in front of me and i was sideways on the highway fighting the wind blowing me off, and my 130 dollar shinkos held up just fine on my shadow, vulcan, and blackbird
Even my power 5's in the rain on my 636 are phenomenal on crappy Florida roads. Only tire I've ever felt comfortable on in the rain in over 10 years and over 80,000 miles on 2 wheels.
I’ve run Pilot Power 3’s for the last nine years…Don’t do big mileage. Been caught out in rain more than a few times including a mountain hail storm and never worried about the wet traction. Need new tires this year, aging out not wear, and I think the Power 5’s will work for me and my occasional wet ride home.
Got 4,500 miles out of dunlops. 10,500 out of road 5's. Put road 6's on a couple weeks ago, great tires, alot of cold and wet confidence. I never worry about grip
I doubt that. Maybe they will make a tyre that can do that but it will never have maximum traction, part of having high traction is the high friction and rubber you leave behind that sticks to the road. Honestly they can with present technology make a tyre that will outlast the life of a motorcycle however it will have the grip of a 1960's tyre which is nowhere good enough for high performance motorcycles of today's era. If you want a long lasting tyre honestly some of the cheap Chinese tyres last the longest however the grip on any of those is sometines borderline and other times flat out dangerous.
Switched to Road 5s after getting caught in a downpour. Watched the Road 5 reviews and went for it. Much better grip, quicker response turning in, and they really hold their feel in the rain. When my 5s finally wear out, I guess I'll be moving to 6s. If they give me 10% more life, and better wet traction and feel, so much the better.
@@ful48j Bridgestone Battlax. That's as much as I remember of them as that I swapped them out after having the bike (R1200RT) for about a year. I'm not the original owner, so they may have served the previous owners riding style better. Rainy commutes and back road touring for me feel more planted on the 5s.
@@cliff8675 I've had Battlax (worst tire ever had on a bike), Power 5s, Pilot Power 2CT, and currently running Road 5's, w/the Road 6 going on my bike next Monday. Out of them all, the Road 5's are hands down, the best in all situations. Riding from Maine, to South Carolina and Back, getting caught in a couple extremely harsh rain storms, and held constant highway speeds of roughly 85mph without a worry in the world. From the Tail of the Dragon, to New Hampshire Kancamagus highway, to just screaming down the Northern Maine Highways at 200mph, they've taken everything I've given them, and not once made me feel uneasy. Was extremely hesitant doing w/the Road 6, as the 5's have been amazing, but hey, they say it's better all around, so I took their word for it and ordered them, and now excited for my Trip to Florida, over to Texas and back to Maine in June. For the record, 14,000 miles on the Current Road 5's, and could easily finish out the summer on them if I wanted with how much tread is left on them. No other tire has gotten me over 6k miles on my ZX14R, so with that alone, I'm extremely impressed.
@@JMackin1016 Great info! How do you like Road 6 so far? I'm trying to decide between the road 5 and 6. I currently have Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tires and it's time to get new ones. Thank you, and ride safe my friend.
Got a little over 8,000 miles from a pair of Road 5s on my Triumph Speed Twin. A lot of that was on the freeway; when I replaced them, they had tons of meat left on the outside edges, but the center was worn past the wear bars. They never lost traction once. On my second set now, and I know I'll be moving to a pair of Road 6 once these have worn out in a year or two.
For CA, the canyons and 95% dry conditions the Dunlop Q3'S were incredible. Now back in EU :( i use Road 5's. For all the reasons explained above, these tyres have never let me down. Lot's of trust and confidence in all conditions. 11,000 miles and still have at least 3,000 left.
UK Subscriber here, Had the PR4's on my 2003 VFR vtec, was new to biking so didn't know any better. Switched to PR5s a year later and TOTALLY transformed the bike. Absolutely amazing in the cold and wet. Got about 10-11k out of them Today, having to put the 6's on, £350, ouch. £50 up on the 5s, so will have to see how they go.
I have Road 5s on my 09 Speed Triple and 04 V-Strom 1K. Very different bikes, but...these tires transformed both bikes. Great traction accelerating, stopping and cornering regardless of the conditions, and they are wearing incredibly well. A new bike is coming in 22 - probably S1000GT - and I'm already planning on putting 6s on it after a couple thousand miles. Very high trust factor for me. Thanks for the initial review!
