Hey man thanks for making this video. Your camera angles are super helpful and you did a great job making the trail features look "real" (less gopro effect). Do you mind commenting what you think about the megneg a year later?
Okay, so you said that running four bands and no positive tokens is similar to coil? I tend to have a issue with running out of travel on my 120mm DC/XC bike, so if I was able to get a little more bottom out assistance at the end of that while also having a similar coil feel, would that be basically running four bands with a single token? Very similar to coil but with a little more pre-bottom out ramp-up on this short travel bike? I'm pretty light at 160lbs with the Camelback and a few small accessories on the bike.
Yeah, running full negative no positive makes it the most linear. That does mean more pedal bob though so just be ready for more work climbing. Definitely worth a shot, I've seen them on sale a few times recently! Although I will say, working with 120mm of travel it might be good to try volume spacers first since they are cheap.
Great video! Ive been riding with the Megneg for about 6 months 2bands neg and 0 in pos. It really felt great compared to the stock shock. I am riding a canyon torque. I want to tried out a different settings with 4 bands and a 1 token in pos 30% sag, 210psi after seeing your video. Maybe settling on 4 bands and 0 token.
So I have mine on a megatower and I’m running 2 bands neg 1 positive token 230PSI (6ft 195lbs) Been running it for a year. It’s so good I don’t understand why they just don’t come with megneg as is. I feel like it is so overlooked as an upgrade That being said, adjusting the setting does suck if you do it multiple times
Thanks man, I settled on 0 positive, 4 negative at about 28% sag. I think this is solid for general trail riding, I haven't hit any very big features with this set up yet so I don't know how it'd perform in that situation.
That's a really good question, I haven't focused too much on it. I wish I would have paid attention to that before I switched. I'm definitely deeper in the sag so I'm sure that doesn't help either.
I just put on the megneg about a week ago on my deluxe select plus. Trek rail ebike. It still needs a little tuning I figure when it gets warmer I will do that. But in the meantime I’m running 1 token and 2 bands. Before the megneg shock was ok but did not realize I was blowing through the stroke. Ever since the megneg I can feel the shock staying higher in the stroke . When bombing down one of my favorite trails very sandy and few drops with roots I can keep much more speed with the bike in complete control. For the price I found it new for 78.00 on eBay you get a lot of performance, well worth the money. Also very easy to install .
@@VINLAND_777 I have the rail 5 and came with just normal shock. Bolt at top and bottom no thru shaft. I thought all rails has same mounting points. Weird that the 9.8 has thru shaft.
@@BH-cy9tb thank you so much for the quick answer. Yes it seems the Carbon versions use the Thru-Shaft on which the MegNeg is not compatible, too bad :) Thank you and ride on!
I've got my meg neg on order for the same shock. I find myself blowing through all the travel and without any compression adjust and a deal at £55 it does sound like I'll find mega improvement. Seems 3 bands might be where I will start based on this video. My 2022 9.7 is just deluxe select+ not thrushaft.
I have been riding with megneg for the third season now. My experience is that fewer bands provide more mid-stroke support and bottom-out resistance at the expense of small bump sensitivity. I ended up with 4.5 tokens - two red ones and one green, along with four bands.
@@MidWestMTB 200lbs, I am still experimenting with tokens and pressure; I recently changed to 3 tokens, now to 2. Too many tokens will force you to drastically reduce pressure, which leads to poor rebound response
I've the the meg neg on a nomad v4.. that thing is not " plug and play" . I ended up with 4 bands in the negative chamber and none in the positive. ( different frame design than yours) Biggest problem I see and nobody is talking about is, that the rebound went out of balance. Too fast high speed rebound, too slow low speed rebound. With the meg neg it feels much better for sure but to make it perfect the shock needs to be shim tuned. What do you think about that?

Just got a Super Deluxe and MegNeg for my TR. Can't wait to go try it out. Maybe we'll see you at Horns again some time this season. 😉👍
You definitely will! I want to come up to Michigan some time too. At the least stop by on the way to the UP
Great video Ryan! Helped me a lot on understanding the MegNeg better!
Thank you!

Perfect. Video came just in time before purchasing. Thanks! Where did you find the graph for the megneg using 4 bands?
I honestly can't find it now it was posted by J-Tech Suspension on some blog site but I don't see the link on their site anymore.
I just got a megneg and installed today. how are you running it one year later?

Thanks man! I bet that bike feels like a tank with sitting deeper in the sag. How much do you weigh if you don't mind me asking?
@@MidWestMTB A weigh about 84kg that is around 185lbs. Yep the bike takes on everything I throw at it ;)

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't even at least include an option for a bigger air chamber when you buy a shock.
Great video. What did you end up liking for spacers in + & - chamber?

With MegNeg being more supple, was there any impact on pedal bob? Do you find yourself locking the suspension more often while going uphill?
That's a really good question, I haven't focused too much on it. I wish I would have paid attention to that before I switched. I'm definitely deeper in the sag so I'm sure that doesn't help either.

Didn‘t your Rail come with a thru-shaft deluxe? My Rail 9.8 does and RS states the MegNeg does not fit?
Thanks mate!

Send it to get a lighter tune on it. I have a similar situation
Great video brother. Thanks for sharing
Thanks man! Appreciate you
Hi. I have the RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate RCT. Would it fit that?
It should but I'd double check!
put a shockwiz on it!!! we want to know if that can assess the difference with the MegNeg.
Good call! I'll ask around to see if I can borrow someones around here.
Didn't work for me as couldn't get the sack for the psi was to high
The sag?
