I have been following David for 25+ years now and have seen him 11 times live, including twice at his home for the Barn Bash. For me, he is the best vocalist in the world...it's not even close.

Yep. I'd say, "wish I could sound that good at age 52..." but then I'm like "I wish I could sound that good at any age." WOW. David is my favorite male vocalist, and I consider him the GOAT in that regard. For him to do Whitney, who I think is the GOAT overall... just incredible. There are no words.... only hiding under a blanket in awe. :)

He is one of my favorite in the Gaither Vocal Band. Its easy for him to do that because he is used to sing in acapella group. That is David Phelps not famous to most of what we call norm but if everyone knows him, he is like a world record guy.

I have been a fan of his about 20 years now. I can stop listening to this song. Also, if you haven’t heard him sing My Love, please do. I am glad to hear on the comments that Whitney said he was one of her favorite vocalists. She would be so proud of him doing her song.

There are a few male singers who have covered Whitney Houston songs and done them justice, Marcelito Pomoy and Dimash are good examples. But yes they are rare.
I don't think either of those men did it justice. Dimash's tone is not warm or smooth enough to cover Whitney's (it has to do with his approach - not voice itself). Same with Marcelito for the most part except he does sound pretty warm in his chest voice.
at 52 years old, he's still hitting D5 like nothing. He just did a D5 on GVB concert when he was singing let freedom ring.

I’ve been verbally attacked for saying he’s better than Pavarotti. Idc, I’m not apologizing. Pavarotti sings with skill & knowledge. David sings with skill, knowledge and passion because he feels what he sings.
It never happened, but the ultimate sing off that never was David Phelps and Avalon's Jody McBrayer. Look up Jody. A good example was Jody's song, You Were There. Jody had to go into early retirement bc of heart issues but both of these guys are just gifted by the Lord.

It's definitely more spectacular, but a little "over", David's is closer to Whitney's original.