I have mounted the Road 6 on my Honda Crosstourer for a month and after 1500km I can say that they are really fantastic. Excellent comfort, excellent grip both at high and low speeds. truly a tire to make kilometers in peace without taking away the sportiness, because I must say that they are also very sporty. Greetings from San Marino and Italy
After 38000km (nearly 24000 miles) the Road 5's on my 2013 Honda NC700D Integra finally need replacement. (The bike with its panniers weighs about 238kg.) I could squeeze a few more kilometers out of the rear tire. I've been using Michelin Roads since the 4, and they are fantastic. Due to the price I was tempted to look around for cheaper tires; but since my life literally depends on these I don't want to compromise on tires.
I tried to find some sort of guideline for the weight/when to equip the GT version but couldn't find anything. However, on the Michelin website it lists the available sizes of the Road 6 and Road 6 GT. So I suppose if the GT doesn't fit your bike, there's the answer - although not particularly satisfying.
@@lau5067 I had hoped to use the tire load index to figure this out myself, but the standard tires have about the same load indexes of the GT. So no real help there either.
The 5 GT tire literally transformed my FJR 1300 from a bike I intended to sell (as I didn’t trust the handling with the Pirelli Angel GT it came with used) to I bike I really trust and totally enjoy. Was stunningly impressed! The Pirellis would “tram line” (follow the tar/ gravel grooves) on the chip seal secondary roads we have in Eastern WA. Can’t wait to try the 6. My 5s have 6K miles and still look great. I’m guessing I’ll get another 3-5 K before they’re all done.
have the same on my 06 fjr. Best tire in the rain, even got some of my buddies on sport bikes and they love them especially on some of these south Louisiana un expected rain showers.
@@theenzoferrari458 I'm an experienced rider racer mechanic, and I trail brake a lot. I experimented with various pressures per Dave Moss tuning if ya know who he is. Steering head bearings swing arm bearings are good. Suspensions tight n properly adjusted. It obviously was the tires. It's a heavy bike that thats hard on front tires and encourages aggressive riding.
Hi Mark, Would you put a Road 6 or an Angel GT II on my VFR 800? Back in Perth Australia I'm getting much more summer weather than Spokane! I have Pirelli Diablo Rosso III on my old CBR 900RR and they stick to the black top like wet toffee to carpet!
I went to my dealer today to have the road fives installed because they’re significantly less expensive than the road six and still a great tire. Well they didn’t have the road five so they upgraded me to the road six at the Road five price. Most dealerships are not going to do that for you. The pricing was very competitive with RevZilla. My dealer came in just a couple dollars cheaper but I was ecstatic to get the road six for the road five price
just fittted my 12gs with these have them for 2 weeks now been in rain and dry and im most def impressed. Going through the corners is effortless riding in the rain was very stable and planted felt totally fine riding the back roads at 60mph. have my psi at 42 and feels really great.
When you say you can see the two compounds, you can see it really good and the rear tire that's sitting on the stand. You can actually see the line where the the hard center material stops and the soft side wall material begins. It's very clear on that tire sitting in the rack
Tiger 1200, I have had the Road 5 both the GT and the Trail... Both lasted 10,000 miles...and they were done. I ride occasionally with a pillion and do muti-thousand mile fully loaded trips a couple of times per year. So expecting more than that on a heavier bike is not realistic. On a lighter bike, maybe so. Great grip in both dry and wet conditions. Love the tires.
I have owned a multitude of cars over the last 45 years, and only once I made the mistake of buying non-Michelin tires for them. I quickly learned my lesson and never did it again. Same for my motorcycle. After the OEM Metzlers wore out, I bought Pirellis, and after 200 KM, the handling was so compromised that I threw them away for a set of Michelins, and over the last 20 years have not deviated. When you have experienced the best, it is hard to like anything else.
Road 5 series changed my mind 100 degrees about tire safety and technology. I have a spider touring . Top performance in rain at 90 . It delivers . I can’t imagine the 6 it’s gotta be amazing
The road 5’s came stock on my 2024 MT07, I’m a beginner rider and these things are great, I go from a gravel driveway to the blacktop road. They are friggin awesome, low speed maneuvers and all. These tires do rock!
