  • Find yourself wanting more out of your rear suspension? This RockShox air can kit will transform the way certain bikes ride and provide you with the ability to tweak the shape of your air spring.
    Introduced alongside the Lyrik Ultimate fork and Charger 2.1 damper update, the MegNeg air can kit more than doubles today's already large negative volumes. This results in a noticeable and tunable boost of mid- and end-stroke support (and a lot more pumping). Join Vital MTB's Product Editor, Brandon Turman, to learn how it came to be, what the tuning process is like, the upsides, downsides, and an overview of what types of mountain bikes will gain the most from the MegNeg upgrade.
    MegNeg Air Can Highlights
    - Allows you to tune negative volume with Bottomless Rings
    - Provides 64-111% more negative volume than a standard air can
    - Compatible with RockShox Deluxe and Super Deluxe shocks
    - Available in 550, 650, and 750 kits to fit Metric shocks with a stroke between 47.5-75mm
    - Includes air can, Bottomless Ring volume spacers, seals, grease, oil and decals
    - 325psi max pressure rating
    - MSRP: $90 USD
    The MegNeg inches RockShox air shocks closer and closer to that coil feel while maintaining the ability to make quick pressure changes and adjust bottom-out support. It's fun to wrap your mind around and experiment with, seeing what works and what doesn't work for your bike and riding style specifically. There's a lot of tuning capability here, and this product will help people create more enjoyable rides.
    If you are constantly banging off the bottom of your bike's travel, have that sucker stacked full of volume spacers, run the lowest suggested sag value and still aren't getting the support you're after, you absolutely want to consider the MegNeg.
    You can tune compression stacks all you want, but addressing the spring curve is always more impactful. This is an excellent upgrade for a reasonable price and will make a big difference on bikes that could benefit from added mid- and end-stroke support. You've got to be willing to do some back-to-back testing though!

    Works wonders on my 2018 trek slash. Upgraded to a used 230x60 ultimate deluxe to achieve 160mm of rear travel and added the MegNeg. I’m 6,1 180lbs riding a size large Slash. Big wheel, small frame concept since I ride aggressively on technical trails. With the MegNeg I’m running zero tokens, two bands and 220 psi at 30% sag. It keeps up with my 170 Lyrik with Push coil conversion and their damper. HSC is nearly full open, I run about 5-10 clicks of LSC depending on how flat or steep the track is. LSC on the shock is typically fully open unless I’m running a track that has big G outs and berms. Having the mid stroke support with sensitivity really propels you forward rather than into your travel resulting in less speed

    thank you guys for amazing video. I ride Giant Reign 29 thx to this video i went for MegNeg last year on my Deluxe+ and yesterday 6/6/22 went for Super Deluxe Ultimate with the MegNeg. I know there is new gen out (2023) but i did charger 2.1 upgrade too - not possible to upgrade my fork to Charger 3.
    This shock tracks like a beast - 1st impression on the trail - "Is my rear end detached, too soft, loose or what is happening... while it tracks like a knife thru the butter" downhill feels so planted without too much skipping and wheel being in the air, uphill tracks great too.
    Overall - upgrade to top of the line (still like 10 days ago) front and rear makes your ride a "new bike" and lot safer too.

    Finally took the plunge and got a megneg. Took the recommendation of another RUclipsr and installed megneg with 1 rubber band. Noticeable improvement. My bike is heavy and the rockshox deluxe select I have has no lockout and is always fully open. So when I pedal, there's crazy bob and always feels like the rear is sagging when I'm pedaling up and over rocks. Now the shock has much more support while retaining that top stroke plush. But it still suffers from that sag just a little bit. Thinking about going zero bands now. I wonder if it'll be too harsh on the chunky stuff. Something to note: I added 60psi on top of my normal pressure to achieve 30% sag!

    Love my megneg on the 2019 giant trance. Feels bottomless and predictable after a little tuning. I’ve had it for about 7 months in Colorado now, tested on every type of riding including park.
    When tuning, I had to run the maximum spacers in both chambers. (Well, one band away from max spacers in negative chamber and Full max in positive.) The change in positive spacer was absolutely key, so I’d plan on experimenting with it if you want to ensure happiness using a megneg.
    Pedal Bob is more pronounced with a megneg, but that’s what the 3pos lsc lever/“lockout” is there for. Even then, I honestly climb open on most trails.
    Overall it’s seriously awesome. Midstroke is far more refined. And the bottom out resistance is amazing even at trestle. Traded bikes with my friend who rides a Bronson for a lap at trestle who described mine as vague. But I found his to be far too rough and choppy. So much feedback it was absurd. The megneg just mutes little stuff out at slow and high speeds. The ramp up is on the money. Close as I’d ever want to be to a coil. And on bigger hits, satisfying and predictable are the only way to describe it.
    If the megneg was any older, I’d be appalled that this isn’t standard issue for many frame makers bike’s out there today. There simply must be bikes out there which are better suited with a megneg to optimally tune in the suspension. So they aught to be leveraging it soon.
    Ftr, I’ve also a/b tested the dpx2 and super deluxe. With and without megneg. The dpx2 is just not up to speed with a superdeluxe. Love fox forks, but the super deluxe is king right now and worth making the most out of. Especially if you need to service it anyhow.

    Note for regressive to progress. frame kinematic riders: Nuke Mega 290, stock shock: 260 PSI (no tokens) for 30% SAG with 105 kgs bw. After Megneg: 325 PSI = 31-32% SAG, without tokens, 3 neg. bands. In future I attempt 1 pos. token, because its help me with about 25 PSI more pressure in pos. chamber. Over 250-260 "stock" PSI need more 25-27% pressure for same SAG!

    • @camwells9726
      @camwells9726 4 года назад

      damo mega275 interesting , I’m on a 290 nukproof mega , only had it since November , and am a bit confused whether the megneg is worthwhile for this bike , it feels so perfect when descending, but maybe a bit flat , lacking support when pedaling thru flat areas

    • @Gdownification
      @Gdownification 3 года назад

      I’ll agree with Cam Wells, same situation. My Mega 275 feels a bit wallow-y around sag, which is noticeable when pedaling around flatter terrain. Descents are great though. I’m curious to hear how you’re getting along with the Vorsprung upgrade, and what it added to the bike?
      Looking at the leverage curve and anti squat, it seems to me that a Megneg or a coil shock would help provide more mid stroke support and maybe a better pedaling platform. The data makes me think the bike is trying to push me towards sag since the initial rate is regressive and subsequently progressive, and that’s where the bike has the highest leverage and so is most likely to move. Maybe going down from the stock 32t chainring to a 30t would help as well?

    I want to limitate a little the bottom out and have more mid-stroke support but i don't want to have less feeling on the high of the shock.
    I thought to remove just one token on the positive and add 2 tokens on the negative of megneg for a first point of start.
    Do you think this first setup up may be correct for a starting point? Thanks man😉

      Mike P.
      I started with 2 bands/2spacers @ 265psi (non-megneg psi + 20%). It was very supportive but spikey in the last 3rd of travel.. ended up removing 1then both + spacers and increased psi to 270. Much smoother but using full travel a little too easily. I decided to start over and start at the “extremes” of bands with no spacers, actually measuring sag accurately (PITA on the Bronson). Once I get the beginning/mid stroke how I want I’ll add spacers if necessary to control bottom out. I’m currently on the first step with 4 bands/0 spacers @ 275psi (30% seated sag). First couple rides, it’s a little firm off the top, mid stroke is good, very smooth use of travel on big hits/drops but left - 10mm (18%) shock travel unused. Next step will be with no bands.. and we’ll see. I weigh -215 geared up btw.