I did wet weather track day riding with Pilot Road 4 on my GSXR 750, they were great - they even survived dry weather punishing on the track with no problems
I just put the road fives on my 2010 Kawasaki z1000 and they are absolutely fantastic tires. If these are an improvement I will be very impressed. Love love love my road 5 they are I'll say it again simply fantastic tires
I have been riding my Victory Cross Country Tour on Dunlops for years. Seeing this video, convinced me to convert to the Mich 6. Can't wait to try 'em! Thanks guys!👍
Drove to Orlando yesterday on a concours 1400 in the rain and this tire truly shined. Going from dry to wet and never noticed any type of funny business. Also it stops amazingly.
Bought them this year when I was on a trip to the northcape. Got the Road 4 tyres and the were worn out. It was such an improvement and could test them in the best environment in the world, Norway. All the elements were there so I could test them really well. Drove for more than 13.000km on them trough Europe. The cold, and rain in Norway and the heat in Corsica. They are perfect for the BMW R1200R and I had alway's good grip and felt save with them on te bike.
GT version of many tires are offered for “heavier” motorcycles. No one seems to reference what “heavier” means. What curb weight are GT tires recommend for? Thanks.
OMG i was just thinking about doing that for my V4S Multi Ive already blown through my first two sets, i stuck w/ the stock tires on the second go. But ive been doing a fare amount of off roading and camping w/ it. These tires here would prevent that. Ugh🤔
@@magicoddeffect I tried exactly this, but the load ratings are the same on the standard and GT. For instance, the 120/70ZR17 standard and GT are both rated at 58W
I can say that on my 2016 BMW S1000R I've run two sets of Road 5 tires on it and one set had 9000 miles with 3 track days. The second set had 4000 miles and one track day when I sold the bike and the tires still looked great.
Just fitted these road 6's on my BMW f900r and so far impressed as I'm in the UK and we get a fair bit of rain these tyre's grip very well in the wet... Excellent review by the way... 👋👊👊
I replaced the Roadtec 01's on my MT10 with the Road 6's. I haven't tested them in the wet as im a fair weather rider, but the dry grip is a step up from the Metzelers. The profile is more pointy and as the bike seems to turn much quicker. I previously dropped the yoke down the fork tops by 10mm with the Metzelers to improve the front end, but may go back up 5mm with the road 6's as they are much quicker to turn in. As for pressures I've found the rear to feel better at around 37psi cold and the front at 35psi cold. I'm a light rider at about 80kg (175lbs) suited. They really are great tyres, and to me at least, a big step up from the Metzeler Roadtec 01's.
When exactly should I be considering GT? Can't get a definition of a "heavier bike" currently ride a Ducati Multistrada which is a fair old lump for sure but which version should I be looking at?
Appreciate the review brother. I currently run Pirelli Angel GTII's on my fjr1300. I will seriouisly consider the Michelin's for my next set. At this point, the Pirelli's are performing very well in the rain and dry. keep up the great work, all the best from Oz.
Road 5 CTs. I just got 19K miles down to the cord on a 5 CT on my rear on a Concours in 8 months of FL heat. The front looks almost new. I ride 42 psi cold. Finally someone (Michelin) is making tires that grip and last! For the disbelievers, I don't sell tires. I just ride them.
Speed Triple 955i …. Got through a set of Road 5’s and thought they were good, had a set of Road 6 for some weeks now. Amazing! Don’t think twice get them
My Concours14 seems to chew through Road 5GTs, especially the rears. I live in Iowa and head out to Montana and Wyoming in August. I think that 80+ mph with headwinds squares them off. I tend to replace my tires early because I don’t like trying to find tires on the road. The Road 5 is still the only tire that I will run on it.
@@IRLtrolls my concerns with some of the other tires was with the load rating. The Concours isn’t exactly light weight. I have Roadsmart 2s or 3s on my Z1000, don’t remember which, and they have been good tires. They don’t have to deal with the weight or stresses of pushing the Concours through the air.
@@IRLtrolls That’s good to know. I think my tires wear prematurely due to days on the slab regardless of the brand. I hate to even think of the cost of my next set of tires given inflation, increased oil prices and supply chain nonsense.
@@IRLtrolls have a new set of Road Smart 4s on my Concourse. Had 14K on the Road Smart 3s that were replace but could have put more miles easily on them. Preparing for long road trip is the only reason for the change. Had Metzlers and Perellis on this bike really can't go wrong with any modern tire. Only change is I run a 190/55, little higher load rating plus seems to give more accuracy on the speedometer and the turn in on the big old boat is a little quicker, less effort.
I’ve been liking the Metzler Roadtec SE01 on my C14 4K miles on some of the worst pavement on the planet in the highest temperatures. Seriously pushing them on mountain and desert roads well over 145mph two up and solid as a rock. I did pick up a nail on the way down a mountain pass rear tire and it held form well enough from 80 mph to stop on a treacherous corner.
@@blueberrywilbur315 I used to swear by Metzler tires, but they were kind of slow to the dual compound tire and I kept wearing the middles out of them. Living here in Iowa, I do that anyway, but they were worse than others. I'm sure that they have gotten much better than they were when I ran them on other motorcycles. I think pretty much everything has.
What im interested in as a new rider, is MAXIMAL wet weather grip. Even if i lose 5km/h top speed, i'd rather have 50% better grip in the rain. Also a dumb question, but the tires are meant to be fitted so the "pointy" shapes face forward, such that any water gets diverted to the edges, correct? I've actually seen bikes with them fitted the other way, which kinda made me scratch my head..
Just got these for my XJR1300. I am very impressed after 600kms on one ride. I was on Metz Roadtec 01’s but not anymore. Nothing wrong with 01’s but the 6’s just feel so much better under load and mid corner.
I have been using the Road 5 for a year and put nearly 5000 miles on them. , and they have been fantastic on my Ninja 1000 (dry weather - i don't push anything if I get stuck in rain.. Great grip and tracking stability. Just slightly less responsive than the the Power RS (discontinued)
Update. I am now at about 9,000 miles and both tires are almost at the center wear indicator.. Counter-steering noticably harder the last 500 miles.. I drive my bike pretty easy and avoid "the slab" whenever possible.. Hard to believe anyone got 18k miles from these tires, even to bald. Considering that I used to get about 6k with the power 3 and power RS, I am happy. Looking forward to getting some Road 6's soon
Great detailed explanation of the true. Well done. Have Road 5 on my street triple RS but will have another rear road 5 before swapping over as the front has so much life left and I don’t want to mix 6 rear and 5 front. 👍🏻
Just completed 700km on new Road 6s on my Z900 in hot and wet weather, coming off oem roadsport 2s. At first I was confused because the bike felt "heavier" and sluggish, like the bike was stuck to the road. As I rode on, it turned into such a confidence boost, especially in the wet weather. I was comfortably doing 160km/h in rain mode and didn't hold my breath even once. What an upgrade, dankie Michelin ✊🏾
Hey Spurge, could you guys please do a video showing how they handle in wet weather conditions. I love the 5's but are the 6's going to be that much better in the wet..?
Loved the R5 on my K1300S. Knee down grip rain or shine + decent mileage given the weight and power of the bike. R6 would be my go to choice were I to move back to a large sport/sport touring bike vs. my adv bike hands down. Nice review.
I hope Michelin do make the Road 6 trail version. I put Road 5 Trail on my Tiger 900GT to replace the Metzeler NEXT stock tyres. WOW, what a difference in the dry and the wet. The 5's are awesome, so the 6's should be even better
It's likely they'll continue those sizes since they've already invested in the equipment. I have them on my VStrom, and they transformed the bike. 6s will be next - after the finally wear out :).
i did close to 29,000 KMs on roads/tarmac using the road 5s. got to just less than 1mm before i hit the safety pimple. Just got my Road 6s today. Hope they'd last just as long! Riding on a Triumph Speed Triple 1050R ABS
I run Q3+ or Q4 on my pure sportbikes, but for my sport tourers, I have liked the Road 5's... You can ride them hard and I have done a track day on them and they were great. This 6 looks even better, and that will be what I go to next.
Nice video and the road 6 tires look like a excellent choice for my Ducati Multistrada V4S but was wondering about a top speed their rated for that the videos I've seen don't specify?
Great tires, except for the tendency to pull one direction when riding straight. Thought it was my front end alignment until I discovered others were having the same issue. Weird. Otherwise, it’s a good tire.
Love the 5s. Never seem to get all the life out of them as I seem to have a nail and screw magnet on my rims. They do handle great both dry and wet. I look forward to trying the 6.
If you don't already try to ride wear the other cars have their tyres go across the road. That way you have less chance of getting a puncture as all the others cars suck that shit up for you.
I just bought a 2023 Yamaha MT-09. I'm thinking when the time comes I'll purchase these tires. I'm not planning any track days and ride fairly conservative. I do like to get leaned over in the turns but I think these tires will be fine.
This is great, but I really don't care about wet weather grip. What I'd like to know is what tire out there has similar grip/mileage to these, but without the focus on wet weather?
I had the Road V's on my 2015 CBR1000RR which is for touring only ( non-interstate wherever possible ). I keep very detailed tire mileage records and, when I removed the V's, my projection was for a total of 15,000 miles. Pretty good but I thought it should have been slightly higher for such a light bike. But, that was still 2,000 miles more than for my Pirelli Angel GT II's and for the Dunlop Roadsmart IV's. I'll give the VI's a try for sure.
Yeah I love the Road5's had a set on my MT-07, switched from Diablo 2's and now on my MT-09 switched from AngelGT II's, compared to previous tyres that where on my bikes the Road5's where a huge improvement. Looking forward to the Road6 once I go through my Road5 set.
I bought the Road 6 for my Honda cb650r (21) swap from OEM Dunlop. Have done 250 miles urban riding & is much better than Dunlop handling & stickiness on wet greasy roads.
If you live in Australia, never track your bike and never exceed the speed limit then I can imagine you'd get 18k I'm close to needing a second set front and rear and they would be my third set of tyres on a Z1000sx that's done 16k total!
I was advised, by Michelin (at Scottish motorcycle show) to fit R5GT to my K1300R, after 800 miles it looked like pin pricks, (through to the carcass) at the bottom of the large Sipps. Michelin Technical services advise that it should use the standard R5 not the GT version, even though it is a heavy/powerful bike. Please check, preferably with Michelin Technical Services, that the GT is the correct/most appropriate tyre for your bike.
The road 5 tires is really great tire for most street riders. Unless you want mostly track day performance, the road 5 or the new 6 will give you all the grip you need on straights, corners, dry and wet. The milage is a big plus too!
But 15k miles seems to be story telling, like a fairy tale - 'once upon a time little red riding hood ...' - 5 to 7 k miles seem to be way more likely. And only on twisty roads (therefore preferred) 2k miles right, center, left each. 10 or 12 k miles straight on the center only on highways without any lean angle? No way!
@@JamesBrown-ux9ds It's not a story. Road 5 GT 2CT's on 2008 Concours. In central Florida heat from July 2021 to now. 19K and the rear cord is just making itself known. At 15K before it began to show significant wear. Sidewall sipes still there. Front tire looks almost new. Always kept my pressure at 42 psi. Unbelievable wet grip. It's not a story. Buy the 6's they will be at least a little better.
Currently rocking the Road 5 rear and a Metzeler RoadTec 01 on the front. I prefer the RoadTec, particularly in the rainy season, but the fantastic longevity of the Road 5s (and now 6s presumably) cannot be overlooked.
@@bhok1971 Idk what advertising campaign told you that, but you're wrong; many riders (particularly off-road riders) mismatch tires to increase performance.
@@bhok1971 rarely civil! So from pretty much all I can tell it's mostly a sales tactic.
@@wizardmoto yeah likely, though I still believe its best to change in pairs (for consistent wear and handling) it probably is a sales tactic as well. Btw, try the Conti Road Attack 3 when you get the chance. Better than 5's imo - if you're on-road of course
I have these tires on my bmw f900xr......these are absolutely the Michael Jordan's of street tires. I got almost 10,000 miles on my 5's ...could of went longer yet I like new rubber for every spring/summer season. 🙂
Was more happy with the road5 tyres. They changed the pattern by meking it deeper and longer. Also they defenetly changed the profile/ angle og the tyre. More of a touring tyre now. I reccomend power 5 to anybody wanting to do something else than just touring
I’m happy to see the Michelin 5GT came on my 2022 R1250 Rt rather than Metzlers. As for the 6gt those will undoubtedly be a replacement when the 5GTS have run their course.👍
What is your opinion about bridgestone T32 over this ones? Probably getting road 6 in next swap but would love to know if bridgestone are good as well!
If you could please show more angles of the side of the tires so we can see the whole tire rather than mostly the treads, I think that would be really helpful. I was interested to see the rotation arrows, but it was very difficult to see. Thanks for the review though.
Such a nice coincidence, I just bought this tire for my 2017 KTM 1290 SA-S, they’re not even installed yet. Michelin offers these for the adventure bikes by the way, perhaps not in the US just yet though…
I have run several tires and have a history with Michelin going all the way back to the Macadams (precursor to the Pilot Road and the Road). I have always run my tire pressure more towards grip and performance than mileage. The Road 3 were better rain tires than the Pilot Road 2 but had massive cupping issues. The 4 was slightly better and the new tread pattern on the 5 seas better again. However, they all still cupped. With eh Road 6 Micheline has finally separate the large rain channels from the small one and it has made a big difference. The 6 is not only better handling but I am seeing better mileage as well. In my ZX14 and Bandit 1250 I was lucky to see mileage over 10K (more like 8K kms on the ZX14). The new 6 is much better, I am predicting about 12-14K on my Bandit but as I am only half way through, things could change. The one thing that all michelins had was they were good right up to the end. I've had other tires that became very sloppy and slick near the end so the last 1000kms were sketchy at best. Great tire. My canyon bike (nicely set up VTR1000) has power 5s which will be replaced by Road 6 as well. I tried a couple of set of the Power 5 to see if they would be any better (stickier) and the Road 6 are just as capable n the road. Plus the Road 6 will last a lot longer.
Common guys, the road 5 is NOT for Trackday use! Even if your pushing it hard in the twisties in summer temps he starts to overheat. And the guy who did 15000miles with it is more then cruising. I dont even get this mileage with my old shovelhead chopper lol It’s a good tyre, no question. But yeah … let’s keep it real! I used a set as wintertyre on my faster bikes when conditions are cold and/or wet and he`s performing great! unfortunately i didnt looked exactly on mileage, but it was max 4000km and both where worn on the sides. in the middle there was plenty left. and they ride pretty shit when worn. gonna give the road6 a change next fall.

I never worry about grip
what bike did you put these on? I changed my 5's after 10,000 miles cause they were squared flat on the rear. by far the best street tire available.
Really, wow, I’m just about to get a new front tyre for my Harley. Michelin seems the way to go then.
Fun fact, Michelin predict the Road 10 will only be sold to manufacturers as it will last longer than the motorcycle they come with 😁
Where’d you see that? Pretty cool wonder when we will see it
Whoosh
I doubt that. Maybe they will make a tyre that can do that but it will never have maximum traction, part of having high traction is the high friction and rubber you leave behind that sticks to the road.
Honestly they can with present technology make a tyre that will outlast the life of a motorcycle however it will have the grip of a 1960's tyre which is nowhere good enough for high performance motorcycles of today's era.
If you want a long lasting tyre honestly some of the cheap Chinese tyres last the longest however the grip on any of those is sometines borderline and other times flat out dangerous.
Double-whoosh.
@@csn583 Fun fact: Common sense isnt very common.😂😭
Switched to Road 5s after getting caught in a downpour. Watched the Road 5 reviews and went for it. Much better grip, quicker response turning in, and they really hold their feel in the rain. When my 5s finally wear out, I guess I'll be moving to 6s. If they give me 10% more life, and better wet traction and feel, so much the better.
Compared to what? What were the previous tyres on your bike and what bike do you ride?
@@ful48j Bridgestone Battlax. That's as much as I remember of them as that I swapped them out after having the bike (R1200RT) for about a year. I'm not the original owner, so they may have served the previous owners riding style better. Rainy commutes and back road touring for me feel more planted on the 5s.
@Tyler Braden Was not aware of that. That would explain why my morning commutes in the high teens were "normal" to me.
I have had road 5s on my street triple r for two years, they have done 10k miles and probably not even half worn. They are absolutely brilliant tyres.
Took PR4s off my BMW R110S and installed Q3s. The grip and precision were incredible.
UK Subscriber here,
Had the PR4's on my 2003 VFR vtec, was new to biking so didn't know any better. Switched to PR5s a year later and TOTALLY transformed the bike. Absolutely amazing in the cold and wet. Got about 10-11k out of them
Today, having to put the 6's on, £350, ouch. £50 up on the 5s, so will have to see how they go.
I absolutely love the road 5s on my Versys 650, so much grip, in any weather.
Glad I found your comment, Im having 6s installed on my 2010 triple, hoping for good things
How do you like them on your v-strom? Ok for the occasional hardback dirt road?
I have mounted the Road 6 on my Honda Crosstourer for a month and after 1500km I can say that they are really fantastic. Excellent comfort, excellent grip both at high and low speeds. truly a tire to make kilometers in peace without taking away the sportiness, because I must say that they are also very sporty. Greetings from San Marino and Italy
I have the same bike. Only got 6300 miles of my Road 5 tires. I'm going for the road 6. Did you buy the GT version or standard?
@@thingblaze5754 hello, I have the standard version, then I think the GT version is for other sizes, there is no Honda Crosstourer
Just ordered a pair for a 4000 mile trip to Europe. Good video, thank you.
What would be interesting is if Michelin actually told you which bikes or weight is needed for you to move from the standard tire to the GT version.
Love my Road 5's on my Versys 1000 and MT-09. But these will be my next 2 sets.
I just bought the 6GT and hope they are as good as the 5GT that you're using. I'm on a 2021 FJR an hour north of Spokane
have the same on my 06 fjr. Best tire in the rain, even got some of my buddies on sport bikes and they love them especially on some of these south Louisiana un expected rain showers.
Tram line? Lmao ur dumb. Those are not meant to do that unless you had them improperly inflated. I'm guessing you had them overinflated.
@@theenzoferrari458 I'm an experienced rider racer mechanic, and I trail brake a lot.

@tombork2281 How are they working out for ya? I have a cross country myself and thinking about pulling the trigger on the mich 6's
Drove to Orlando yesterday on a concours 1400 in the rain and this tire truly shined. Going from dry to wet and never noticed any type of funny business. Also it stops amazingly.
I rode pilot road 2's for a decade and they are so good but can't get them now. Road 6's are going on my 1400 concours now.

Just put a set on my multistrada v4s, so far so good! Much better turn in and grip on the side of the tire than the stock Pirelli scorpions.
OMG i was just thinking about doing that for my V4S Multi Ive already blown through my first two sets, i stuck w/ the stock tires on the second go. But ive been doing a fare amount of off roading and camping w/ it. These tires here would prevent that. Ugh🤔
Got a real wet-weather phobia, and these tires sound like good medicine for my fear. Thanks!
This is THE tire. I have them since they are available. For wet dutch weather this is exactly what you need
The GT is for heavier motorcycles, but I cant find anywhere that they specify what they class as heavy.
You have to look at the load ratings of the tires on Michelin's website to find the difference
@@magicoddeffect I tried exactly this, but the load ratings are the same on the standard and GT. For instance, the 120/70ZR17 standard and GT are both rated at 58W
Pretty happy about this review. I just put them on my VFR800! 😊
Brilliant tyres. Got these on my VFR800 VTEC 03. Instant confidences on the twisties and in the wet👌
Just bought an FZ6 and it's rolling on Battlax BT23s, definitely going to check these out when I replace them!
Also, these look like cool cyberpunk tires which doesn't hurt
I can say that on my 2016 BMW S1000R I've run two sets of Road 5 tires on it and one set had 9000 miles with 3 track days. The second set had 4000 miles and one track day when I sold the bike and the tires still looked great.
Just fitted these road 6's on my BMW f900r and so far impressed as I'm in the UK and we get a fair bit of rain these tyre's grip very well in the wet... Excellent review by the way... 👋👊👊
Getting these for my BLW K1600GTL tomorrow, quite excited
Are you referring to the 01 or the 01 SE?
80kg its not “light” 😂
Good to know. Fitted these to an MT10 also.
When exactly should I be considering GT? Can't get a definition of a "heavier bike" currently ride a Ducati Multistrada which is a fair old lump for sure but which version should I be looking at?
It's one of life's mysteries...I guess if you identify as heavy, you ride the GT version.

Appreciate the review brother. I currently run Pirelli Angel GTII's on my fjr1300. I will seriouisly consider the Michelin's for my next set. At this point, the Pirelli's are performing very well in the rain and dry. keep up the great work, all the best from Oz.
I also had the Angel GTIIs on my GSR600, they're currently being replaced by the Road 6s, I can't wait to feel how they compare!
Cant wait to give these a go later this yr...
I've just put my first 100miles on the Z14 & they feel amazing! Can't wait to get back out tommorow 😉

6000 miles max front & rear on my R5s have had 3 sets. Now have R6s just waiting to go on. Best all round tyres especially wet weather of Scotland
The Road 5's on my Tracer are great! 5k on them and they still look brand new!
Got a great 7400 miles out of my road5 on my lighter weight sport bike. Road6 earned there time on the hoops now. I have been enjoying them.
Used, and loved, Pilot Road 5 on my Ducati 696 and now I will be using the Road 6 on my current Triumph Speed Twin.
I got Road 4s about a year ago. Love them.
The front tire is meant to be installed that way I was surprised as well first
In case of doubt, tires have these arrows that tell you the direction they need to be installed in.
Just slightly less responsive than the the Power RS (discontinued)
get the Michelin Power 5's. you will notice a resemblance to the Power RS
In the UK we love these for wet grip and I've used 3-4-5 in the past. I have set of 6 waiting to put on my KTM.
Have Power 5's on my Blackbird and they are unreal. My next tire is going to be a Road 6 though.
i did close to 29,000 KMs on roads/tarmac using the road 5s. got to just less than 1mm before i hit the safety pimple. Just got my Road 6s today. Hope they'd last just as long!

What I'd like to know is what tire out there has similar grip/mileage to these, but without the focus on wet weather?
exactly: I found Conti Road/Sport Attacks to be a good candidate, although it's very hard to determine mileage without long term controlled testing.
Michelin Power 5’s
Hey man I want to ask, is road 5 better thab angel gt?
I'm getting Road 6 fitted to my Breva 1100 tomorrow, can't wait to put some miles on it..
I bought the Road 6 for my Honda cb650r (21) swap from OEM Dunlop. Have done 250 miles urban riding & is much better than Dunlop handling & stickiness on wet greasy roads.
If you live in Australia, never track your bike and never exceed the speed limit then I can imagine you'd get 18k
I'm close to needing a second set front and rear and they would be my third set of tyres on a Z1000sx that's done 16k total!
Look no more! I put them on a couple of weeks ago and they are A M A Z I N G!!
Thanks for the feedback..
Sweet. I'll have to grab these next. Not a huge fan of my battle axes I have now.
Got the road 6 gt on my fz1n since last month. Very good tyre.
Currently rocking the Road 5 rear and a Metzeler RoadTec 01 on the front. I prefer the RoadTec, particularly in the rainy season, but the fantastic longevity of the Road 5s (and now 6s presumably) cannot be overlooked.
Whoa - tires work together as a pair, mate. Please fit the same tire front and rear for best handling and safety. 👍🏻
@@bhok1971 Idk what advertising campaign told you that, but you're wrong; many riders (particularly off-road riders) mismatch tires to increase performance.
@@wizardmoto didn't know that, thanks (how's that for an internet response)
@@bhok1971 rarely civil! In your defense I was curious and did a quick Google to make sure I wasn't leading you astray with anecdotal evidence, and it seems manufacturers recommend matching tires but "mechanics" (allegedly, it's the internet after all lmao) and forums do not.
Just copped mines the other day!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have these tires on my bmw f900xr......these are absolutely the Michael Jordan's of street tires. I got almost 10,000 miles on my 5's ...could of went longer yet I like new rubber for every spring/summer season. 🙂
I wonder if an R1200RT, 1 up with moderately loaded panniers is too heavy for these.
I dont even get this mileage with my old shovelhead chopper lol
It’s a good tyre, no question.
I got roughly a little over 15k on my road 5’s. I’ll be trying the 6’s soon.
I use the Michelin road 5, the best I get in mileage on the rear is a little bit over 5000 miles, the bike is a a Suzuki gsx s1000.
